I was so happy when I came here the first few times but today was a disappointment. I had the gel light dropped on my toe twice! And then for the massage, she just rubbed water with the lotion and didn't apply pressure even though I asked three times and I normally don't ask for anything I particularl except for the pressure of the massage to be done a little on the harder side so I can feel an actual massage and not just lotion being put on my leg because I can do that myself but the water wasn't feeling good either. The last couple of times I went the service was not good at all. The last time the man with the Mohawk hurt me. Was so rough and didn't adjust when I told him to. The tech was very nice, but the price is very expensive for regular subpar service. $50 for a gel manicure is outrageous. A $20 up charge for gel polish is excessive. I spent $99 with a $10 tip for a regular polish french tip manicure which the white tip swirled into the rest of the nail, and there was polish all over the tips of my fingers. The tech also seemed very annoyed I wanted regular polish instead of gel. The pedicure was ok but I had to pay an extra $10 for nail polish on top of a $59 pedicure which was a basic pedicure. Once I was done under the dryer the tech put a bunch of nail oil all over my fingers, literally handed me my cup and sent me on my way while I was try to rub it in so I did not get oil all over my dress and everything else I touched. I have been coming to this nail place for a few years now and up until recently they had good service. On December 23rd I went to get a gel manicure and 2 days later all my nails were pealing and chipping even though it is suppose to last two weeks. So I went back on December 26th and asked if they could redo my nails. This time I wanted a different nail color because I figured the nail polish was just bad and that's why it chipped so easily. I have been to Star Nails several times over the last few years and every time I have left unsatisfied. I have had regular polish manicures, gel manicures, and dazzle dry manicures here. The regular polish was by far the best service I have received at the establishment. The gel manicures are always bubbling and peeling within a week of getting them done. I got a dazzle dry manicure at my most recent appointment and it looked like a child had done my nails. The polish had cracked before I even made it home, there was polish all over my cuticles despite the manicurists attempts to get it off, she smudged 3 of my nails and made barely any effort to fix it leaving drastic inconsistencies in the polishes appearance. I spent one year without doing anything to my nails to let them heal from years of gel, fills, extensions, etc. My nails finally had integrity and were healthy and long! I went to a different salon for the first couple months and was only doing gel nail service (no fills or dip). My nails maintained their integrity and were looking amazing until I went back to Star Nails. I went back twice. After the first time, two of my natural long nails broke after the second day. I asked for them to redo the service and they told me they would only take 20% off. I had to cut my nails down and file and shape them myself. I went back once more to see if it was an isolated situation. With short gel nails, two of my nails chipped within 36 hours and the polish didn't even reach the of side some of my nails, which isn't really clear in the picture. I used to love this place, as a I stated in my previous review I have been going here since 2018, but the quality of service AND the customer service has changed significantly. They have ruined my nails and I will have to, again, take a break from getting my nails done. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere and I will not be returning. I really did like this nail salon but my last experience will never have me coming again and I'll never recommend it to anyone now either. I feel really bad leaving a poor review because I think the nail techs are great I just don't like the customer service at the front of the house. The person managing appointments has extremely poor customer service putting all the blame on the customer and shows no understanding of a customer's situation. 3 people also walked in right before me and they were able to get pedicures. So if I literally just walked in before them I would have been fine and one of those people would have been in my situation. That just shows me he doesn't know how to manage appointments well. Don't blame it all on the customer when I even took some accountability. He wanted to play time games with me by saying I was more late than I was. That's why we're getting into specific times. My appointment was at 12:30 and I actually got into the lot at about 12:35 minutes. It was a rainy day so there was a lot of traffic and I had to park far from the entrance. I got in at about maybe 12:37/8. When I came in there was also a crowd of people and when I was finally seen they said I was 15 minutes late so I could only do one service (at this point it was 10 minutes not the full 15 either). I'm glad I was able to still get a manicure because I have a wedding to be in but i really needed the manicure and pedicure. If we want to play time games then I was within the 15 minute window still. I wanted to walk out so bad and not even complete a service there but I needed to get at least my nails done for a wedding. I understand it's the weekend and a busy establishment but they should not take on more than they can handle. The paint job on my nails was but up to my standards. I feel as though they could have gotten closer to my cuticles on some sides. This could be becuase I was so upset and my hands were shaken so I don't blame my nail tech. I still have her a good tip over 40% because I like to tip well in the service industry. When I voiced my displeasure with the man at the desk he said by the time I started doing my nails it was also 1pm but I also had to call other places to see if they could fit in a pedicure and they said they couldn't. I didn't even want to do any of the services at this point but I needed to because I'm going to be in a wedding. So I actually started probably at 12:50 not 1 because I was making calls. I'm only being a stickler about timing because he was. He said other people were here on time and I was late so there's nothing he can do about it. It's extremely upsetting when I was still in the 15 minute window and when I came in other people were crowding the front desk. I understand I was a little late so I take accountability for that but he also felt no empathy or understanding for the situation of the customer. I'm usually never like this but I also work in customer service so it's just highly upsetting. The whole point of making an appointment is for them to also reserve someone to be able to perform the service for me. I'm pretty sure other people were also late today because of how poor the weather