Night out in LA…read more Parking: Welcome to LA where finding a parking spot sucks a--. Highly recommend getting dropped off or carpooling. We got lucky with steering parking two streets away. Ambiance/Environment: Looove the vibes here. They have a small space, so it can get hot real quick. They'll check IDs at the entrance. There's in n out privileges until a certain time. Music: If you're into house music, then this is the lounge for you. They have different DJs during each set. Drinks: They offer beer, cocktails, and wine. I don't remember the names of the beer, but it did the job lol. The Mango Sticky Rice cocktail was really strong; I enjoyed it!

You're here to stay and savor the experience. OC holds no flame to these LA vibes. Lots of cool people, they carry local beers and the bartender can serve up some awesome drinks. Do some street parking, check out Chinatown in all its old glory before the gentrification takes over.

Hell yeah! Came…read morehere on a Friday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Street parking was a little difficult to find but not impossible. There was a cover charge (~$12) and drinks weren't cheap but reasonably priced. There are two floors and each floor has its own dance floor.. they played a lot of alternative 80/90s. Small smoking patio in the front and clean bathrooms. We had a blast! HBD Andrew!

I'll start by saying, this place isn't fancy at all, and there are a few blemishes but does that…read morematter? Absolutely not! This place is amazing and has a great vibe! Inka One has been running BoomBox LA for about 18 years, and Grand Star Jazz Club is fortunate to host this iconic hip hop event that has been around for nearly two decades. You can catch legendary DJs like the Beat Junkies, Shortkut, 9th Wonder, Lord Finesse, House Shoes, DJ Revolution, and many more every first Saturday of the month. Drinks are served on both the first and second floors, each offering different music and vibes. The drinks are a bit light, which is perfect for me since I'm a lightweight. They don't serve food, but there are some great late-night spots nearby, like Hollywood Thai or Bossa Nova. If you're looking for a place to relax, listen to good music without distractions, and just vibe out, Grand Star hosts one of the coolest events in their venue. OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros

If you want a better view and less crowd, there's a second floor that you can check out. First time coming to this place and we got to see Isaiah Rashad! It was my gf first time going to a rap concert, so we had to pull up to support one of my favorite upcoming artist! The whole night was lit! How the place is set up is pretty organized. The only thing that sucked was finding parking, but getting parking in LA sucks. You do what you gotta do though lol. When we got in, we immediately went to the merch shop to get a shirt and then walk over to the bar which was on the other side. We both ordered a tequila sunrise and it was pretty strong. The bartender lady poured it fat, lol.

First off, the parking situation is a nightmare so you better be down to uber if you want any prayer of getting there otherwise you'll be circling the block for 30+ minutes trying to find a spot. Second, the beer was way over priced. You're looking at $17 + tip for a decent sized beer, or paying $11 for a cheap can. That's like Coachella pricing, absolute robbery. Third and probably the biggest turn off, was that the second the last band played their last note, the bar immediately closed and started kicking people out. No final call, no grace period to hang out, just gtfo. Zero hospitality. Overall, I liked the space itself, especially the upstairs lounge / balcony area, but the cons just far outweigh the pros with this place. Logistically terrible location and zero hospitality to speak of paired with overly expensive drinks and not particularly friendly staff did not make me want to come back here. There are far better venues in LA.

Visited The Regent to see Margaret Cho host Asian Nation for Netflix Is a Joke fest…read more Parking: Located on a one-way street with several cash only $25 parking lots across from the venue (red and white signs that say Joe's Parking). The venue is located in DTLA on skid row... If you park nearby in one of the lots and stick to walking back and forth from the venue, you'll be okay. Don't recommend walking around this area especially if you're by yourself. Food: The food was scrumptious at the adjacent Prufrock Pizzeria. I would come back to this venue just to eat there beforehand. Service: It would've been nice if the venue employee was more proactive, there was a gaggle of people blocking the walkway and it took him a minute to tell them to move. After that, he just stared blankly at us after that until I asked where our assigned seats were. Ambiance: The actual venue was nice. It was intimate and you can see the performer even if you're in the back. We were on the right side towards the front, a few rows back. I appreciated that the mic level wasn't too loud even though we sat in front of the speaker; sometimes at comedy events it feels like the mic is SO LOUD that I have to wear earplugs. At this venue, the noise level was perfect.

The whole place smells like urine and feces because of this. They'll only let you in when "they're ready" so if you're there before showtime, they force you into some filthy bar attached to the venue (which stinks of the aforementioned body fluids). They only have one bartender, and he's surly and lousy. Then they herd you like cattle into their dumpy venue. The staff is rude, and the whole place is rundown. The acoustics are garbage. The sloping floor will make your legs ache for days. It has no vintage charm, it's just a dirty armpit. It's hot as hell, with no ventilation. Prepare to be unsafe. The security is trash- two fights broke out when I was there, and they took forever to react and hustle people out. After I finally escaped, I found that the $25 I paid to park in the lot across the street was completely useless, because a hobo broke into my car and took a dump! Hate isn't a strong enough word for The Regent. This craphole deserves to burn down.
