He has had 3 recent stays in Mosaic Life Center, the hospital in St. Joseph…read more RE: Ray W. May 30-June 4 stay @ Mosaic Life Center in St. Joseph I spoke to several care givers between Saturday and Thursday. On Tuesday, I spoke to a nurse by phone. She could not find anywhere in his chart that he was on antibiotics. They had been prescribed by that hospital but there were no notes she could find. The order for the antibiotics for ENDOCARDITIS was done and "lost" in less than 24 hours between being released from the hospital and quickly returning due to GI bleed. The GI bleeds happened because they said he had a blood clot at the central line site. The infection in his heart remained after an infection in his blood stream. I put in a request for infectious disease to see him then call me. That was not done. GI had seen him but had not explained to him what they were going to do regarding the reason for admittance on Saturday which was a GI bleed. He was supposed to be getting blood transfusions and antibiotics. I did speak to the hospitalist who assured me he understood my problem and would help Dad. He also told me that an ultrasound had been done to determine the status of the blood clot. He said there was no blood clot found. The blood thinners were to break down the clot. If it had been there, it wouldn't have gone away so quickly. The blood thinner was the reason for the GI bleed. He has a history of GI bleeds with no determined source. This doc settled on Dad having an AVM after they found nothing on the EGD or the camera pill. When I arrived in my dad's room Wednesday morning, he was laying on a plastic mattress with no sheet under him, no blanket on him, listing uncomfortably off to the side, having trouble breathing, with his pillow at an awkward angle. He was sitting in his mess as there was no catheter or Pure Wik on him. There was trash on the floor in multiple places, the trash can was over flowing, there were no supplies such as wipes, a laundry liner, sheets, etc. Although he was scheduled for an EGD, his food had been delivered but left out of his reach with NO explanation to him as to why. I pushed the nurse button and waited several minutes. I then went in search of someone. I found a group of doctors with a nurse and clearly stated my father needed attention from someone immediately. His nurse arrived acting like nothing was wrong, smiling the whole time, seemingly unconcerned about his condition. She went to get another nurse to assist her in repositioning Dad. It took yet another nurse to recognize that he STILL needed sheets. The first nurse that came told me she had been busy and had not been to his room yet that morning and therefore had no idea of the issues. This was at 9am. Another nurse came in and between the 3 of them, he was cleaned up and the bed made. By then, it was nearly 9:30. He had not been given any pain meds yet and was very uncomfortable during that time. I had to request pain meds although it was VERY obvious that he was hurting. He's classified as having VRE but I had been told he was cleared of that. His DNR order was not in his chart nor was it posted anywhere. The claim was made that this all had to be due to the night staff not "handing him off at the bedside" to the day staff. The charge nurse came in to look into the issues and figure out what was needed. He had not been given his antibiotics for ENDOCARDITIS nor had he been sent to dialysis nor had he been given the blood transfusion. She had to search for quite a bit to find those orders. She was quick to resolve those issues by getting things ordered. She and the second, third, and fourth nurse seemed to actually care. The patient advocate came in about 9:45. She and my sister talked while I stayed at Dad's side. She clarified and explained everything to the advocate who truly seems to care. We made it abundantly clear that the nurse(s) responsible are to go nowhere near Dad or have any part of his care. We also considered transferring him when he was stable but the hospitalist got him discharged as soon as that was done. I was told by another employee that Dad's room wasn't the only one left in that type of condition. We had barely any time to visit with Dad although we were there nearly 2 hours before having to leave. Most of that time was spent dealing with issues, explaining everything, talking to the doc, etc. Currently, we live in VA and had to leave to return. We have had to rely on phone calls and what we've been told. This hospital is NOT to be trusted. Dad will NEVER be sent back to Mosaic. That is quite sad because on his previous visits, he had been well cared for. They will NOT get that chance again. That information will be in any place I can put it. Reviews, BBB, hospital board, anyone. They treated my pure gold Dad like dirt. Never again.

Let me start off by saying the parking sucks here. I drove around for 30 minutes before I found a…read morespot to park. Second, what's the point of having a 12noon appt if the hospital dosent even have the medicine ready for you at 12-50? I'm seriously not coming back to this hospital anymore!
