A friend of mine told me she rents a table for the flea market and has been asking me to stop by. For a $25.00 fee, they peddle their wares -- forty to fifty tables full of new and used unique goods, lit by a stunningly beautiful chandelier adorned by four smaller satellite illuminators. The second floor room is beautiful! Classic Italian stately design, form meets function, with thick framed paintings of our pioneering people past, adorning the marble walls with golden sconce highlights. Handbags, leathers, costume jewelry clothing and household items may appeal more to the female persuasion, guys, y'all gotta go check it out anyway -- with your ladies, your buddies or alone, if your single and in the market, you might meet a nice Italian girl. Speaking of which, I met one of the finest woman at the great of the room fronting the Christopher Columbus painting. Marie is the Italian Charities publicist and with her Ad Hoc team, coordinate and promote monthly events from dances to dinners, unfortunately the Easter Italian Dinner was sold out because I had a fist full of greenbacks in hand ready to plunk it down for tickets to attend. It's quite common for Italian people to talk about where their family is from back in the old country. She and her family are Barese, my family being Genoa -- we kick butt in ship building and stuffed ravioli. The building has crystal chandeliers, Italian tchotchkes in glass cases, some articles and other bits of history. There's an elevator to the upstairs banquet hall if you can't use the small staircase, and this was where the flea market was. It mainly seemed to be people selling things they no longer wanted, costume jewelry, books, glassware, clothes - one lady did manage to find a stunning fur coat. They apparently hold Saturday night dances, I saw a flyer for one advertising Latin & Italian oldies, classics, and Top 40 from 8pm-12am with food, coffee, tea, dessert, and alcohol. I would love to see the crowd that comes out for that! This is a community center, so you can rent space or give money to various fundraisers they hold, all in all it's a great local resource.

From the very start, Kristie was so kind, caring, and devoted to making sure their dogs find the perfect forever homes. You can tell how much love they pour into every one of these sweet pups. Amanda and Danielle, that both fostered her were so caring and helpful with all my extra questions too! Gracie Mae has already stolen our hearts -- she gives the best kisses, loves belly rubs, and always wants to be right in the middle of the family action. HEAR was aware of this via my detailed application and references. I reached out to HEAR via PetFinder very interested in a pup, Relish, who appeared to be a good match with my family. I entered the adoption process, got all of my references confirmed, completed a virtual home visit, set a meet time, and was sent additional pics and videos of Relish after the visit--all validating Relish as a potential match. It was a very hopeful and exciting moment. However, in the same text I was informed I was approved for adoption from HEAR, I was also informed Relish was just adopted, within 18 hours of my confirmed meetup. Prior to this, I was not informed I was competing for the match. Had I advance notice, I might've made other arrangements, but I wasn't offered the opportunity or the warning. I've volunteered for and dealt with more than a dozen rescue agencies in my region as an advocate and supporter, as well as several others throughout my childhood. None of the agencies I've worked with have been less transparent than HEAR. No one wants to be in the position of visualizing a potential family member in their lives, and planning for that hopeful first meeting, only to have them cancelled from the equation less than 18 hours before the meet--removed with no notice of other variables.Instead, they sent pics of other dogs. I've requested my adoption application with HEAR be closed, as I would never recommend anyone who wishes to ethically enter a relationship with a rescue rely on HEAR for the availability of the hopeful companion, or transparency in general. Reply to HEAR's response to this post: HEAR says there were delays. HEAR says I'd rather garden?? These are absolute falsehoods. The timeline below is clear. All communications and appointments were honored. May 11, Kristie confirmed my May 10 application and requested documentation of my landlord's permission to have a second dog. May 12, I submitted that documentation. May 14, Kristie apologizes for *her* delay, and informs me she'll be reaching out to my three references. All references responded the same day, after I let them know to check their "unknown numbers" folder. Friday, May 15, at 7:28pm, a virtual home visit is requested by Kristie. I was already on my farmstead for the weekend--I detailed the farmstead in my application. I let Kristie know I was upstate, and offered to FaceTime from there or when I got back home. She said she'd wait. I proposed a meet time, but Kristie said it could happen whenever, to just text her when I'm home, that she'd be "around." I texted Monday, May 18 to make arrangements. We set it for the next day, May 19. The virtual visit happened with her partner, Sam, because Kristie was unavailable when I texted. During that meeting, an appointment was made to specifically meet Relish on May 23 at the HEAR event. Prior to the arranged meet date, I inquired of its flexibility because planting became a factor--planting is absolutely critical and 100% dependent on weather and climate. Sam responded that probably wouldn't work. So, I CONFIRMED the original meet time. I very clearly confirmed my motivation and intent to meet and spend time with this specific sweet boy, Relish. Still, he was adopted out from under me. NOT ONCE was I informed there were other applicants for him. Not once were any other factors or obstacles to adopting Relish mentioned. And not once did I miss any appointments or communications. I've dealt with much more honest and ethical agencies. It's HEAR's opaque practices that might hurt their ability to adopt, not this honest review. Post-Script: Sam even mentioned she didn't want to leave Relish alone at night with her dogs, because "god forbid something happen." Apparently, that was a legitimate risk as per Reddit. It's absolutely shocking that injury to fosters is still a risk they take.

