It deserves all five stars as Yvonne and Ray, the owners, have accommodation to offer that is as good, if not better, than any 5* hotel. The rooms are very spacious, are full en-suite and spotless. Parking is safe and free and there is a free wifi internet service available. Situated in an exclusive avenue that leads to a cul de sac ensured that our sleep was undisturbed and as for the breakfasts - they exceeded all expectations in both choice and quality. This would be a good base to explore the Jurassic coast from, whether by bus or car. There is a steam railway to Swannage from where you can take an open topped bus tour to Bournemouth. There is excellent walking in all directions from the castle and there is good eating in the village. We will certainly return.

The tickets cost Adult £4.50 Child £2.50 Seniors & Students £4.00 with a Free Return Visit which is brilliant value. There is a lovely little cafe which is comfortable and reasonably priced where you can get a little cake and some tea or coffee etc. There is also a nicely stocked gift shop selling memorabillia to do with the show. I bought the dvd as it's so amazing. The shows last 40 minutes, Daytime Shows are 10 am, 11 am, 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm. It's open Open 7 days a week including Public Holidays from late January through mid December. There is a huge car park for cars and coaches, plenty of disabled parking with ramp access. Inside it's easily accessible for wheelchairs with disabled toilets and wide entry ways. The theatre is easy to find as it is just next to the large Tesco just south of Ryde. The show itself is a magical, memorable feast of water, music and light, you will never forget it and needless to say you will want to go again and again, children will be amazed as will adults alike. Water dances and comes alive to music from bangs such as the Beatles, Queen through to modern groups and classical. I don't know anyone who's been to this and been disappointed.

Situated on the main road about 2 minutes walk from the edge of the old town going away from Shanklin the cottages are ideally located for holiday makers of all ages. The complex (converted in part from a private girls school) comprises a number of cottages (mostly terraced although we didn't notice any noise from adjoining properties) of varying sizes and then a number of apartments. All properties have their own balconies and/or patios. We stayed in a 2 bed cottage and I was very pleased with the space and the fitting out of the cottage. Everything we could have wanted for (and more) was provided and the whole was spotlessly clean. There were a few areas that would have benefited from a little bit of re-decoration but nothing that was really wanting. The properties were double glazed and appeared fairly secure. The pool, although small, was clean and well maintained. There was a small Jacuzzi. The pool lacked any changing facilities but its situation meant that this wasn't really an issue. There is also a sauna and beauty treatments were available on request. The gym comprised a running machine, a couple of bikes and a multi-gym. A £5 deposit was payable for a key for the multi-gym (the peg that separates the weights). The children's play area was well equipped with Little Tykes climbing toys (and slides), a play house and a lego table. A pool table, air hockey and table football (the latter free of charge) were available for older children and adults. Outside, there was a splash pool, ideal for children, and a tropical garden with loungers and shades. The outdoor play park was rather overgrown and the only part of the facilities that was poor with much maintenance being required. The tennis court was adequate and reasonably maintained and balls/rackets were available from reception. If you'd forgotten your bucket and spade these could be borrowed free of charge from reception also!

The winning reason to stay at this hotel though is definitely the food. Located in Whitley Ridge Hotel is Le Poussin, the michelin starred restaurant. The food is unbelievable and not of a bad price. Intimate dining at its best. The bar is also cosy and drinks are expensive but this isn't unusual for the New Forest. Definitely worth a visit.

I attended a wedding here…read more First when making the booking as per the wedding rate, they confirmed over the telephone, and confirmed different details by e-mail. I had to chase them to get the right details. When booking in, I said I would pay for both rooms. They required a credit card, which was fine, and then asked for another for the other room. I got them to finally understand I was paying for both rooms. I have no problem with hotels employing Eastern European staff, but those on the reception desk must have a good command of the English language. The room was OK, not brilliant, but OK. It is a 3 star after all. The en-suite was quite big, and designed for the disabled. Requested the use of an iron and ironing board, after three requests it finally arrived. The ironing board was stained, and it was only when I was using it to iron my sons new shirt that I realised that the stain was coming through onto the shirt. I was livid. I managed to disguise it as best as I could. Children can only eat in the restaurant before a certain time, and I think it was 5:30 pm, not absolutely sure of the time, but it was difficult for us. So we ate out. The arrangements for the wedding were very good, and the food was fine. Breakfast was something else. Waiting too long, and there was only three tables being used, so not rushed off their feet. One of the waitresses was sullen, and almost dropped the plate in front of you. They were less than attentive. It is not a hotel I'd choose to stay at if visiting Bournemouth again.

There is a sweeping driveway, which makes for great photo opportunities as the students arrive for their ball. The gardens are exquisite and the entrance to the hotel truly romantic. Except it's not the entrance. You have to drive to the back of the hotel on Grove Road. The 'front' of the hotel overlooks the sea. This hotel is very tasteful with out being overly grand. I'd love to stay there sometime.

The hotel is a little old-fashioned, but pleasant enough in its chintzy kind of way. The staff are always friendly and breakfast is great. The rooms are fairly sized and good value for money. I always try to get into this hotel when i visit Bournemouth but is always booked up, so must be popular!
