Stopped in for lunch the other day and ordered the chicken fingers and french fries. Everything came out burning hot and the service was very friendly. The food was typical to what I would expect at a pizza shop. The fries are crinkle cut, which are always tasty! Inside, the establishment was clean and well kept (it was early in the day). I have also ordered hoagies from here recently. They were tasty but came heavy on the oil. read more

Love this place! It is our go to for pizza night or power outage. We were there at least twice a month for a while. Pizza is good. Staff is police. Dining room was cleaned promptly with lots of seating while waiting for your takeout. One of our favorite trips was after graduation my son wanted to go there for dinner. Salvatore's has delicious pizza! I ordered a large pizza with sausage and pepperoni. There was a very generous amount of toppings. I also had the veal parmesan dinner. It came with warm Italian sliced bread and a nice size salad with a very good amount of toppings. And their prices are excellent. Im definitely going back again! read more

a friend recommended this place and said they had great cheesesteaks and other food. I got a cheesesteak that was perhaps the worst I've ever had. The roll was soft and soggy with no flavor. The meat was wet and bland. We also got some chicken wings, which were supposed to be "mild". They were absolutely soaked in a very spicy sauce and completely overly-breaded so that you could hardly taste the chicken. We won't go back there. read more

Honestly not too shab. I was kinda scared because a few co-workers told me the cheesesteaks here were sub-par, but I found them to be quite the opposite. In fact, this was a rare sandwich shop where I found the cheesesteak better than the Italian sub (which was no slouch). I've driven by this place a million times but never stopped in partly because the parking lot is tiny and awkwardly shaped. You have to park at an angle and have little room to maneuver. Also, it's right on the corner of a pretty busy intersection, so just getting in and out can be an adventure. About a month or two ago, my original lunch order fell through at another sandwich shop across town. D & J ended up being my Plan B, but I was pretty pleased in the end, and now moving forward D & J can be my Plan A. Now about that cheesesteak - tender, juicy meat piled high on your choice of either a hard or soft roll. I ended up messing up my roll combinations and asked for the cheeseteak to come on the soft roll and Italian to come on the hard roll. Should have had those swapped. But in the end it didn't even matter because I'm pretty sure they gave me the same kind of roll for both sandwiches. So, uh, why even ask? Oh well. It was a good roll, nonetheless. Not too hard, not too soft. The Italian Salad was ho-hum. Liked the black olives as a topping, as you don't see that much. The meat was in small cubes rather than rolled slices. It was also much firmer, like it had been smoked. Def unique. Lacking in onions and tomato, though. And the lettuce wasn't the freshest. A lot of it was starting to brown. There's a simplistic nostalgia that I find myself unable to resist when it comes to hot dogs. If they're on the menu, I'm ordering at minimum two. Even in this day and age of shrinkflation, hot dogs still go for just a buck or two, and while they're basically just salty, fatty meat gloop, this staple of Americana can be customized to your region's tastes to add new depths of flavor (if you can call it that). D & J offers two classic variations - the Coney and the Chicago. The Coney is smothered rather unambiguously with meat sauce while a Chicago dog is a bit more exotic, featuring slices of tomato, pickle spears, and celery salt. Having both at the same time was a marriage of cultures bound by gluttonous indulgence. If only I could have D & J delivered to me every day so I could avoid their parking lot, life would be bliss. read more

I've just started going to Salvatore's recently for pizza and I now prefer their pizza to other places near me. I tried an Italian sandwich last evening for the first time and it was the best Italian sandwich I ever had! I also tried a Coney Island Hotdog there recently as an afternoon snack (trying to hide my afternoon snacks from my wife!) and it was delicious. As you can tell, I love food and the food at Salvatore's is really good. Looks like I'm gonna be a regular at Salvatore's. read more

i had a really really really bad experience at D&J years ago(not their fault, but definitely left a sour taste in my mouth about their quality after a co worker's recommendation for what to order), and have never gone back. Today, I did a door dash order for lunch, regular Italian with some add ons , and an order of fries with hot sauce/blue cheese. The Italian was good. It wasn't epic like other local places but it was really good. Like, better than almost every other sandwich joint around. Loaded with meats and veggies that tasted fresh. The roll was kind of "meh" but otherwise good. The fries were salted nicely and tasted good. The hotsauce , I think was Frank's or a Frank's knock off and the blue cheese was definitely a middle of the road cheap blue cheese. I was just happy to have freshly fried fries, and a solid Italian. I wasn't looking for award winning, i just wanted a delicious sandwich and some fries.. and I got it. read more

