You can feel the presence of the Lord when you enter this church. Right off the 10 fwy and Haven in Ontario, behind tall businesses is Secondo d' Asti Catholic Church. This is one of the few Catholic Churches in the LA region that hold low and high Latin masses. Love the option of many Mass times and confession half an hour before every Mass. The church has hosted relic exhibitions in the past and celebrate wonderful Christmas traditions such as the Mexican Posadas and the Filipino Simbang Gabi! This is the only church I know in this area that has a Simbang Gabi Mass at 9pm instead of 5am! Come tonight! Simbang Gabi is until Dec 23 and experience the true meaning of this season! The Mass is so beautiful with the 20 candle votives, and incense! The choir is amazing with the traditional Latin hyms! The church and mass are beautiful for sure , but what really stands out is reverence for the traditional and Latin Mass, the warmth and love from the parishioners and the leadership of Father Stanley! Mass here so special! FYI this is a very traditional church so kindly no please exposed arms or cleavage or short tight clothing in the church! This Church needs to have a big sign saying no crying children allowed inside. Especially if you have lots of children that are toddlers they are not kid friendly nor listen to Jesus that says "Let thy children come to me". THE PASTOR OF THIS CHURCH WANTS A QUIET EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDLESS FAMILIES, he even gave a 2 homily explaining how ppl drive far & we need to make it pleasant for them!! What about making it pleasant for families?! What happened to viewing kids crying as something closer to God than bothersome? This is the problem with our Catholic Church today viewing kids as bothersome rather than tolerating some cry's for our conversion. Viewing larger families as a negative thing in church then where do u want us? Home on Sundays because we rather do that than sit outside in the sun where they see nothing and it's pointless?! They want children outside under the tent where they can't even see Jesus or experience anything so how do you expect children to grow up knowing Him when you get kicked out if they make some noise?!!!!! When I talked to the Pastor he said he is sorry he doesn't have a cry room, Vatican II WOULD APPLAUD HIM for putting us families away in a quiet room. If Father Pio was here where he also had a small Church he would move all the kids to the front rows to experience Mass not to the last regardless of what others thought (since this pastor thinks he can't do this due to abuse demands so the fear is greater than the conversion here). I got humiliated with my 4 toddler boys by their main usher "Ben" in the most rude possible way. He didn't allow us to even get communion & of course the pastor kept stopping the consecration for other kids making noises. Where's the Pastors attention, on Jesus or us the public?! One of my kids had his cars just holding them not playing with them because he's under 4 with autism that doesn't understand what's going on but feels safe in public with a toy that's familiar to him. This man aka head usher takes me out of church and even thinks it's ok to grab my kid with the cars and take us to the parking lot and tells me why we are being kicked out when there were many other kids making noises and says no toys allowed. It's insane because my husband had already went outside with the kid that was making noises so for the usher to picked us out of the other families making noises when they weren't doing anything is just silly. I have noticed a decline of big families coming here not because it's small but because of their impatience with children. We will go back to driving far to Orange County for Latin Mass where they actually beg us to be inside with kids crying because they view this differently (u never know who needs to hearing a baby crying while Mass is happening for their own personal conversion story especially in this culture of death where babies and children are viewed as a cross rather than a gift). Parents reading this, don't get discouraged if you get kicked out. Keep taking ur kids to the churches that are okay with children because it's the only way for our children to grow knowing Jesus since they are small and never delay their first communions especially when they are asking at a young age go & look for those that don't have the age limits but recognize consciousness as a merit. read more

I went to this church today for my godson's baptism though I had been here a few weeks ago for the godparent class. It seems so out-of-place with the airport on one side and industrial buildings all around. This church is like a blast from the past. Very mission-like in appearance, it's very quaint and old-world looking. My boyfriend remarked that it looked like the Santa Barbara mission church in minature and I quite agree with him. I would have given this church three stars but it is quite a sight. It's a welcome change to the modernity of its surroundings. The resident priest is VERY strict, as are the parish rules. For the first time ever, I saw a poster outside a church with strict dresscode rules. It was a "huh?" moment for me. read more

