We stumbled upon Mays after turning the wrong way on 422 while passing through central PA. The store is covered in "Best of Berks"(county) and "Best of Reading" awards. Sorry, we just didn't get it. We had a veggie wrap and an Italian. Two very bland sandwiches. read more

We like others tried this place based on reviews we have seen but we were very dissatisfied my wife ordered chicken strips that were not very tasty she also ordered a sandwich for work Turkey and cheese when she went to eat it she found out they made tuna instead how dose someone make that mistake ? I ordered a cheesesteak sandwich most every place I get one puts sauce on them they did not you shouldn't have to ask for sauce it's standard in any steak sandwich the steak meat was mostly gristle and chewy a very poor quality of meat lastly I purchased a bag of chips marked 5.69 on my receipt I was charged 6.69 !! For a establishment with such good reviews and in business for so long I expected more how do they remain in business serving food of such poor quality!! read more

Cannot say enough great things about Mays!!! My daughter wanted sub sandwiches for her graduation party. I had looked at several places in the area and didn't like anything I was finding. Then I came across Mays. When I called they were super helpful with walking me through some of the detail items that I hadn't thought of prior to making the order (onions on the side, how big to cut them, etc) and they helped me figure out exactly how many sandwiches we would need. When the party day rolled around the trays of sandwiches were ready, they had everything set up beautifully so all we had to do was set them on the serving table and take the wrapping off. They even helped us carry them to the car. We were able to serve food to approximately 25 guests for under $100 and even had some left over sandwiches for the family to eat the next day. Gross. Never again! My husband just picked up sandwiches for us and we were sadly disappointed. My chicken cheesesteak had fake, rubbery, gross chicken pieces as the meat. I took three bites and couldn't continue eating it. My husband's cheesesteak wasn't much better. The best part was the frozen French fries. read more

Used to be very high on my list of places to eat. Employees used to be nice and knew what they were talking about if I had questions about a menu item. I recently ordered from here and noticed a whole new staff of young teenage boys who seemed to not know the proper way to work or be in any type of public setting. I wasn't acknowledged when I walked in ( previously employees or manager would say I'll be right with you or at least a hello) they talked amongst themselves ( as I stood there waiting to order) and laughed and carried on with themselves. As far as sandwiches, they are nothing like they used to be a couple months even a year ago. I came to Mays all the time and was always well respected and loved my food. Recently everything was sloppy, greasy, not well wrapped, and overall disgusting to look at. The time I waited for a few sandwiches was ridiculous, none of the workers have any sense of time. Food is good some days ( depends who is working ). They are getting 2 starts because I know the potential this place has and they are not living up to it with the people working right now. I heard a lot of people say they have been disrespected on the PHONE and in PERSON. I hope they see this rising issue and find better employees. read more

Mays is a fantastic sandwich shop. First, you are not going to find a cheaper place to eat in the entire county! I always use the Facebook online ordering and there are SO many options for everything you get...from hard or soft rolls, a large variety of cheese, different toppings, you name it, they got it! Italians are phenomenal. I've had the turkey club as well which was very good. Hamburgers and cheese steaks seems to be of the variety you can get yourself frozen at the grocery store...but they are still delicious. And for the price well worth it. Soups are great as well. Nice people but the food could not be more more average. We recently purchased sub tickets for a charity and tried the place. Chicken salad was not edible due to a rotten egg smell. Turkey was ok but the bread was squishy and overall the subs were bland. read more

We went here based on the good reviews it has and we did not like their food at all. We got a buffalo chicken sandwich and grilled chicken wrap and both had warmed up frozen chicken on top that tasted rubbery. We would not go back there. We had to throw away our sandwiches after a few bites due to the taste of the warmed up chicken. read more

Mays makes excellent sandwiches. Whether you want a cheese steak or an Italian I highly recommend Mays. Yesterday they went above and beyond for my husband and me. We got to the door 10 minutes after they closed, but they opened up for us, got everything out of the fridge and made us 4 sandwiches.
