It's an…read moreair-conditioned mini-mall right across the street from the Columbia Heights metro stop, including Washington Sports Club, Target, Best Buy, Marshalls, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Perfumania. The Target also has a Starbucks inside it. (Payless recently closed down, and Staples closed a while ago.) It also has a big enclosed parking garage, with elevator access to the stores. Detractions include a bizarre lack of cell phone service in patches, especially in the stores farthest from the street (lookin' at you, Marshalls). The place can also get crowded, most of all on weekends. And sometimes the escalators are broken, but the tend to get fixed within a day or two. Overall, right in the middle for shopping centers, but there are few like it in such a central area of the district, so it'll probably survive for a long time coming.

There are pros and cons to this shopping center…read more Pros: Target, Best Buy, a pretty cheap parking lot ($1.50 per hour!). Target staff is actually pretty nice, can't comment on staff at other stores in the center. Lots of security presence at Target (not a bad thing, but don't be offended if they ask to see your receipt for big items in your cart). Mid weekday is a great time to shop and this store has every section represented - full offering of kids, shoes, home, food, etc. Metro right out front, super convenient if you aren't driving. Also, bus stop is a block south on 14th Street. TONS of places to eat on 14th as well. Cons: Horrific driving (it can take 15 minutes to go 2 blocks into the garage. Awful, one lane, one way streets). You HAVE to go up or down 14th Street and turn on Park to get in the parking garage. Each have one turning lane. Often busses or construction/delivery trucks take up one lane, so people turning are in the same lane as those going straight. HUGE jams. Stores are packed, often empty shelves on weekends. Weekends + long lines, but that's at all Targets. So if you need a lot of stuff, it's not a bad place to go, but time your visit carefully or get used to lots of deep breathing as you try to navigate driving up 14th Street. I have found it quicker to actually drive out of DC to Alexandria or Rockville versus dealing with the awful driving around this store. Whoever in the city planners office decided to set up the streets/turn signs/lights around this mall needs to be fired. With more high rise apt buildings going up, that area is only getting more packed by the year. Something needs to be done.

This Target definitely serves its purpose in this area. With that, this store is almost always…read moreextremely packed. You have to go with the hustle and bustle and hope that you don't forget anything. On top of that, you really have to pay attention to see where departments are in this store. I had several items I knew I needed to get and I didn't want to make anymore stops than I needed to on my way home. Plus, I had a plan to stay in all weekend and this would fulfill that plan as well. I came in and darted to areas that I knew I needed to go to. I was amazed by the fact that everything I needed was stocked and available. I made it a point to not get a cart or basket because I didn't need to buy anything just because I saw. Using only my hands to grab the items helped in this train of thought. You can only carry so many items and this limited me to impulse buying. Then I got to the registers and this is where it kind of turns into the hunger games. You can either take your chances and stand in one of the two long lines at registers that are manned. Or you can stand in line at the self checkouts and hope that the people in front of you know how to use them and use them fast. I chose the latter and almost regretted this as the people in front of me were slower than I expected. I did end up getting through my own checkout quickly and since I had my own bag ready, I was out of that area and on my way back out. Why the freight elevator is at the entrance of this place, I don't know, as it is a big obstacle to go around when entering and exiting. And the exit side is almost always littered with people that you have to sidestep with the best of them.

I came to this Target for the first time, there is a parking lot attached. I shopped then asked…read moresecurity in Target about validation. She stated I only needed my receipt. I proceeded to exit and tried to scan my receipt. When it didn't take, I called on the help button for assistance. Explaining I shopped at the store and was trying to validate my parking. I was informed they don't validate and I had to pay. I would not be using their parking facility if I wasn't shopping at target. I paid but I will not return, that's terrible service!