Absolutely love this church! I grew up N.O. & had no idea about the TLM mass. The first few times I went it felt very different from what I was used to, and even out of place b/c I couldn't figure out what was appropriate to wear or not. But it's not that difficult, really. In any case, TLM's are hard to come by and am very grateful for this traditional church. Especially b/c when I first moved to the IE blessing my house with a N.O. Priest was not nearly enough for my family and I to live in peace. Father Stanley came over to exorcise my house, along w/an assistant. I honestly don't t know what my life would be like right now if it weren't for him. I was literally ready to go live in my car b/c living inside my house was a living nightmare. Wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. Confession here have also transformed my life. Not saying confession at any other church is invalid. But I do believe that traditional priests have a little extra grace for those of us who have personal struggles. These are my two cents. read more

Hands down, the best Catholic Church in probably California if not Southern California. It offers the Extraordinary Form and a very conservative ordinary form. Currently Fr Stanley is the adminintratoracico and he's very caring and humble. Fr Schmidt and Fr James Lane as well as visiting priest Fr Gino come to say the Latin Masses. The Latin Masses get quite full so arrive early to sit inside, otherwise, seating is outside which isn't bad since the gardens and front area are beautiful. Tradition and reverence are clearly exemplified at this parish. Modest attire and veils for women are common and encouraged. Mission like church in the middle of nowhere...what a gem of a church. knights of Columbus hosts breakfasts first of the month and other cool fundraisers like donuts, fish fry fridays during lent and family movies. Was staying in Ontario because of an event at Claremont McKenna College (Bishop Barron and William Craig - Conversation). Found this church for the 7 30 AM Sunday Mass. It reminded me of the many Franciscan mission churches I've been in Calif. And, the other Spanish churches I've visited in Spain, Panama and Columbia. The priest that celebrated the mass looked familiar - maybe a Norbertine that I had met a few years ago, but I did not get a chance to talk to him. The Liturgy was a mix of the vernacular (English) and songs/hymns in Latin. I was surprised at Communion time when the "choir" came for communion - maybe 5 or 6 women, two or three that looked like teens. No communion in the hand, here. Only on the tongue at the altar rail where communicants kneel. The location was like stepping into the past amidst the sounds of I - 10 freeway and the Ontario airport close by. Large commercial buildings and hotels close by. (I stayed at the Marriott Residence inn across from the Convention Center.) The attendance was a mix of more mature people as well as some young families. the church was comfortably full for the mass. Would definitely like to visit again when I have more time. read more

This parish along with st Joseph's in Pomona are my two favorites, as the priests along with the lay people have a deep reverence for the mass. Very traditional, catholic church. if you plan on attending mass or just a visit, they ask you to please dress appropriately and modestly. No sleevless tops, tight fitting or baggy clothing, and no skirts above the knee. It really is still a church where you would put on your Sunday best. The church itself is absolutely beautiful and very well kept. Arrive early for mass if you want to find a seat together and inside. I am new to the faith and trying different masses in the community to see which might become my regular church. I only attended here once, during a Sunday night service, and I just got a bad feeling from the place. It is an absolutely beautiful church. I was awestruck by the beauty and simplicity of the old church. But I didn't find it to be very welcoming. The "vibe" was very somber (during advent!), and very strict. Honestly after seeing the modesty notices out front before walking in, I spent most of the service worrying internally about disappointing the priests and parishioners even though I was more than appropriately dressed. After mass, I questioned the purpose of those rules, considering the company Christ Himself kept, but that's only a personal thought. As I said, I am new to the faith, and as I am still trying to find a home church I have not committed to any one RCIA program. So I am learning as I go here. The more I attend, the more I am picking things up, as for gestures, responses, etc, but this was the only Mass I've been to where I spent a lot of it in fear of messing up and being reprimanded. I can see how that environment appeals to some Catholics, and I respect their reverence. I just don't feel welcome and at home there. read more

