Glad I ate at home so I could avoid the temptation, I sat down and ordered a dbl mac. "A what...??" Yeah... so they don't really tick the passion box, but serving Toby's Estate helps them out a lot. So what did I get? Well naturally it was over espressed. They only used one shot espressed twice... and there was a bit too much milk foam, but they got brownie points for not adding too much milk. All up, if you are running for the train and need a coffee, these guys won't do you wrong. The English was reasonably priced but pretty basic and unfortunately did not feature the obligatory black pudding. Crepe was tasty and light. Located on the walkway to the station, the cafe has some indoor and outdoor seating, or if it's particularly nice you can sit on the grassy space. Recommend trying a crepe. Keep the coffee regular size to increase your chances of a reasonable strength brew.

The menu is packed with super fresh and delicious modern Australian cuisine. I love that they have a good selection of gluten free dishes including some interesting combo salads. The breaky winner is the omelette with ocean trout, spinach and chives topped with creme fraiche. I take anyone there - it's great for business (Ray Martin talking shop over beetroot juice), mum's and bubs (high chairs available) or my seafood savvy parents. The crew working the coffee machine, cooker and table service are all stellar - chatty, efficient and pretty... pretty like the recycled floral tea cups hanging as lamp shades from the ceiling. There is not a lot of room indoors but because the colouring is light and the windows are large it feels roomy enough. I like the idea of displaying local photographers works but it would be good to change it up occasionally. Outside on a sunny day the courtyard in the back is lovely. They have built a deck around a huge leafy tree and the sunshine reaches the area most of the day. Coffee lovers - the best reason to go to Sotto is for the coffee. Smooth, perfect temperature (hot but not burnt) and so god dam tasty. Non-coffee drinkers - a good selection of loose leaf teas and freshly squeezed juices (go the Beetroot like Ray - I did and it was tasty). The problem with cafe ratings is that once you've tried a so-so coffee, it's hard to go back just to see if your first experience was just a bad day for the barista, or whether it was his/her "standard" cup. That's the case here. I've had better coffees before and something about the flat white's taste was not quite right. The Vittoria coffee had a bit of a strange side taste to it. The location however is really nice, being nestled next to a busy North Sydney intersection. Vima offers indoors seeting and a selection of food too, which I haven't further inspected or tried.
