When I entered there was a huge swarm of people purchasing items and there were only a few items left, some briefcases, bags and knapsacks, other than that the store was practically empty. JB's is affiliated with Satchel shop out of Vancouver and the shopkeeper informed me that all three JB's in Calgary were closing shop. She wasn't sure if anything would reopen or transpire in other locations, all she knew was these stores were closing. From what I saw JB's used to sell were quality bags from Italy and mostly designer names like Kenneth Cole, Victorinox Swiss, just to give some examples. In the coming days all stock should be sold and moved and she claimed that this store location would be closed before Xmas.

But recently I walked by and saw a really nice party dress...perfect for the holiday season. I was in a rush though so I noted the dress and came back about a week later on a weekend. The dress was no longer on display but I found it easily enough on the rack. They had a few sizes left and thankfully one that looked like it would fit. No sooner did I have the dress in hand, did a sales woman offer to start a fitting room for me. A little pushy but after that she didn't bother me so I can't complain. I quickly glanced around the store. There was a lot going on and most of the styles I saw weren't my thing. I think they cater to a slightly older crowd (late 40's/50's +) (they did have a cruise wear section). They also have stuff that I'd consider to be a little more whimsical/unique in design which isn't my personal preference but I could picture some women I know who would love the clothes there. The dress fit perfectly (yay for in-change-room mirrors) and I made the purchase...at just a little over $100 it was a good deal on a party dress in my opinion. I'd recommend shopping at this store on the weekends as it always looks a bit busy during weekdays. Also, during the week they have live mannequins stationed at the door. They creep me out a little bit but others may not mind :)

Today (very upset) because the lights were on, 2 ladies working in the store and the doors were locked. I knocked and the moment the saw me, they went to the back room. They've got so many different shoes to choose from, it's actually a little overwhelming. I'd say about of the store is dedicated to ladies shoes, leaving the other for the men. I, being a woman, happen to love this fact. I like having a good variety of shoes to choose from when I'm shopping for something. For the most part I would say that the shoes are way too expensive. I mean, some of the shoes merit a high price, but others it just seems ridiculous. Most of the time the shoes are a little too expensive for me, and just pass the acceptable rate that I'll spend on a pair of shoes. A good thing is they have some pretty good sales sometimes, reaching up to 50% off, for example. I don't find the staff of this place to be all that helpful, or maybe they just don't seem that eager to be helpful. Whenever I've asked for a size, it seems like I'm asking for something so unreasonable they can't believe I've said anything. This has actually happened to me a couple of times, so I'm not just crazy. The shoes are nice, but the prices are high; the store is cool, but the workers appear rude. It is amazing the amount of merchandise in this location. Everything is easy to browse and well stocked. I have only rarely found anything to be out of stock and only for a very short time. A very good selection of leather both full hides and remnants is available. The only drawback I find and this is an issue with Tandy not with this location is the pricing. The store follows the online catalogue pricing but I find that prices on hardware, fittings etc runs 3x or 4x higher than I can find comparable items online. If I can wait the 4 or 6 weeks for delivery I will wait.