I love the fact that there is a dress code although you wouldn't think that most adults have to be told to dress appropriately for mass but then again I guess some people have to be reminded. Be prepared that if you don't follow the guidelines you may be called out in the middle of mass, nothing against you but think of it your in God's house . We just love this church. Here you're asked to dress modestly, not to chew gum, turn off your cellphone and not to talk during mass. This is a great Catholic Church and parish and it all starts with Fr. Marx. He loves the Catholic faith and is not afraid to defend it nor to preach it. If you are looking for a Church that preaches and practices solid Catholic principles this is the place for you. If you are looking for a Church that just makes you feel comfortable in your sins or being a lax Catholic then this is definitely the Church you must attend even if you won't like it or if it will make you uncomfortable. The church is beautiful but Father Francis was the rudest priest I have ever met. For the past year my mother attended mass at San Secondo. We decided to have her funeral mass there. Father Francis reprimanded the entire church attendees. Most attendees were not Catholic but wanted to show their respects to my Mom. At one point during the Eucharist he referred to my Mom's coffin as "This." The few Catholic parishioners in attendance were truly unhappy with the service. This was a true display of how a church does not welcome anyone else other than their own. Very ugly experience that I hope no one ever has to go through. Very disappointed with the lack of compassion and sensitivity here. After my mother's funeral service it is safe to say I won't return. My mother's service was a very upsetting and uncomfortable experience for many who attended. Father Francis took the opportunity to proselytize with a 30 minute sermon that bordered on anti-semitism, judgment of the visible non-Catholics attending, and even sharing personal anecdotes with immature language which were very insensitive to those of us who were in mourning. It was a display of a lack of empathy to an assembly of people of many faiths, who came to honor a woman that they knew was truly devout in her faith. Tragic and advantageous. read more

After mass and outside the church, I have found so many kind people at the parish offering to help me (I am disabled and really need help). I once noticed a young woman with a very short skirt almost ready to leave. I asked her to stay because she obviously was embarrassed when she realized she wasn't dressed modestly. This is an ideal parish. It's one of the few Roman Catholic parishes that didn't change too much after Vatican II: no guitar-and-drums Mass, ad orientam, no clapping during Mass, people wear their Sunday best, the homilies are meaningful, only the priests administer the Eucharist, the tabernacle is kept front and centre, many of the women veil, there are many confessions throughout the week (including before Mass), and they offer Latin Mass in addition to English. The architecture is phenomenal, and you can feel the strong presence of God inside. Sure, the priests and the dress code can be strict at times. But it's all out of reverence and keeps us focused on what really matters. read more

This is the most reverent Church I have ever been to in my life! As a convert, I was ecstatic to find a Church that truly cares about keeping Christ at the center of the Mass. The people are warm, and it's great to see so many young people/families that care about Church values. The homilies are a bit long, but they are very inspirational and incredibly educational. They do daily Mass and daily confessions and really care about the souls of the parishioners. I wish all other Churches would copy the model of reverence you see here. read more

I went to this church because my dad had passed away and we held his viewing and rosary here. first of all, let me just say that I was very disappointed in how we were treated. the priest who was supposed to have lead the rosary was recovering from a cold. and believe me, he let us know this after he informed us that there was to be no gum chewing or cell phone use in his church. come on............we are all adults.........and, im sorry, but your cold doesn't trump my father's viewing and rosary. he also further informed us all that he was not going to recite the entire rosary because we were all Mexicans and we should know the rosary. WHAT?!?!?!? the next day, the same priest gave my father's mass in slide type sandals and went to the cemetery in the same sandals and a yellow jacket type wind breaker. I can't even tell you how inappropriate this priest was. out of respect, we said nothing. my aunt, who doesn't speak a word of English, did a better job at reciting the rosary than I think that priest ever could. with respect for the catholic church as a whole, and being that I attended catholic school for 12 years, when did this priest elevate himself to the level of God??? be advised......................this church is definitely not what it seems. had that been a relative of this priests, how would he have felt if he had been treated the way he treated us? so much for do unto others as you would have them do unto you........................ ps-it hasn't even been a week that we visited here. my father's viewing was on sunday evening, 12/9 and his mass was on 12/10 in the morning. read more

Fr. Marx is one of the most dedicated pastors I have ever seen. Even when he had double pneumonia a few years ago he still dragged himself in to hear confession and celebrate that early AM mass. He is exceptional and the only reason there is any Tridentine Mass at all in the Diocese of San Bernardino is because of Fr. Marx' efforts. I really don't understand the complaints about gum chewing in church--it's completely disrespectful and childish behavior and I wish more priests would call people on it. If you want to dress in shorts or gym clothes, chew gum, text during the homily, in general act like a spoiled brat, Guasti is not the parish for you, but there are other parishes where lukewarm, casual worship is the norm. read more

