As always with the Civic, the getting out of the theater is always terrible to try to get to the parking lot the elevators always packed and then you figure out the people are going up a flight of stairs and getting on to the elevator up above so you have no chance from being in ground level and getting on to them and then you get into the parking structure and finding your car and waiting to get out but just the initial getting out of the theater and having to walk up all the stairs to your parking level then the smell of urine throughout the stairwell is always lovely. I'm a native San Diegan and have been coming to the theater as long as I can remember and they need to have a new theater somewhere away from downtown to have events the downtown experience is terrible the homeless situation is terrible the urine situation is terrible it's time to move the Civic. And also don't allow people to bring food into the theater it's not a movie.

It remained closed until 2008 where it was restored and now it full of performances from comedy shows, plays and music. On this first time visit I came here to see Bobby Lee's stand up performance. Our seats were in the balcony level way above. At this level it is a little diffcult to see the stage as you have to angle your head down wards to see the stage. Viewable but its very far. The seats are very tiny and it difficult to walk across as every inch is used up in the theatre. Acoustic were great and the overall detail and restoration is amazing to look at. Great theatre venue overall but would recommend not sitting in balcony.

Through our years dating, traveling or residing in cosmopolitan cities we have both seen our share of musicals, plays, and operas. We have seen performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Lincoln Center in New York, the National Theatre in London. I've even had the pleasure to see the Royal Ballet in Russia when I worked in international student exchange, but I don't want to get too political about Russia right now! Swan Lake is probably the most famous and classical ballet I've had the pleasure to view. However, when I saw the Great Gatsby was being performed here in San Diego, all I could think of was tap dance and fringed flapper girls! When you modernize anything, all of of a sudden it can appeal to a newer and larger audience. So, last weekend we booked the matinee, a great option for when you want to brunch beforehand or dinner afterwards. We enjoy sitting in the loge, in dance, it's a great perspective to see things from above, in addition you have less people coming and going for various breaks. Although, I must admit a more considerate crowd than a typical sporting event. The show was fun and everything we hoped. A little jazz, some tap, and a lot of ballet. Prior to the performance and at intermission, students of the ballet school sold programs and merchandise to suporrt their programs and the arts. We have to keep the arts alive through dance and movement. Many, many, years ago, I taught ballroom dance and I had a student by the name of Jaffe. It became a huge shock me that I was the dance teacher of a prima ballerina's father. Susan Jaffe, danced with American Ballet Theatre and with the world famous Baryshnikov! I NEVER dreamed of being a ballerina, but I believe in the arts and supporting all art forms. So, let it be known, it is good to step outside your comfort zone, try something new, you NEVER know what you might like, you NEVER know who you might meet or what you might discover. In response to another review addressing the administrative team of SDCC, I must say that every single interaction I have had with admin (which is numerous) has been no less than wonderful. They are professional, kind, helpful, responsive, and friendly! Parent chaperones (volunteers) have also been generous with their time, and do their best to supervise children during and between performances. I have never witnessed nor heard of "mean" chaperones, though I would expect them to be appropriately firm when the situation calls for it.