was and they could have been the ones which made it more difficult for me to be seen then within my time window. As of today clients are getting a complimentary white tea hand cream. I can usually get a last minute appointment with an experienced technician even during the holiday season. Today, I tried out the dip manicure for the first time after hearing about it. I still didn't know much about it but the receptionist was very kind and went over the whole process. For years I've seen this same receptionist/manager (sorry I wish I remembered her name!) walking around making sure guests are happy and I really appreciate this aspect which brings in a sweet positive atmosphere. Went in at 4 on a Monday, which is a tough day in salon world as they are one of the only ones open in the area. The girl behind the desk seemed wildly frazzled, literally stomped her feet at the desk. They weren't able to take me until 5 which was fine, told subsequent customers the evening was booked only To take walk ins hours later. I ended up getting the girl who stomped her feet and I have never felt so rushed through something. My fill is the most half assed thing ever for much more money than my usual salon (got full set for 30, fills for 25 where this fill was 35). I commented to her how the nails look really bumpy and she said it would dry fine. It did not. I am going to have to apply a gel coat at home to remedy. Wildly disappointed and will not be back. My nails were COMPLETELY RUINED here on Feb 10th. The nail tech used a file to remove my gel nail polish despite me asking for them to be soaked. Additionally, I waited a half hour for an appointment that I had pre-scheduled. I asked to be compensated with a Spa Pedicure ($75) due to terrible service and them having ruined my nails. I feel this is a reasonable ask given that I paid $36 for the botched manicure that ruined my nails. I was told that I would only be compensated for the botched manicure that I received ($30). If I had had a manicure and my nails were poorly painted then $30 would make sense. To have paid for this horrible service and to have to deal with months of getting my nails back to health, 30 dollars does not cut it. I have been a loyal Star Nails customer for about 10 years. Beware! They filed my nails to paper thin. I have been there numerous times over the years and some mani/pedis are better than others. Overall, I liked them just fine until recently. I had on dip, and they dremeled the polish off (normal). Once the polish was off, the nail tech used a regular file to continue the same filing motion. I knew that wasn't right but didn't say anything. The nails looked really pretty and I tipped her nicely. After a couple of days, my nails began to split and bend because my once strong nails were now paper thin. When I returned home from a trip (where my nails all broke off, some well below the quick), I went to Star Nails to talk to them and show them how frail they made my nails. I was calm and nice. They told me that since I was past the 7 days, they could not help me even though he could see that my nails were damaged. He blamed it on the dip. I spent about $50 that day including tip. When I went in later to show them my nails, I asked for another manicure when my nails could handle one. I couldn't get a manicure then because my nails were too thin. Taking off the gel would have ruined the nail further. So I was waiting for them to grow out. I did not want to end my relationship with the business; I just wanted them to make it right. They were not in the least bit interested in fixing their horrible job or keeping a customer. I did finally get a regular manicure at another salon because I could not stand the peeling anymore. However, the polish won't even stay on the tips of the nails because they are so thin. This was not just one bad manicure. It will take weeks before all the damage grows and is replaced by healthy nails. The picture is my worst nail (thumb) and is after a 2nd manicure to try to make them look decent. It did not work as well as I had hoped. Where you don't see polish, there is barely any nail and it is split parallel to my thumb so I used nail glue on it. It hurts. I had this dazzle dry manicure done on Monday and this photo was taken the following day - on Tuesday. Very disappointing to say the least but the most disappointing was the way this was handled by Star Nails. I've been a customer since the very day they opened their doors, told everyone to go there-- and supported this business often. They refuse to give a credit for this $28 manicure. I called Dazzle Dry in AZ and confirmed that it is NOT my nails (as Star Nails claims) but is the technique used to apply the polish at their salon, or prep not being done correctly, or the top coat being too thick - but definitely nothing to do with my particular nails. Needless to say I will not be going back, but wanted to share this in case anyone else has had this experience and was told it was the fault of their particular nails. Today I went to Star Nails and Spa for a Mani/Pedi with my mom. We had heard from a friend who goes to the one in Middletown how fabulous it was, but as we live in Warwick we decided to give the new East Greenwich location a try. Boy am I glad we did. We walked in to a beautifully designed space, sparkling clean and smelling fresh. I have to say this was the first time in my life I've walked into a nail salon and have not been overwhelmed by the smell of chemicals. The music was low and relaxing and there was peace and quiet. We were immediately greeted by John and Cindy and brought over to the pedicure bowls. Perfectly cleaned and sanitized tools (and working in the beauty industry, I am trained to check for that). Cindy asked me for my color, took my bag and my jacket, and there were even small bottled waters waiting for us on the arm rests. I have lived all over the country and have NEVER had a Mani/Pedi like this. The leg/foot massage was unreal. I was so relaxed, I almost fell asleep! Cindy was fabulous. She paid attention to every little detail, a true artist in her craft. Worked every muscle group in the massage perfectly! Just when inthought it coukdnt get better, she gve me a shoulder/neck/back massage while my hands soaked in the paraffin wax! All of that wonderful service for only $45 before tip. (make sure you bring cash, as they don't accept charge tips) My mom agree with me about everything (and she is very picky, so awesome job, John!). So it seems we have definitely found our new place. I had an appointment booked in advance for myself and my daughter for her birthday. 4 hours before our appointment he called to let me know they could not honor our appointment. I expressed my disappointed and the manager said, "ok cool" and hung up on me. I'm not sure if there is new ownership here, but over this past year the services we've had were not as good as they use to be and their customer service today was extremely poor.
