Came with a group. It was my first time trying Sandbox. Since a lot of us had tried VR games with zombie themes, we went with the Squid games one. We got sensors on our left and right wrists, and ankles. For those that had glasses, we had to were the googles over our glasses which we were advised could interfere with some of the sensors in the eyes but overall, they were fine. Although we put them in place at the outset, all those with glasses all agreed that the googles still moved regardless of how tight we had them. Overall though, the googles didn't interfere too much with the game. For those familiar with Squid Game, it followed a similar pattern where we played group games to win individual points. It was a really fun theme, especially for those of us that don't like zombie pop ups. Lots of feet and hand movements. We really appreciated that right after the game is over, they led us to the back to show us three clips about our experience. The clip was also emailed directly to us right away. A really fun activity with a group. Would definitely do this again, and... perhaps won't be so nice with sharing info about certain aspects. Every man for themselves right? read more

This is my second time at Sandbox and both times it has been amazing. The virtuality reality experience is unexplainable, you have to try it! We tried the deadwood mansion one where zombies are attacking you. It feels even more real because you have sensors that vibrate when you are hit or being attacked. I would play over and over. I also want to mention that the customer service is incredible. They are kind and friendly, and truly care about you having an amazing experience. I would recommend this to everyone! read more

I really would like to give a better rating to this place. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't that great. First of all, the jacket was not light and it gets heavier when your teammate's computer needed a reboot during the game. All of us were just standing there, staring at a pausing screen for 15 mins, waiting for a "fix". After the PC finally rebooted and fixed, the players played next door had started their game, so we kept hearing loud screams that pulled us out of our scene in the second half of our game. Second, my friend's wrist band was loosen during the game and the crew didn't even notice. She had to speak very loud to get attention and trying to hold the gadget directly during the game. I compared several VR stores and decided this one because of the perfect reviews. we came all the way from Seattle. But this is definitely not the quality that we expected. Tbh the game itself should have been great, delicate scene, beautiful rendering. Hoping the crew could have paid more attention during the game to make the experience great as well. read more

My 12 year old son and friends had a great time! The staff were helpful, especially with the equipment. There is a lot of gear to put on, and since it's 30 minutes from the time you enter the room, all 4-5 staff members come in to help to get stuff on quickly. The fan effects were cool and the kids were really immersed in the experience. Will be back! Suggestions - start the 30 minutes from the time the game starts rather than when we enter the room and have to get all the gear on. The kids wanted more time. We arrived early but the overall game experience was probably 20 minutes. - Try to put other groups in farther away rooms if possible. We can hear the screams from next door. read more

I love VR ...and it's even better when it's incredibly realistic and you can do it with a group of friends. Sandbox offers 3 different games and they have different room sizes available as well to accommodate groups ranging from 3-6. We played in a group of 6 and while the room was quite large, we were restricted to a certain space within that room that wasn't as spacious and we bumped into each other a bit. The staff are incredibly helpful getting you suited up, which actually takes some time doing, so get there early. Love the recap afterwards where you watch video clips of how you all look hitting imaginary things with all your VR gear on and they do a great job with editing these video clips to incorporate the game play in there as well. These clips are sent to you. While you play, you can also leave your phone with the staff and they can record the experience for you as well, which they do an amazing job of. The only deterrent to us not doing this more often is the cost. At $45 for an hour, it's a bit pricy. Ample free parking outside. read more

My friends and I played Davie Jones and it was crazy! We had no idea what this was all about, but it definitely exceeded our expectations. Ian (one of the owners) was super helpful and patient with the instructions and putting on our gear. I felt a bit nauseous during the game and Ian was very attentive. He immediately helped me off the platform, removed my headset, and got some water. Even though I'm super sensitive to motion sickness, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and would be interested in trying a different theme! We have six of us and did the Amber Sky. It was a lot of fun, even for me who doesn't play video games. The graphic is amazing. The instruction very straight forward even for a first timer like me. It's easy to catch on and before you know, your mind is already in character. The staff is friendly and helpful. They did a good job prepping us before. While the VR experience was very cool we had some issues and did not feel like the staff were attentive. 1.During set-up we all mentioned that the earphones for one of the participants was not working. The attendant continued starting the game regardless. We assumed they would fix it and did not. 2. One of our participants had major lag with their VR headset. They could only look directly in front of them. The sides were all black. Unfortunately they were not able to have this fixed This could be a very cool experience for all and I think with a little more communication from the staff and more attention to our concerns when raised, it could be more positive. With all that being said i will come back to try the different games and hope to have a better experience. read more

