I recently spent a month volunteering at this beautiful ranch near 150 Mile House. I had the opportunity to see how these free-range, grass-fed cattle live. Karen and Clint are dedicated to maintaining a sustainable ranch. They are diligent and balanced in the care of their livestock and pastures. They raised pigs at the ranch this year as well. The meat from San Jose Cattle is processed at a local abattoir, Rodear Meats. In addition to the usual cuts, Rodear cures bacon and make San Jose Cattle's signature beef 'smokies'. In exchange for my greenhorn efforts at the ranch, I got to enjoy some of the cuts. The steak is delicious and tender. The bacon was some the tastiest I've had. On Saturdays in the summer, Karen and Clint sell hot smokies and frozen cuts of meat at the Oliver Street farmers market in downtown Williams Lake. The rest of the year you can contact them and pick up meat at the ranch. If you're looking for delicious pasture-raised meat in central BC, this is as good as it gets. read more
