This is my favourite salon in Montreal so far for a pedicure! I called and a got an appointment for my friend and I the same day. The ladies were really smiley and friendly. They had alot of nail polish colors to choose from including a vegan line. The pedicure was fantastic! The ladies give such a great foot massage at the end. They also have massage chairs and we were offered tea, coffee and water. Classic pedicure only cost $40. Really great experience, I will definitely be back :) read more

Your pedicure comes with a wonderful reflexology foot massage by a trained reflexologist. That's good value for your money, as most reflexology foot massages typically cost twice as much. You can also enjoy a cup of green tea while your toenails are being painted, too. Many reviews have already mentioned the vegan aspect - the owner is a devout vegan, with a bookshelf full of vegan cookbooks and other related reading material. All great so far, right? For your pedicure, absolutely. Where the experience disappoints, though, is if you come for a French tip manicure. It's a quick, free-hand swipe of white across your nail tips that leaves an uneven, shaky edge. I saw one bad review about the French tip manicure already posted, but that was a couple of years ago, and I thought that likely the owners had taken the bad review into account and improved the care they take with this particular technique. Alas, that is not the case, unfortunately! This is my second time at this nail salon - the first time I brought a friend for a pedicure and we were both *really* pleased. The pedicure lasted a long time, too. My advice, therefore: if you're just looking for a great pedicure, this is the spot! Really. I got the gel and each finger had a length as well each finger had a different shape and then the French tips where not straight. The only salon I go to. It's vegan, natural, and non-toxic and you can tell by a) the lack of toxic smell when you enter, and b) your nails are not destroyed after gel/fake nails etc... I love that they are not too chatty. I personally don't like having forced conversation the whole time. It's not dead silence either but it's relaxed. They also give you great hand and feet massages during your mani pedi, and you can sit on the massage chairs which are amazing. Cash only! Why take reservations, if you're not going to honor them? We were in Montreal for a bachelorette and I called a month in advance for a reservation for 8, which the lady said they could do in 2 waves, 4 people at a time. But when we arrived for our reservation, she said they only had 2 nail technicians (instead of 4) and they weren't available for another half hour. We took a walk and came back a half hour later, they had taken someone else ahead of us who walked in (??!) and it was another half hour wait. Only 2 of the 8 girls actually got a service done at all, and after waiting a full hour past our appointment time. The lady claims she tried to call me to say there were only 2 technicians available, but the story doesn't hold... I asked why she hadn't left a voicemail and she said there was none (I didn't have any missed calls and I definitely have voicemail). Even if that was the case, the fact she would tell us a time and then not actually reserve it (ahead of time or while we were right there in front of her), is just not a good way to do business. A bachelorette takes a lot of time and effort to plan, and they just don't seem to value appointments or their word. In terms of cleanliness, it was ok, but I've definitely seen better and nicer (including right down the street). Also it was like 85 degrees inside. read more

Hidden gem! When I switched to cruelty-free products I felt bad about going to salons for using harmful products. When I realized there was a VEGAN salon I was soo happy! Not only is it vegan but the owner makes sure to get the best quality for her customers and I am not joking. She values the quality of the products she buys. Just ask her what's so special and what's the difference between the products she buys and she'll let you know. I was skeptical in coming at first because there aren't many pictures and reviews and I haven't really seen any pictures with fake nails, which I always do. But they are actually just as nice as the other salons I went to! She always made sure I liked the shape and if ever there's any uneven nails that you spot don't be scared to let her know she is so patient and polite. I really liked having a conversation with her as well we talked a lot and the time passed by so fast. I also found it cheaper than the one i usually go to. For a pair or fake gel nails I payed 52$ instead of 70$! This will definitely be my go to place from now on read more

What better way to start off a vacation than to get an incredible mani pedi?? They had hundreds of colors for me to choose from, and I even saw glow in the dark! When I chose my colors, she directed me to an incredibly comfortable massage chair and began filling the tub for me to soak my feet. I chose a pastel pink and a glittery fuchsia nail polish. Without even asking she made sure to give me an extra coat of polish so that the colors came out incredibly vibrant. I'm so glad I was able to find this fantastic place that uses 100% vegan products! I considered not going to get my nails professionally done anymore because I recently read an article in the New York Times about toxic chemicals used in nail salons (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/11/nyregion/nail-salon-workers-in-nyc-face-hazardous-chemicals.html?_r=0) When I left, I definitely felt like something was different. I've been coming to Salon Vong for shellac manicure and pedicure every month for more than a year now. The personell is super friendly, and they'll go out of their way to get you an appointment. But most importantly, of course, they do a perfect job EVERY SINGLE TIME. I'm very picky about nail salons: I really think that if you're not doing your nails yourself, you should go to a place that does them super well, and that's definitely Salon Vong. From what we came across on Yelp, Salon Vong sounded like one of the top options to go to, and I'm still impressed with the experience we had. The owner and employees went above and beyond, they were super thorough, kind, and clean. It's how you wish every nail salon experience would be. Their products are vegan, eco-friendly, and non-toxic, so it smells pleasant in the salon (there even was a mom with her newborn while we were there). In addition, their products aren't tested on animals, which is another great add on. I highly recommend this place and wish they were around where I live. I left a review giving the truth about the level of racism I experienced as a black woman there but they deleted it both times that I posted it. They are very very overtly racist towards blacks. On entering the staff stared in disgust and disbelief at the fact that a black woman was not only affording the rent in the plateau but getting her nails done at their establishment. The lady had the audacity to ask me how I found the place as though it is not in the neighbourhood and when I asked her to clarify the suspicious comment she said that yesterday a black woman had called but did not book an appointment in the end hence she had assumed that because I am also black I am the woman' sister. She then went on to tell me that my skin is far to dark for me to get the white nail polish that I wanted and tried offering me a bunch of other colours I clearly was not interested in. I went to Salon Vong three weeks ago to get acrylics done (and my friend got a manicure). I didn't come in with an appointment and came close to the time of closing but, the owner still took me and my friend in until past closing! This was my best experience at a salon; the owner is very knowledgeable, gentle and friendly. The service is a amazing and I am happy to have found a place that uses non-toxic and vegan products as those are important things to me. Three weeks later and my acrylics are still in good shape, the nail polish has not budged and all I need is a touch up because of nail growth! Amazing! I was really excited to do my first mani-pedi ever at a vegan salon. The owner was kind and welcomed me to the business. The staff I was assigned to was very reserved but I overlooked that because I was there for the requested service. The first part was the pedicure. I got a nice massage and the nail polish was applied regularly. Then it came the manicure. The staff that was doing my nails gave me a rougher treatment. She had to stop at some point to receive payment from other customers. She DID NOT wash her hands after handling money and before going back to doing my nails. Before applying the nail polish, she had me pay. I guessed the reason behind it was to not ruin the work she was about to do. But after I paid, she rushed to apply the nail polish, finished off and left me there without further indication. She came back to applied a "cuticle treatment" liquid that she carelessly applied all over my toes and fingers and send me on my way. I asked what I was supposed to do with it and she said "nothing". Result: I left the place with some funny looking liquid that even after washing my hands would continue to smell. The nail polish was of such a bad quality that it started cracking half an hour after the manicure. Four days later, my nails were completely screwed. I am disappointed on the price-benefit ratio I got. I will not be going back to this salon. read more
