I skated on some the best ice rinks in the New Jersey and New York when I was younger, as well as on ponds and lakes in the winter. From what I have observed, UTC Ice is a very nice facility.

With the fees you pay and the bare minimum they need to offer, they don't even provide you with real bases to run on. Sometimes the lights go off in the middle of the night games, leading to shortened games, though this may not be their fault. The umpires are inconsistent. I tried contacting the owner and operator of the league to discuss the issues with no response. You do get what you pay for - will consider another league in the future. UPDATED REVIEW: I was contacted by Mitch and Pete after my posting. I will say that Pete did make an effort to address the situation to a certain extent, and that effort is appreciated, though I can't say the same for Mitch, who was rather unprofessional and rude in his response. Though the customer service aspect certainly was lacking, once the conversation was started, it appeared that at least Pete does seem to care about the player experience. He has made positive changes to correct the problem we had with the bases.

Cons: This is tackle football, yet the coaches do not teach how to tackle in practices. The coaches have favorites, usually their own kids and kids that have played there for years, and rarely allow other kids the chance to play in games. The coaches run the same type of run plays which don't work. Hard working kids with great ability and potential are not given the attention they should be. We won't be returning to this league.

Founded by 1992 Olympian, Chris Barlow, the team includes paddlers of all skill levels and ages and offers unique opportunities to travel to both regional and international competitions. The group meets on Fiesta Island and has been sponsored by the City of San Diego Lifeguards. The Children's Racing Team is an offshoot of the Junior Lifeguards program and trains the juniors in how to handle kayaks and canoes. In fact, the Children's Racing Team is the only program in San Diego designed to develop and train children in competitive paddling. My son became an expert kayaker thanks to the great training found here. He also got to march with the kids group in the annual OB Christmas Parade, where they roll down Newport Avenue in motorized kayaks! Because of the expert first class coaching, many participants go on to graduate and compete at world class levels. It is really nice to kayak early in the morning on Fiesta Island. There is a calming peacefulness found there and no where else like that in San Diego.
