    Nachos, salsa & guac £2!

This is the bar of my dreams! It's actually also part wine shop which makes it all the better - you can buy any bottle you try in the bar to take home. We walked in for pre-dinner drinks and were warmly greeted. The guy working showed up how the wine dispensing machines work - you buy a card at the bar and then sample wines to your hearts content. I love a 50ml glass of wine so I get to try a few new ones and this place didn't disappoint. The prices are incredibly reasonable and between two of us, we had 2 x 175ml glasses and 1 x 50ml glass for about £14. Staff were really friendly, they have an interesting wine list as well as plenty of nibbles. Veggie & vegan options are marked (for food AND wine) and the place has an awesome vibe. So far, this is my favourite discovery in Manchester.

This place converted me to this stuff!

Do not be put off by the scaffolding outside, Salut is a fantastic, fairly priced wine bar. The current image of the outside of bar is unfortunate and I'm sure it will deter some people from going in but don't let that be you! Inside it is modern and the idea of tasting several different wines via a card powered dispenser is unique. The prices are very reasonable, about £15-20 for a basic bottle of wine. I don't usually drink wine but I have been to Salut now twice this week! I think it has converted me! This place is 100% worth a visit!

I have only been hear once and it was just to pop in for a post-meal quick drink. A lot of my friends have been here and they have all given them high scores. Its hard to judge after being here just a short time but its a really nice place. It has one of those "wine vending machines" with a selection of around 20 or so wines. The benefit of this is that you can try a little bit of different wines if, like me, you don't really know your wines. I basically picked a random white wine - not a fan of red wine - and it tasted good. The service was friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere, although maybe it a bit quiet but it was a weekday (Tuesday??) night. Recommended in particular if you are a wine fan.

It really is no wonder that Salut has managed the big 5 among Yelpers. I visited recently on a Saturday afternoon and could have stayed for the rest of the weekend. Nay, the rest of the week! It was fairly empty on arrival so we could have a good nose around and have the process explained by the friendly staff. Once we had our cards topped up, we were on our way. The system is very simple but, if you don't get it straight away, don't worry! Staff are always on hand - just remember to take your card out when your wine has poured! There is a good selection available and it's the perfect opportunity to try something a little bit different! As a non-red drinker by habit, it gave me the opportunity to have a small glass of something and push my wine drinking boundaries. Other tables were ordering nibbles, which looked delicious, so we ended up ordering some salted popcorn and crisps. Pretty standard but at £1 a portion I was happy with it! I'm already planning my next trip and have ensured my card has a safe space in my purse.

Its a chic, chilled place with loads of wine. Yes I'm going to love it. There are some wine you can get by the glass but if you get a card (£10 min spend and you don't have to spend it all at once) you can play on the wine juke box. They are always changing the wines over and there is some sherry or port in there from time to time. The food is good to and £1 for a big bowl of olives or nuts is really good. You can also ask for water as would hope from a nice wine bar. Classy loos too.

If you know your wines then this is the place to be in manc. I know what I like but not a an expert. However this place isn't pretentious or intimidating. You get a 'credit card' and chose the wine to preference and wallet. It's served like an optic. The atmosphere is lovely and it's something different for Manchester.

Writing this review is a little bit of an odd one for me because even though I've been here several times, I don't actually like wine very much. I'm 27 is that bad? I've been here with my other half with or without our friends on several occasions. There's plenty of variety within the wines and all that I tasted were about as nice as I've had. Being of the "meh" persuasion when it comes to wine, I tend to start with small glasses and work my way up the glass size and along the cabinet as I get more drunk. This can be very dangerous for 2 reasons. 1. You pay with a top up card which can mean, as some of the wines can be a little expensive, you can either run out of credit very quickly and or spend way too much topping it up. The second reason is that wine gives me apocalyptic hangovers and I think that together with the fact I'm not the best with wine is why I'm giving it a 4. There is nothing wrong with Salut, those in a similar position to me looking to try to find a wine they like would possibly be best going here as I'll probably continue to do from time to time. Maybe one day, as I grow up, I'll end up loving this place and changing my review to a 5. Maybe...

Good selection of wine... I am aware that I have been here for five house.