Stopped in here for a quick lunch and bought a large ham and cheese sandwich and it was terrible. I had to look twice to make sure there was any ham in the sandwich and there were huge chunks of onions instead of smaller slivers. And the roll tasted as if it were a day old. Consistently great experience here. I think their fries are the best. Just the way I like them. Golden fried, crinkle cut, and a LOT of them. You want seasoned fries? You want hand cut fries? You want those crap fries they serve at Applebee's? Too bad. You're not getting sub par fries at this place. If D&J ever changes their fries I can honestly say I won't go there as much. Seriously. I've had Italian hoagies, chicken cheese steaks, and ham & cheese. The only real disappointment I've had with the ham & cheese is that by default they put mayo on it. No biggie, I just make sure to order without. Also, I am not a fan of their regular cheese steaks. Only other thing I could wish for is that they start making roast beef hoagies. read more

Heard very good things about this place so decided to give it a try, especially with the pandemic right now & supporting small local businesses. Unfortunately I was let down, ordered two different sandwiches & two kids pizza meals. Sandwiches were completely wrong, had everything on them but what we wanted. Pizza looked like it was made awhile ago & the edges were very hard for my niece & son to bite into. Very disappointed after spending $60. Won't be buying again. read more

The prices are way high , 8 bucks for a large twin Berger that dosent include soda or fris . And if you pay with a credit card they have a sign , That will cost you .50 extra . The food is ok . Stopped in last week. Liked the nostalgic atmosphere - had an old school 1950 soda shop feel. Employees were relatively friendly. I ordered an Italian hoagie on a hard roll. The sandwich was prepared relatively quickly and the meat and toppings seemed fresh, but the roll was either old or just not very good. I think the most important ingredient to a good sandwich is the roll. As a result I can't recommend and probably won't come back considering I can get a better sandwich at wawa for less. read more

My grandfather lived less than 2 blocks away, so for 30 years of out of town family visits, D&J was a given, a requested staple in the family diet! This was MANY years ago, when Don? & Don Jr? owned and ran the place. I feel it hasn't been the same without them. Tried a few years ago, but a sparsely meated Italian and steak sandwiches kept us driving to Shillington or West Lawn to another two initial sandwich shop. I now own my grandfather's house, and last week I thought I'd give D&J another chance. I got a small cheesesteak and a cold slice of tomato pie/Sicilian pizza - over $9!!! The cheesesteak was meaty, but I thought the meat and sauce lacked any spice, zest and flavor for my taste buds. The hard roll was great, unlike some other reviews. The cold slice was ok, but nothing to write home about for the price. I think I'll still make that drive for cheesesteaks, and if I'm hungry for a slice, I can drive 2 miles and get a $5 hot-n-ready - a whole pizza for double the cost of a single slice at D&J. To be fair to D&J, I will try an Italian and a Coney Dog over the next few weeks. It is a cool little sandwich shop, and I miss walking there for a meal. read more

First time i go to get food there and guess what?!?!?!? Not only is it expensive just for 2 ham and cheese hoagies and a hot dog with fries, but its like please assemble the food yourself. they put the lettuce and tomatoes first and then slab on the cheese and ham... talk about a** backwards, maybe thats there idea of making different sandwiches. The fries with the cheese is the only thing that i like so far. i wouldnt go there again thats my opinion, but if you want to try it go ahead!! Awful. The rolls are hard and obviously stale. Ordered a hard roll, which I understand, but bit into it, and the the entire sub fell apart. The roll is what makes a sub, and D&J leaves an awful lot to be desired. The meat and vegetables are far from fresh. The prices don't even begin to mirror the quality of food, which is unfortunate, because despite the close locale to my home, I am very much willing to drive the couple extra miles to Mama's, or even Wawa, to get a sub that is actually worth my money. Had to pay full price for a whole extra soda to refill my small, flat coke. And please forget ordering the wheat rolls which are comparable to biting into flavorless cement; obviously not often used, but unfortunately also not often thrown away when need be. They clearly do not know how to run a business. Esp a restaurant business. With a menu size like that, you know you are not getting fresh food, but clearly no one ever told them that. Don't even get me started on the 50 cent credit card charge. Absolutely ridiculous. I wont be returning. read more
