Everyone was friendly, we are visiting from MO and wanted some decent Mexican food, so we decided to check this place out. I have to say the Chicken Enchilada was very good, and so was the rice and beans, but I wasn't a fan of the beef taco. It was not very flavorful. Everything else was great! read more

Review based on 3 visits. I think some may be too critical and some too kind about this place. Here's the bottom line. Its a pretty average, standard "mexican" restaurant in the way that it looks much like any Mexican restaurant that you may be familiar with. Where this place steps it up a little bit is its food. They have a large menu of all your favorites and then some. The service is fast. You usually dont finish your comp chips and salsa before your order arrives. The servers are on top of your drink situation. The prices are pretty reasonable. Suggestions: Get the chimichanga dinner with the rice and beans. Also, they have a potato skin appetizer that is KILLER. Dont misjudge the simple taco. read more

Most improved restaurant in Franklin Parish. While most local restaurant are happy to rest on their deep fried laurels and cater to their own small crowd, Tom, Martin and the San Marcos staff are working so hard to make this place an excellent choice. While the stock salsa in not my favorite, it does have its fan base -- and on request, the waitstaff will happily add pico to the salsa that makes it surprisingly close to real salsa. I grew up eating San Marcos and when I got married I moved out of town. My husband always try's to take me when we come down. He loves that every time he comes he can get something completely different and it's always tasty! He tried the "potato supreme" tonight and it was so yummy! You should try it out! I read the reviews from several years ago and almost passed on this restaurant. I am glad I chose to try it anyway. On arrival, I checked the restroom, which is usually a strong indicator of management's emphasis on cleanliness. It was clean and odor free. Our party consisted of three adults and one 8-year old. Service was prompt and friendly, with special attention to the youngster. The menu had copious choices, but we had no difficulty making a selection. We all found the food hot and tasteful. The final bill, including tip and one alcoholic beverage, was less than sixty dollars. Fairly priced, in my opinion. Definitely will eat here again when in Winnsboro (I live 45 minutes away). read more

I absolutely love mexican cuisine, and I've patronized this restaurant on a couple of occasions. I went back a couple of times, hoping for a better result. The food was okay, but I had to find something on the menu similar to what I wanted, because the wait staff either could not comprehend what I was asking for, could not understand what I was saying, or just didn't want to bother. Also, I just could not get pass the burning and cooking smells eminating from the kitchen. The wait staff was far less attentive than I hoped, and it is the only Mexican restaurant in town. It would be a good idea to focus on quality of service and cleaning and sanitation. I found other restaurants in town that better served, cooked and cleaned. read more

The food is decent and priced about the same as other Mexican restaurants. It just depends on who waits on your table. Some are very good, others not so much. The last time we went my wife and I ordered the same thing, only hers with no vegetables. When our waitress asked the kitchen staff which one was which, the kitchen staff replied "Figure it out." I walked over from the hotel. The staff was all gathered at a table by the door talking, faces in phones and finally looked up at me and acted as if I was disturbing them when I had to ASK if I seat myself? The guy sat me and asked if I wanted anything to drink??? I ordered water with lemon and he just looked at me then asked if I wanted anything with it. The chips came and was cold pieces. The so called salsa was tomato paste with a few spices. Tasted like sysco sauce out of a tub. Defiantly NOT fresh made. That was a huge problem for I grade a Mexican restaurant by there chips and salsa. I ordered Three enchilada plate with rice and beans. The rice was cold and dry as I have ever had and the beans were like a MRE meal. I am so glad all three enchiladas were good and the white cheese sauce was creamy and tasty. I had to flag the waiter down for a refill of water as they all were gathered back at the table. I was in town for three days working and ate other places the other two days. I am from Texas and LOVE Mexican food and would have ate there all three days IF it was better. This is a typical Sysco prepackaged restaurant and too bad the only Mexican joint in town.
