It is the 3rd and final race in the Triple Crown Series (Carlsbad, La Jolla, and AFC). The course is predominantly downhill at the beginning, followed by some flat miles in the middle. Once you get into the downtown area, you will come up to some significant uphill climbs. Be sure to save something for that last climb up 6th Ave. Most years it's hot and humid, so stay hydrated and run through those water spray stations! The race expo is located at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel on Harbor Island just south of the San Diego International Airport. More specifically it's inside the Bayside Pavilion at the southern end of the hotel property. If you drive, they have free parking in the dirt lot just as you turn onto Harbor Island Dr off of Harbor Dr. Important for race day: The start line is located at Cabrillo National Monument over at Point Loma. You'll need to take one of the shuttles from Balboa Park over to the start line. You cannot be dropped off at the start. They have 2 pick-up locations on Park Blvd, one at the corner of Presidents Way and the other at Zoo Place. Currently they reward you with the Triple Crown medal in addition to the finisher medal when you've completed the 3 race series in the same calendar year. They also reward you with the Triple Triple Crown medal when you've completed the Triple Crown 3 times.

But I, like many others, traveled to San Diego in order to run this race on top of obviously paying for it. When the time came for options after it was cancelled, they only let you defer to next year's, or choose between 3 other races and offered 50% off lol. No option for a refund. We just got our meal with the deferral code to sign up. I paid $149 to run in the race in August, the race is currently $99. I thought it was reasonable to ask for a code to receive pictures/video ($25 value). Since again, I paid $149 initially and was given no option for a refund of my money. The woman who emailed back, Ellen, responded with attitude and with something that had nothing to do with my question. I then had to email back reiterating my question, and she responded back saying no and cited me signing up late last year. Which I don't believe has anything to do with the dollar value that I'm trying to get back (again, considering a refund wasn't even an option). I will definitely not sign up for this one again.

Crowd was wonderful - lots of funny signs, cheering, music, alcohol stops and overall inspiration to complete this hilly course - thank you, neighbors and volunteers! Now I got the bragging rights to say I completed a half marathon while in my 40s, and also motivated two other guys to put in the work necessary to finish ahead of me. Worth it!

It was sponsored by St Jude hospital where they gave you another opportunity to donate to the kids there for free medical expenses provided at the hospital made easy by donors like yourself. The expo was on Broadway Pier located Downtown on the Embarcadero on Friday and Saturday while you had the chance to pick up your BIB and a lovely swag running jacket . I was in and out in no time with all my gear and of course free samples of chocolate and marshmallows! Sunday was race day and the 5k (3.2 mi) started at 645 am while the 15k (9.3 mi) started at 745am at K street in Downtown San Diego right next to Petco Park. The race was well organized with live music and photographers taking pictures. As for the course it was one of the funnest courses I have ran with hills on top of hills. As I runner you always have to remember what must go up must come down! The course was well managed with volunteers giving out electrolytes, water, and of course sweet treats such as chocolates and gummies every couple of miles. The photographers were great while all the pictures they took were were uploaded that same day unlike most races where you have to wait a week or so to view them. Overall it was a fun hilly Downtown race with scenic views and unexpectedly I finished 1st in my age group and 27th overall! Looking forward to run this race again in the future because I had such a great time and the swag they gave out was awesome along with the post race hot chocolate, Graham crackers, oreos, bananas, and of course marshmallows!

There is just something that is way awesome about having the city shut down the 163 for a few hours so you can run on it. Watch it on that ramp though, it is slippery when wet and I almost fell on my arse. One of the best race routes ever because there is also just something about running down 5th ave past all of those gaslamp bars and restaurants. So THAT'S what they look like in the morning. I'm ready to do this again!

The long sleeved tech shirts they gave were very nice though, they just ran a bit small. Make sure to sign up early to guarantee getting a shirt. After the race, the expo was small but so many samples. Don't forgot your hot buttered rum! I tried the non alcoholic version which was yummy. I volunteered for packet pick up Saturday, day before from 11-2pm at Roadrunner. They gave volunteers the red version of the race shirt, lovin it. Packet pick up seemed easy & very convenient that you can pick up for other people. I had fun meeting people with the same addiction: running, races, medals! Love that they offer 1k race and kids kandy kane race for the baby runners. Definitely want to take my nephew & niece. Can't beat a race starting at 10am! But it did get warmer than I thought it would. And parking was super easy & close. Loved everything about this race and can't wait for next year.

