My gel manicure, however, was a different story. To start, she pushed my cuticles back and clipped them while dry, which was uncomfortable. She clipped the skin on my pinky finger to the point where it started dripping blood. I offered to hold pressure but she she apologized and that she's take care of it. She then sprayed it with quick dry spray and put glue on it, then moved on. After filing and painting the rest of my nails the blood had spread into the polish on the finger. She then had to remove it and repaint. As you can see in the picture I left with crusted blood that lasted about four days before fully coming off. At the end, she filed the excess gel from the skin around the nail. When doing this she had now filed my right thumb nail so short that it was very painful and raw at the nailbed. I told her it was very sensitive, she apologized and had me go wash my own hands in the bathroom with an exfoliating gel. I did not receive any lotion or hand massage. I paid $80 for this pedicure/gel manicure and regretfully gave her a 20% tip, feeling awkward and pressured as she watched what tip amount I chose after I swiped my credit card. Although she was nice during the service it did not deserve a 20% tip. I walked out of the salon with my friend and found that my thumbs nail bed was now slightly bleeding. Not much, but it shouldn't at all! My pinky and thumb were so painful! Not to mention risk for infection. I showed my friend that came with me. She agreed that I should call Bernadetta and talk to her about the situation. We thought because Bernadetta seemed nice that she would help rectify the situation somehow. She refused to give me any type of partial refund, but offered a free polish change, which I am not interested in. She also asked me to send pictures of the nails which you see here. I sent them to her on Instagram. The next day my friend went back for her own appt and Bernadetta apparently addressed this issue with her, and then sent me this DM in response. She sent this DM two days later while I was on vacation, (which she knew about). This whole situation made me very uncomfortable and frustrated, and I honestly felt harassed by the message she sent me. Basically a $96 nail nightmare.

She asked if I had an appointment and I responded yes but she then proceeded to ask me several more times. I strongly suspect that it was my off-day attire that included a hoodie, baseball cap and mask that guided her non-stop barrage of questions. Understandably, I was extremely underdressed but so what, we're at a nail salon, am I required to wear my Sunday best? I can't understand the oddness of both the employees and customers of this salon. After sitting down awaiting my appointment, the customer that was being attended to by the "question asking" employee stared at me intensely. I noted that before embarking on her uncomfortable stare down, she was whispering with the employee. Of course I don't know what was said but whatever it was most certainly prompted the stare down. When my nail technician did finally appear, I guess he had overheard what transpired but elected not to chime in, informing his over zealous colleague that I did indeed have an appointment and I wasn't just sitting there awaiting the right moment to rob the place. In retrospect, I feel that if he had simply spoke up, that uncomfortable situation could have been avoided. Once he started doing my nails, he launched into this extremely awkward dialogue about how his colleague didn't recognize me and thought I was someone who wandered in off the street without an appointment. He also mentioned my attire and how they aren't accustomed to seeing me dressed that way. REALLY!!! It took me a while to fully grasp what I believe took place. I think this nail salon to be a place where only a certain type of people are welcome and anyone deemed different is not welcome and as if the staff were not unwelcoming enough, even the impolite customers who sit and stare unceasingly are odd and impolite. This is an unfriendly and unwelcoming place and I am not okay with their behavior. Not once during my handful of appointments was I even greeted when I walked in the door. On top of all of the above, they really aren't that skillful in the business of nails.

They have a scalp analyzer that shows you your head up close (kind of gross in the most satisfying way if you're like me and have dandruff). I used to come a lot in high school but the price is absolutely outrageous I started with a pedicure and showed a picture of the neutral color I wanted, but she used pink instead. She never once asked if I liked the color while painting my nails, because if she had, I would have told her it wasn't what I asked for. The pedicure itself was fine, so I let it go. Then came the dip manicure, and unfortunately it was even worse. My nails were cut slanted, uneven, and different lengths. I showed her a picture twice of the simple French manicure I wanted--a neutral nude/beige-brown opaque base with a thin French tip. Instead, she used a completely different pink shade that was so sheer you could see my natural nail underneath. Usually they will do dip and then the gel over top to get you exactly what you're asking for... I genuinely wish she had just told me she couldn't do the design instead of continuing with something completely different from the picture I showed her. I even asked for chrome to try to cover the visible nail line, and you can STILL see it underneath--and then I was told the chrome would be another $15. I paid $165 and the quality was nowhere near what I would expect for that price. Between the uneven shape, sheer base, visible natural nails, and colors being completely different from what I requested, I am extremely disappointed. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.