I spoke with Oscar the week before to confirm I could drop off this Wednesday 9am-1pm. I arrive at the building (930) and ask the doorman (Juan) if the bottomless closet was in this building. He said yes but that no one was there. I explained that I confirmed the day and time. I put the bags down to call and see if I can get someone on the line. He immediately said NO YOU CANNOT WAIT HERE and grabs his radio as if he was going to call someone else for backup?? Extremely rude and hostile. I live in a doorman building in midtown and have never seen them act like this when receiving guests. I understand the need to keep the space open with covid but it took me less than 5 minutes to contact Oscar. I walked all the way from 10th for this reception. Never again. I'll be looking for other places to donate clothing and will make sure to pass along the message.

They are a woman led organization that offers help in interviewing skills, allows women to get free business clothing for interviews and helps them learn how to function in a professional workplace. The goal is for the women to become self-sufficient, an aim I can certainly get behind. One of the things Bottomless Closet does is take clothing donations for women from the general public. I recently stopped by here to donate business clothing that was too big on me. There are a number of things I like about this organization: 1. They have their public records available online so you can review where any financial donation you give goes to. I did not see corporate greed when I investigated. 2. They are a local charity helping local women. I firmly believe charity begins at home & for those who feel likewise, this seems a good place to take respectable business clothing that no longer fits. 3. The staff I dealt with were polite, friendly and informative, particularly the woman I spoke to on the phone before dropping off my clothes. I did not get the attitude that my clothing donation meant nothing to them & they just wanted to get money. They have a high demand for plus sizes but the woman I spoke to said my size 5-7 items would be appreciated. 4. They have evening hours on Tuesday evenings so if you do not have time to do their regular clothing drop off (Monday-Thursday from 9-5 p.m.), you can call and arrange a drop off then. Now, it IS a little tricky to get here but all you have to do is go into the Hotel Pennsylvania and take the elevator to their suite (a lower level from the main floor). They have tax forms right at the front desk and they will let you leave the clothing right there. Another important detail: you can NOT get clothing here unless you are one of their clients. This means whatever you donate will actually go to a woman in NYC who needs it. They also DO NOT take men's clothing. This is STRICTLY women's business clothing. I may end up donating more items here if I can't get alterations on some things that I've never or rarely been able to wear.

I did not have any issues with my stuff getting a musty smell even though all my furniture and boxes were in storage for over 3 years. I did NOT have a climate controlled unit; however, my leather couches survived. I was able to rent various units of different sizes in this location without a problem. All on the first floor. All my stuff stayed clean and was not water damaged. Nothing was stolen. No bugs or musty smell. This facility is well maintained. My storage unit was on the first floor. There was no issue with flooding even during heavy rain. The prices were only raised once a year by a few dollars. No surprises with cost. Overall, I was happy with this location and its excellent staff.