Overall fun race experience & I would like to run it again…read more. It's along the embarcadero/Seaport Village.. So I personally like the view. But I also used to run here on the reg when I lived close by. It just makes it hard to find parking since it's limited in the area. Loved the vibes before & after the race. They had a fun DJ/MC with dance offs & warm ups. Everyone was dressed up too! And a lot of booths giving away free things like hats you can bling out, water bottles, sunglasses. Coolest medal ever! The guy dances! Not a fan of their white t-shirt though. They had nice gold winners medals! I unfortunately didn't know they gave it to top 3 in age categories so didn't even check the booth to collect mine or wait for the awards ceremony. I've never been able to receive a winners medal so I was so sad when I found out I could've gotten one but missed the opportunity. So I tried to contact the event coordinators via e-mail & facebook to see if I could pick it up at their Long Beach race, but no answer! I'm obviously still bitter about this. Otherwise would've been 5 stars and I would've done their LB race..

This was the first year for the Disco Fever 5K to be run in San Diego. I've never run a race in SD…read moreso I'm can't speak to how it compares to other races in the area. But compared to other races I've run myself, this was on the small side. Packet pick up at Road Runner's Sports was easy; the process took me less than 10 minutes. The t-shirt is nice and there were some nice snacks and goodies in our race pack. The race is set at the Embracadero and run along the running path along the harbor. Despite it starting at 730am (first wave) there are still tourists taking a stroll and other non-race runners out so you gotta watch out for them too. I loved the warm up--even if you weren't participating, it was nice to have the music playing and the emcee keeping things fun and light. There was some runner support with volunteers cheering on the racers at a few different points and the water station half way through. I didn't dress for the theme (sorry!) but I did appreciate the different disco costumes I saw. Kudos to the guy who ran in full disco Elvis attire, including wig! And the sparkly disco dresses were fun and flirty. Every finisher got a medal--yeah! and of course special medals to the top finishers. There were bananas, water, gatorade and other snacks afterward--a lot more than what I've seen at other races. Everyone working the race were friendly and supportive. A really fun atmosphere. Glad I was in town to run the race!

The course and course support along with the motivational signs were great. My favorite sign? WTF? Where's the Finish? The course itself is beautiful and FLAT! With the exception of a couple of bridges, this one was awesomely flat and fast. I shaved 7 minutes of my time from Carlsbad just a month before. PR baby! I recommend it as a fast race to enjoy with 1800 other women runners. And the shirts this year were super cute and the medal? BLING!!!!

I love this race! This is my first time doing the Competitor's Women's Half Marathon. The event is…read morefairly small, so it wasn't overwhelming. The course was relatively flat, with the exception of running up and over a bridge a few times. The starting point for the 2014 race was at Liberty Station. It takes you out and around Harbor Island. Then, you swing back and run around Shelter Island, before heading back to Liberty Station. I was so amazed by the energy and support from the other women. And from the folks watching the event? AWESOME! Great support from organizations, schools and spectators all around. Let's not forget about the medal and the glass of champagne waiting for you at the finish. Way cool! There were plenty of parking spots available for the race day event. Also, after the run, there are a number of restaurants you and your friends and family can dine at, so you can recoup the 1000+ calories you burnt off running. Two words: Coldstone Milkshake. Just sayin'. The only negative in my eyes was the expo. It wasn't anything to be impressed over. This was surprising since Competitor is the same group that does the Rock 'n Roll series, which is huge. Huge! This expo? Not so huge. Finding parking for the expo was a pain in the rear, with all the construction going on along Harbor Drive. Also, you would have had to pay for parking because the expo was located right on the Broadway Pier, west of downtown. Hopefully, next year, they'll pick a better and more accessible spot for the expo. The running shirt and the reusable bag were excellent quality, at least. Overall, this is a great race for any woman who wants to do their first half marathon in San Diego. I plan on doing this again next year. Definitely a 4 1/2 star event.
