In Alamosa this is the go to place after 10PM. When I walked into Walmart there were shopping carts available to me. That in itself is a bonus. The store was clean and organized. I was greeted by THREE store associates while shopping. That is unheard of in Albuquerque. There were registers open and I was checked out within 5 minutes of getting in line. My cashier, Brandy, was efficient, cordial, and aware of other folks waiting in line. She let them know I'll be with you in one moment. Today the Alamosa Walmart gave my customer service I rarely see. Budget cuts and task oriented associates have dampened customer service and I understand why. Everyone else could take some tips from the Alamosa Walmart. Now if Walton wasn't such a turd Walmart might have gained some status in my book. For now I'm going to continue to stick with employers who pay a living wage to all of their associates. However, I will not soon forget this experience.

Details: (1) I went there for a severe toothache and they recommended a root canal but said the best they could do was in a month. (2) they lied about their schedule being packed, when in fact the reason I had to wait a month, in pain, was that Dr. Nazeri was about to go on vacation, which I only found out later; So she was willing to leave me in pain so she could get my business despite her vacation. That is a blatant violation of medical ethics. They should have referred me to another provider or expanded their hours to get me in quickly. (3) they lied to get me to have the specialized pre-root-canal x-ray (CBCT) right then at the initial exam -- they said it would save me a separate appointment (an hour's cab ride for me) because it could not be done on the same day as the root canal itself, which turned out to be false (as I discovered at another provider). They apparently wanted to get the $170 x-ray fee even if I went elsewhere for a sooner root-canal. (4) they said they would mail me the x-ray in time to use with another specialist. It's too big a file for email, and they wouldn't use Dropbox or similar service. But it arrived a week later, over 3 days after my appointment with a different provider, indicating that they delayed mailing it out, despite the promise, a reminder phone call from, me and assurance that it would be mailed in time. As a result I had to pay $167 for the same x-ray from another specialist. (5) I disputed the credit card charge mainly on the basis that the late mailing rendered their $170 x-ray useless to me. To my surprise and shock, Blanca Peak fought it! So I explained the whole story to the CC company, including the multiple lies, in writing, and they sustained my dispute in less than 24 hours! My usual policy is that if the merchant makes good on a problem (which most do), I do not write a negative review. In this case, they did not voluntarily make good, but fought the cc dispute.

Real thrift stores like this are getting hard to come by. They're all starting to get curated, overpriced, and over-shopped. I found a wooden train set for my preschooler for only ten bucks, and got a bunch of other items for $1 or $2 each: paperback books, kids clothes, glasses, and canning jars. I even got a shirt for myself!

They're too expensive…read morefor me to have a backup pair, beyond a pair of Rx sunglasses, so I went into MV Eye Care Center rather desperate. No one in the Valley seems able to solder the bridge back to the rim, and I'm blind and helpless without them. Kayla spent nearly an hour trying to find any frames in which she could fit these massive, "coke-bottle" lenses. In the end, she found a donated frame (free!) that will work temporarily. She provided suggestions and moral support [this was on top of any number of other issues, being the straw breaking the proverbial camel's back]. Most notably, she took the time to look up the make and model information of my (of course, discontinued) frames so that I could buy a cheap pair on Ebay ($40), then offered to put my lenses *back* in the new frames, once delivered, to keep me from having to start from $1,000 square one. This kind of humanity and kindness to a stranger are all-too-rare these days, and I'm so thankful to have met her on this otherwise rough day. My own (previous, 6-years of patronage) eye care place shrugged and said, "sorry, nothing we can do." Kayla proved them wrong simply by not giving up on me.
