    California Cheese Steak
    Mike F.

Honestly not too shab. I was kinda scared because a few co-workers told me the cheesesteaks here were sub-par, but I found them to be quite the opposite. In fact, this was a rare sandwich shop where I found the cheesesteak better than the Italian sub (which was no slouch). I've driven by this place a million times but never stopped in partly because the parking lot is tiny and awkwardly shaped. You have to park at an angle and have little room to maneuver. Also, it's right on the corner of a pretty busy intersection, so just getting in and out can be an adventure. About a month or two ago, my original lunch order fell through at another sandwich shop across town. D & J ended up being my Plan B, but I was pretty pleased in the end, and now moving forward D & J can be my Plan A. Now about that cheesesteak - tender, juicy meat piled high on your choice of either a hard or soft roll. I ended up messing up my roll combinations and asked for the cheeseteak to come on the soft roll and Italian to come on the hard roll. Should have had those swapped. But in the end it didn't even matter because I'm pretty sure they gave me the same kind of roll for both sandwiches. So, uh, why even ask? Oh well. It was a good roll, nonetheless. Not too hard, not too soft. The Italian Salad was ho-hum. Liked the black olives as a topping, as you don't see that much. The meat was in small cubes rather than rolled slices. It was also much firmer, like it had been smoked. Def unique. Lacking in onions and tomato, though. And the lettuce wasn't the freshest. A lot of it was starting to brown. There's a simplistic nostalgia that I find myself unable to resist when it comes to hot dogs. If they're on the menu, I'm ordering at minimum two. Even in this day and age of shrinkflation, hot dogs still go for just a buck or two, and while they're basically just salty, fatty meat gloop, this staple of Americana can be customized to your region's tastes to add new depths of flavor (if you can call it that). D & J offers two classic variations - the Coney and the Chicago. The Coney is smothered rather unambiguously with meat sauce while a Chicago dog is a bit more exotic, featuring slices of tomato, pickle spears, and celery salt. Having both at the same time was a marriage of cultures bound by gluttonous indulgence. If only I could have D & J delivered to me every day so I could avoid their parking lot, life would be bliss.

Good cheesesteak and cold subs. Quick to take my order and make my food. Not fond of the parking when it's busy but that's minor.

Did not like the service - and especially the attitude - sandwiches aren't even close to Screpsi or Mama's - no plans to return!

Burrata Fritta is a generous sized and tasty fried cheese appetizer but, it only came with two small pieces of crustini so you'll end up eating most of it with a fork. Seared scallops tasted excellent as well but there was only 3 and they were the size of a 50 cent coin and about 3/8 of an inch thick. They were served over a generous bed of seasoned peas but, you are buying the scallops not the peas. Like I mentioned before, food tasted excellent there just could have been a little more thought out into appetizer creation. Entrees we selected were a just satisfying portion size and tasted excellent as well. We usually like to take home some of our main entrees for a later small meal but we ended up eating them both in restaurant. One thing important to note of importance to local diners is that entrees do not come with sides or salads. They must be ordered separately. Portions could have been maybe 8% to 10% bigger. I am not complaining but rather suggesting. I will definitely go back again to try some of the other entrees offered.

Fun restaurant and bar in the Reading, PA area!…read more My friends and I were traveling through Pennsylvania and we wanted dinner, a place to watch a football game, and good food/beer. We found Brewer's on Yelp and and were very happy with our visit. Brewer's had a local feel to do it and a lively atmosphere for a Thursday night. The food menu has a large selection of different types of food so almost anyone can find something to eat. Great selection of beer with a lot of regional offerings. Also seem to run a special for different types of alcohol for most nights of the week ($6 large draft IPA beer on Thursday night). I ordered the brisket meatloaf sandwich that came with BBQ sauce and gouda cheese on top. The sandwich was very tasty and I especially enjoyed the pretzel roll it was served on. I liked that I was able to substitute a side of perogies instead of chips. The moon ranch grilled chicken sandwich was a little underwhelming and the moon sauce was the only positive to that sandwich. The service was good and our server checked back in with us multiple times during our visit. There's also a beer outlet with a large selection of craft beer attached to the restaurant so you can take local craft beer home with you. They call themselves a small place with the BIG selection!

Our waitress, who chose to wear air pods, was crass and impolite. She was sarcastic in a negative way towards one of the members in my party about their drink choice. She also stunk of heavy cigarette smoke and was coughing all over the place. The food was nothing special - just standard bar food. However, the prices here are outrageous! Unfortunately, it's just not worth going here when I can go elsewhere and get a real meal, not just bar food. I'm actually sad that I have to leave a negative review. In the men's bathroom, the sink has next to no water pressure and they were out of soap. I wonder how the employees wash their hands... On a positive note, the food was served fresh and hot!
