Went to San Lorenzo in Mossley for the second time, we should have lerned after the first time, but I am all for local restaurants and try to support them when we can. The last time we went I had steak strips in pasta with a pepper sauce, I spent most of the meal picking out about 150 rock hard whole peppercorns. we let the staff know about this but were told, "Thats the way the chef does it, I will let him know but he will take no notice" the food was Ok but we let it go.So to last night, decided to give it another go as I fancied a pizza. We did not book, and as it was early decided to give it a go. we were placed at a table by the door ( but not booking we were ok with this) waited about 5 mins for the menus, I wanted a pizza but none on menu??? but my wife saw a T-Bone steak in the "Chefs Specials" It sounded great so decided on that. My wife went for the salmon and whitefish lasagna. waites about 10 mins for girl to come for drinks. She was new and had no idea what they had. Sorted out drinks in end, but choice was poor unless you were drinking wine. Ordered food, was not asked how I wanted steak so told him medium/well also wanted no veg just potatoes. the food arrived and the steak looked a bit of a mess on plate, should have been a t-bone steak rubbed with smokey burnt herbs, covered with a rich sauce and fried mushrooms and onions (yum!!!!) but was more like a steak covered with watery gravy with a few mushrooms and onions dumped on it. the sauce was thin and tasteless the steak was cut thick on one side and thin on the other. The food came with potatoes and veg!!! Anyway started on steak (thin side) was ok at edge but a ltiile undercooked for me further in, but carried on as we had not seen any staff as we were out of the way. the thick side of the steak was rare to say the least and the blood just put me right off. No one ever came near table for drinks or tto ask if all was ok!!!!!. wifes pasta had very little salmon, and some white fish, should have been a white fish and salmon lasgna on menu. anyway, when waiter came he asked how it was, and he was told. said OK and went off. waited 10 mins then managed to get bill. tols the chefs daughter about food but she was dissmissive, she said she would tell him but he would not listen and would not knock anything off bill. "he is chef and he cooks, if you dont like it well" poor service, poor food and a chef who is arrogant enough to think he knows better then his customers. would not eat there again and would not reccomend it to anyone.PS the toilets are another matter covered elswhere in other reviews read more