My Husband and I and our 3 children, ages 2, 8 and 9 went to Latin Mass on a Sunday evening. It was my first Latin Mass and the night was a disaster! We were at least 15 minutes late due to an accident on the freeway, then just before communion my 9 year old daughter almost fainted and ended up vomiting all over the floor including the kneeler and had to run out the door accompanied by my husband. I was so embarrassed. Everyone was so kind, understanding and helpful, even cleaning up the mess! We will definitely be back. The best church, Mass and people ever! Went to this church today and was impressed by the reverence and kindness the parish has. There are lots lof families with children. Many of the women even wear head coverings like mantillas, hats or scarves, confession is in a confessional that allows anonymity, there is a dress code, there is organ music, latin, and the best part is the focal is a crucifix for the Mass! What a treasure! This little church was originally built as a place of Catholic worship for the Italian grape field owner = Guasti, and the workers. This is a beautiful very traditional Catholic church. The priests and parishioners are passionate about their faith and love of God. The sermons are very informational, well planned and tend to be long. Out of respect for God, modest Sunday attire is requested to be worn. A sign at the entrance to the church says something to the effect of: No sleeveless or low-cut tops. No shorts, No T-shirts , No jeans, No skirts above the knee. No tight fitting or baggy, falling off your bottom clothing. Girls and women are asked to wear modest dresses or skirts and blouses with sleeves . Men are asked to wear dress slacks and shirts with a collar, or suit and tie. Confessions are heard before each mass at the confessionals in the back of the church. Be prepared to wait in line. People are asked to refrain from visiting while in the church out of respect for others who are there to pray. There are many families that attend the mass with several well -behaved children. It is amazing to see even a two and a half-year-old child remain mostly quiet during the mass. Extra prayers are often said at the end of mass. Prayer cards in the pews are available to help you read along with the extra prayers. A traditional Latin mass is said every Sunday at 10:30am. It was nice to see so many Catholics dedicated to their faith and holding fast to traditional family values. The church was so packed that people were sitting in rows of folding chairs outside the church where outdoor speakers allowed you to hear the mass. Get there early if you want a seat inside. It is important for Catholics to know that despite what the world of television and media are trying to push, Catholics need to hold fast to The Word of God, the Mass and our traditional faith. It is worth going to this church to visit and honor God, to help bring yourself back to the basic fundamental truth and to find inner peace and love through Jesus Christ and his community of followers. read more

My fiance and I wanted to visit a Latin Mass. I had prior exposure to the music and language of the Latin Mass by singing the Bernstein Mass while she had no experience with the Latin Mass whatsoever. The only masses we have attended have been Masses in English. We researched online for Latin Masses in San Bernardino county. We stumbled upon San Secondo in Guasti. We were shocked to find out that this church has a dress code. In most of the Catholic churches we have visited there was no dress code and a whosoever may come is welcome in response to God's love and grace. The dress code was a sign that San Secondo was leaning in the more traditionalist direction. We attended a 9 o clock English mass followed by a 10:30. When we arrived at the church nobody in the parish community bothered to greet us or welcome us, and nobody talked to us. The welcome was non existent and they did not see in visitors the face of Christ in each person. Prior to worship, and when we sat in our pews, we gazed at the beauty of this church including the stations of the cross on either wall and the stained glass above the altar. The music and liturgy were well done in both services, and the preaching is good too. However, we were disappointed in the English service when woman were expected to wear veils or hats, and when they were denied the opportunity to serve Christ's church through reading scripture, leading the prayers of the people or serve as altar girls. We sensed that there was a strong patriarchal presence in this parish and runs contrary to the teachings of Jesus. When it came time for the Eucharist all were welcomed to partake but I was disappointed when there was a wafer but no wine. The Latin Mass was stunningly beautiful but we felt so lost trying to follow the missal. There were a few parts of the liturgy we were able to understand like the Kyrie, the Gloria, dominus vobiscum. On a scale of 1 to 10 with ten being best, 1 being worst and 5 being average, I would rate the liturgy at San Secondo an 8 or 9. However, the experience of church and hospitality at San Secondo I would rate a 1. My fiance and I prefer the Vatican II Catholic experience in English that is truly egalitarian and welcoming. read more
