Visited Sanctuary Comics today on a Saturday. It's out of the way so we thought we would be the only ones there today. However, Secrets of Strixhaven came out yesterday as the new set for retail. The shop was full of people and product. I have never been in a store so chock-full of product on sale. It had the vibe of an old hold in the wall library. In the back of the store was where the shop owner stood to take orders of cards and packs. He had literally every set of Magic Card packs I had ever heard of, which is definitely different than other stores. The prices were decent for them as well. Awful customer service. The person behind the counter could have cared less if we were there or not. We were visiting the area and made a special trip out of our way to come here. My boyfriend was excited about this place and had every intention of spending some money there but left empty handed because we felt so unwelcome. A shame because they have some really cool stuff. read more

Ok first off, the proprietor wasn't rude per se, but he seemed like he would have rather been anywhere than running a comic shop. If you don't like dealing with the public, perhaps a life in retail is not for you. The place itself is cramped. I liken it to the trash compactor scene in Star Wars. There are random piles of boxes, loose books, and totes in the already narrow aisles making it a difficult task to shop for comics. The comics themselves are all placed in alphabetized short boxes that are stacked upwards of 6 feet high on individual shelves. The boxes each have their lids on them so you have to pull each box down to look inside. Each box is packed so tight though, that you almost can't look through them without taking some out first. I didn't even bother with the bottom shelf if there was a randomly stacked pile of odds n ends in the way. The prices? Non-existent. The owner apparently looks up each book on Ebay for sold comps and goes with the highest price he can find. My son left most of the books he brought up to the register behind. And these weren't the latest hot speculator books. They were random All-Star Squadron books that sold for $7 the last four times they were purchased, though he went with the $15 sale even further back. The thing I take most offense to is that he doesn't look at the condition of the book he is looking up. He just looks up the price. Needless to say, when I got home and found that one of the corners of the $4 I bought was completely wrinkled, I realized the book was probably worth a buck at best. I can't imagine what he would charge for a damaged book that is expensive to start with. Would he even take that into consideration? We drove two hours to check this shop out and ended up spending more on gas than I did at the store. Total waste of our time. Bottom Line : I would not recommend this store to anyone looking for comics or fair pricing. read more

Great selection. Cool store. Lots of graphic novels. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

They have a policy of 50% store credit on trade-ins. I've gone in there a few times but don't frequent as a weekly regular because it's out of the way. Today I actually had a longer conversation with the owner and wasn't impressed at all. Brought in books to trade in for store credit. Offered me a lot lower than expected. I tried to haggle only for him to respond with "you don't frequently spend money here enough to help me stock." When in fact at least half of my trade ins have been purchased there. Also that depreciates the value of the trade ins? I Refuse to spend anymore money there. If he'd honestly kept his mouth shut or made another offer alittle higher I'd of taken it no problem. It'd be a nice store if the owner didn't have this type of attitude. If you don't like your own policy don't offer it. read more

Drove for an hour to visit this shop this morning. I was super excited to browse the inventory and outfit my children with 5th edition D&D gear. I haven't played in 25 years but purchased the Starter Box last week to give us something new to do over the holidays. We played our first game this weekend and they took a keen interest in wanting to learn more. I planned to purchase a few Player's Handbooks, some dice so they could each have their own, a DM's Guide and maybe a few extras just for fun. We couldn't even get past "The Guardian of the Deep", who stood with his arms across his chest in the doorway with a scowl on his face like our arrival was the most inconvenient thing...ever. I've never felt so unwelcome at a business. When he quoted 49$ for a 22$ Player's Handbook, as I stood in the parking lot, I said goodbye as politely as I could considering how upset and surprised I was about the rude behavior. This place gets a lot of good reviews and no mention was made on any website that they were curbside only until after our visit. (Convenient, eh?). So, we went home and spent I spent 200$ on Amazon, bought all I needed (and more!) for my family and I to enjoy many D&D adventures. Never again will I visit this run-down, dirty looking shop thanks to the goblin guarding the door. At least we can say we tried to shop local! read more
