    A jewel tucked away on the 8th floor of Shangri-La The Fort. Incredible discovery of heaven on earth! Excellent ambiance supplemented with the best staff! The staff: Wine (this is a real name guys), Dawn, Ryan (I think he's the manager), Jinno, Leona, of course Chef Carlo, and many more that I unfortunately could not remember the names. They were all so gracefully helpful, genuine in their service and very accommodating! This is the reason why I frequently came back with family, colleagues, and friends in my short stay (week and a half) at the Shangri-La Fort during my business trip. Can you believe they haven't even officially had a grand opening? This is an excellent complement for a Shang restaurant that just had their soft opening. Today is November 2016. By December, when the main Shang pool and bar are opened (just behind the outdoor sitting of the restaurant), I have no doubt that this will be the Ibiza of the Fort! This place has the BEST empanada that I have tasted so far globally as a frequent traveler... definitely best in Manila!!!! The red snapper paired with risotto type Peruvian rice.... Heavenly! My claim to fame is the "Itlog nang Dinosaur" (Dinosaur Egg). A must have after your meal. PISCO SOUR!!!!!!!!I highly recommend the outdoor sitting area! My wishlist for Samba: 1. play lounge music to enhance the experience. This will definitely elevate the experience especially when the pool is officially opened. 2. Isn't guinea pig a local Peruvian food? Would be great if added to your menu... cochinillo Peruvian style. 3. Pisco Sour is good. Wouldn't it be a treat for the guests if you actually made it live in front of them? Especially since it takes a while to make and serve after the order. Keep up the great work and service! You deserve to be recognized!!!!!!!!

    I had a wonderful experience at Samba during their Shangri-La Loves Food Festival, which brought in Chef Mitsaharu Tsumara of Lima, Peru the man behind Maido, which ranked #13 in the World's 50 Best Restaurants of 2016. Expect traces of Chef Tsumara's Peruvian flavours and Japanese cooking techniques to be echoed on their final menu starting November 1st of 2016. The place has a Latin American vibe that's in tune to Shangri-La's usual refined finishings. Located on the 8th floor facing the pool, it offers al fresco dining that furthers the chill ambiance. Waiters are suited in a casual outfit marked by their straw boater hat and light tone of their uniform. Heading the restaurant forward would be Chef Carlo Huerta Echegaray, Born in Peru, he started his passion at the young age of 16. He graduated at Le Cordon Bleu Peru, where he honed his cooking skills and techniques. He spent several years of his career travelling through South America. In 2010, he became the executive chef at one of the most important fine-dining restaurants in Lima. Now, he will be sharing his experience to diners at Shangri-La at the Fort.

There was a logo of fire on the menu item but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be spicy because I couldn't tell. Still a great dish I would order again. And for dessert we went with the ube churro. Wow! Soft, flaky and it comes with a chocolate dip. Good but not needed. The ube churro was already delicious on its own. Such a good dining experience. Well worth coming back! Thank you!

The highlights of my visit were the following: 1) SHRIMP POPPERS - The shrimp's crispy texture paired with the savory dressing made up for a good appetizer. 2) DEEP-FRIED PORK BELLY - It looked plain and simple but it surprised me as the seasoning was very good in the delicious, crunchy pork belly. 3) GRILLED LAMB STEAK - It is what I think is my favorite dish out of all that I've tried. The seasoning on the lamb was perfect and the meat was really juicy. It was a bit difficult to eat it due to its bony structure, but it didn't stop me from eating it. 4) CARNE Y GAMBAS - I found this just as good. The Sirloin steak was roasted very well. Additionally, it tasted really good even without the help of any sauce. 5) SALTED CARAMEL AND BANANA CHEESECAKE - The cheesecake was sweet and decadent. The banana on top complemented it, while the drizzled thick salted caramel sauce helped balance the sweetness.

The restaurant in question is local celebrity Paolo Bediones' newest venture Puñta Manila. Reading it without an inflection, it means "to go" while reading it with, it becomes said expletive. I just don't get it. Anyway moving on, Puñta Manila's specialty is Latin American street food, which is a refreshing change of pace. Just smelling the wafting aroma of the food being cooked is enough to make your mouth drool. The complex combinations of different flavors and spices will definitely put a smile on the face of first-timers and returning customers alike. If you're to order just one dish however, I recommend the Lo Mejor, which when translated, means 'the best'. Can't argue with that.

Always loved how the sirloin was cooked to perfection, with melted cheese on top -- the flavors really blend in and complement each other. Another would be Puerco Asado, which is roasted pork belly, served with rice, beans, and salad. It's served generously and the pork belly is bursting with flavors. The serving is just enough to make you feel full and satisfied. All in all, Brasas is a great choice if you feel like exploring other dishes, without sacrificing taste and satisfaction.

A brief, joking conversation with a bouncer took an unexpectedly dark turn. When I lightheartedly asked if anyone had ever tripped on the spiral staircase, he replied, "Only if I throw them off." Joking or not, for someone responsible for patron safety, this felt in poor taste and sounds like he wants to look or sound intimidating. It's a remark that unfortunately sticks with you. And it was of bad taste. Overall, Z Roof Deck has much to offer in terms of views and ambiance, but attention to staff training and customer interaction would elevate it from a good spot to a great one. 2 star from poor choice of words from the security at the roof deck.