I do like wine, and it always has to be red, preferably a fruity one, but that's as far as it goes for me.. Names of wines? Nope. Flavours of wines? Nada. So I asked the bartender for a middle of the road, fruity, red. He recommended the Le Selezioni Cutaja, Nero d'Avola (confused face) and he looked like he knew his stuff, so with total faith in him that's what I went for. It was lovely. The bar itself is small but looks cosy. It wasn't particularly busy for a Tuesday evening but there was still a very pleasant atmosphere as I met some other Yelpers for pre-dinner drinks. As time goes on I can imagine this is the type of place I would like to sit for a few hours, order a meat and cheese board and try some different wines. This may have to involve building up my tolerance a little though, as usually 2 large glasses of red and I'm sloshed.

Will definitely be back here for drinks, it's a great stop off before, for example, Red's or Splendid Kitchen.

A group of esteemed Mancunians gathered in the Bier Haus, which is a delightful addition to one of Spinningfields latest hotspots, The Long Bar (owned by, you guessed it, Living Ventures). After a quick introduction to the charming prince, we were taken through a tale of the dizzying history of his family and their ties to the production of Kaltenberg, which is now brewed under licence and distributed by the award-winning Lancashire brewer, Thwaites. As Prince Luitpold explained, the company much prefers to set up local production of their fine ales to ensure the quality and freshness of the brews. Operations are expanding to Ukraine and Asia next year. We progressed through a wide variety of brews, each one getting a little bit darker and a little bit stronger. Before each tasting, the Prince imparted his considerable knowledge of the brewing process and flavour profile of the lagers and beers, including their impressive ABV%. In true Bavarian style, guests feasted on magnificent frankfurters the size of cricket bats in a bun (exaggeration but you get the point). After the tasting, the charming Prince fielded relevant questions about the brand, as well as the odd reference to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (don't ask). It was a truly unique experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon in the cozy Bier Haus. We have a new found respect for Kaltenberg and The Long Bar.

Music was good too and overall this was a much more chilled option than nearby Alchemist, which was rammed. Granted the selection of cocktails is severely limited, but really if you have a mojito on the menu that's essentially satisfactory, isn't it.

There wasn't a great selection on tap, certainly no names that I recognised, and the barman didn't seem too enthused about what was on, but I got to try a new Czech lager that I was quite pleased with. And there was a good selection of bottled goodies behind the bar as well. The room is rather small, but the atmosphere of the place is just great: exciting yet understated, the kind of place I could imagine both hipsters and die hard football fans could rub shoulders and neither would snigger at the other. That's my kind of place. The jukebox is wonderful. During our brief visit we were serenaded by a mixture of Happy Mondays, Stone Roses (we are in Manchester after all) and some other classic delights. In fact, one of the quotes on the walls (see photo) claiming to be from Ian Brown himself, is that it "always was, still is, the best jukebox in Manchester." High praise indeed. However, she writes that the bar has managed to keep a low profile and that if you get there early, its all yours. In recent months its popularity has absolutely boomed if that used to be the case, and on Friday and Saturday nights, you've often got little chance of getting in, let alone sitting down, or accessing the Juke Box. The Juke Box is an absolute joke, no doubt, as it claims, it's the best in Manchester. The place is in a cool wine cellar which gives in a unique feel and it has a lizard attached to the bar (great idea). There isn't a focus on wine despite being a wine bar and the clientele are indeed much better than your average Deansgate set. Its genuinely one of the coolest bars around and I think its one everyone should try, so I do advise going, just make it a week night...

To me, it had the look and feel of a contemporary eatery in Spain. We were seated close to the specials board, so decided to order a couple of those dishes as well as what seemed like the majority of the standard menu (they recommend three per person and that proved to be spot on for us). Whereas pretty much all of the 18 small plates we ordered were absolutely delicious (we duplicated a couple of options) - the octopus salad, padron peppers, aubergine crisps, pork cheeks and ham croquettes were my highlights - some weren't that spectacular. The beef meatballs, Spanish omelette and lobster & prawn croquettes were a tad underwhelming unfortunately. The bottle of red we shared (Torre Solar at £18) was very nice indeed. You can order many of their varied wine selection by the glass. They'd be a solid five stars but for a small number of things - a lack of balsamic vinegar served with the bread, mainly disappointing desserts (I enjoyed my upside down cheesecake made with actual cheese, but others thought it was dreadful). Also the churros weren't doughy-delicious but brittle. Service was warm and friendly throughout but on a couple of occasions the server could have been a bit more sharp-eyed, especially when we were sat clearly waiting to pay.
