When in Rayville, there are a handful of restaurants to choose from. I had never been to San Miguel, so my aunt and uncle decided to take me to this place. Located in Smalltown, USA, the employees know almost everyone who walks in (besides me!). We are quickly seated, and are served hot tortilla chips and chunky salsa. We order a bowl of queso, while we pondered what to order. My uncle and I were looking at the Paradilla, and the waiter suggested that all 3 adults could share that meal. We were hungry, but were promised we could order more if it wasn't enough food. Boy oh boy! That plate (see picture) was piled high with steak, chicken, shrimp, sausage, and pulled pork! We quickly began to chow down, and soon realized our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, and asked for a to-go box! Overall, good service, good food, and a nice environment. Since the management changes the restaurant is clean, the wait staff is nice, and the prices are affordable. The food is amazing!!

we stoped for dinner at 9 and online the time says it closes at 10. when we walked in they sat us down and then told us at 905 that the kitchen was closed and we couldn't order anything.... she then told us they had dip so we ordered dip and waiting 20 mins for dip and drinks for 3 people. the employees were running around with a squeaky toy for about 10 mins when we were out of chips. honestly 0 out of 10 do better. read more

Excellent fresh Mexican food. This place is out of the way, but when we travel we like to get away from the Interstate fast food places. We always seem to have good luck, but this place was fantastic and reasonably priced. We travel I-20 a lot, and will now make this a regular stop. Husband and I were on a trip toward home to Texas. And it was time for dinner. Yelp helped us to find this place and it is both thumbs up! They are so nice and food was delicious. Recommend you to stop by even though it's in a really small town. By the way, my husband are fajita style chimichanga and I ate ground beef chimichanga. Everything like chips, salsa, beans and rice was very good blend. Normally I don't like Mexican rice but this one was very good. Trust me unless your tongue buds are weird. I created an account today just so I could review this restaurant. I travel for work A LOT so I really appreciate good food and friendly faces. I really like San Miguel's, and especially all their vegetarian options. Tonight I had the vegetarian fajita's and they were just what I needed after discovering what a crappy hotel I would be staying in. The service was fantastic and Lane (my waiter) even cut up half an avocado for me when I asked for extra guac. The food is by no means authentic mexican but it is good. We were passing by coming from Gulf Shores on our way home craving something different besides Southern food. What we ordered was all delicious!!! (Rice,beans, steak chimichanga,quesadillas, enchiladas and the shrimp cocktail) The downfall was the service. When walking in the host pointed to where we should sit and then the waitress so we thought took our drink orders and we waited a good 25 minutes for another waiter meanwhile she took orders from other tables that came in after us. There was one other table with people seated when we first came in. For that reason my 4 star is a 3 star. Server was ok. read more

If you're looking for a Mexican authentic restaurant this isn't the restaurant for you. My boyfriend are traveling all night to Texas and didn't want fast so we figured we'd eat here. Besides feeling uncomfortable because it's in a small town and everyone stares at you the food and service was disappointing. They didn't even have Mexican music on! I don't think I've been this offended by the service I've received in any restaurant for a long time. The food came out wrong (the salad didn't even have dressing) and was some of the most bland-tasting "cuisine" I have ever tasted. I'd bet dollars to donuts that my son gets better eats in his school cafeteria than I got last night. The food, however, was the least of the affront, as I was greeted by an incredibly unhappy staff that probably should have enjoyed their jobs a lot more given the fact that they are allowed to operate with almost no sense of professionalism or courtesy toward customers. While it's true that they almost all seemed to be teenagers, that doesn't account for their clear lack of training when it comes to dealing with their diners. Our waiter, some kid with a Beatles haircut and a bad attitude, was almost never present (they were not that busy, some rush but pretty standard for a restaurant at dinner time) and I overheard numerous members of the staff complaining about their jobs when they weren't texting on their cell phones. At one point, the most disheveled-looking busboy I've ever seen rushed by our table with feet so heavy we could hear our plates clattering as he shook the floor. He also gave my wife a look which she did not find very welcoming, to say the least. I get that it's a Mexican restaurant in a small town, but I still expect better service from really any location with that much staff and that much business. I visit relatives in Rayville every few weeks, and occasionally, we eat a meal at San Miguel. I've never gotten anything here that wasn't delicious. Confession: since discovering their sizzling beef steak fajitas, served perfectly seasoned with carmelized onions and peppers, in its own piping hot iron griddle, I simply can't bring myself to try anything else on their menu. It comes with soft tortillas, Mexican-style fresh veggies, sour cream/crema, and I think guacamole. I always envision responsibly eating just till I'm full, and then getting the rest to go. NOT! It's so good, I pig out , eat the whole thing, and wish it were bigger! And unlike many area mom n' pop restaurants, you can order a cold beer with your meal. Or sweet tea, whatever you prefer. We have relatives who say they routinely drive over an hour one way just to eat here, and the number of cars parked outside anytime they're open tells me a few others probably do the same. San Miguel is a real gem in a region where good restaurants are not the standard. read more