Incredibly immersive, unbelievably fun This is one of those things where you really have to experience it to understand how much fun it is. Unlike other VR in town, this place goes beyond individual play so that you collaborate with a group of friends in order to beat the game. Mechanics like - placing your hand on to your teammates' shoulder to heal them, dodging lasers, crouching for a better line of sight- were particular impressive. We played Deadwood Mansion and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were incredibly helpful in setting us up and debriefing us after the game. I have been to the other VR places in Richmond/Vancouver and Sandbox is so far above them. I went with a group of 6 and did their zombie experience and it was so amazing. The customer service is as good as it gets and they really bring the experience the a new level. The equipment is all well kept and extremely clean. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. I was looking to try VR for some time. Checked out one of the other VR places where you have one player per room and laughed as players were yelling from one room to the other. At Sandbox, you are all in the same room. You have a choice of groups of 3, 4, 5 or 6. You have motion capture sensors on your wrists and ankles. From what I can tell, the sensors have small rods and balls sticking out at different angles and distances, no more than 2-3 inches. Each sensor has spots for I believe about a dozen rods and balls but there are actually only have about 5-6 on each. I'm guessing that the combination on each sensor is unique as you can accommodate up to six guests and the computer needs to differentiate between not only each player but each body part. Each player has sensors on each wrist and ankle and one of the googles. They also need sensors for each weapon. The rendering is based upon five points of reference and estimates the body position based upon those reference points and basic human physiology. The sensor on the googles are actually used to calibrate your approximate height. With the full body rendering, the computer is able to show your position in the room related to each other in the VR image with a high degree of accuracy. The VR is quite impressive. Of course the renderings are animated but it tracks your motion against the VR very accurately. You also wear a vest and a backpack that contains a laptop that send the image to the VR googles. You wear headphones and a mike so that you can hear and speak to each other without yelling. Nice touch. I believe that the headphones also provide a degree of spatial orientation as well. The vest are a little similar to the vest you wear in laser tag in that they vibrate when you are struck to indicate that you are taking damage. This helps as sometimes you are so engaged by the image in front of you that you are unaware of taking damage from behind or below. The VR image also shows a red border on the floor around the outside, so you don't run into the walls. Its not distracting but obvious enough. Should any of your sensors, including your weapon sensor, cross the border, a red lattice appears in front of your face. That way you know exactly when you are over the safety border even if you are concentrating on the image and threats. Problem is that you need to step back slightly as it does interfere with the image. It's like having a red chain link fence obstructing your view. We chose Curse of Davy Jones based upon all of the recommendations that it is the most interesting and has a few more tasks as a group rather than just shooting. There are attacks from very short creatures so you can actually kick them as well. Slight motion sickness but not bad. Adventure takes about 20 minutes. Arrive early to fill out waiver forms. It take about 10-15 minutes to set up including putting on all sensors, vest, backpack, googles, earphones and choosing your character and receiving weapons. After they provide a rendering of the images seen based upon the adventure and showing the actual image for you to watch and a link is e-mailed to you. It's only about 2 minutes but it is funny to watch. My son's character had a peg leg so in the beginning he was physically balancing on one leg to see what it looked like. The room also had fans which were incorporated into the VR experience, luckily no water spray for Davy Jones although that would make it interesting but would have probably shorted out the equipment. Despite the 3D VR images you see in your google, you can still run into each other if you step backwards or turn quickly without looking first. To heal players that die, you have to physically touch them. It's easy to tell when you die as the image becomes black and white. Also the character that die in your VR image turns black and white. Its funny when one player dies and everyone runs over and touches them. Happened to us once and I think we overloaded the system or dropped a sensor as the player's view was from the floor looking up even though they were physically still standing. Staff was really good. Watching them run around between rooms and setting up the next groups and keeping everything running smoothly. Would definitely do it again and try the other adventures. Price is about right. Not cheap but no prohibitively expensive. read more

Make sure to pop some gravol or put on a transderm V patch to avoid motion sickness. We did the haunted house one and it was a blast - not gonna give too much away but be prepared to be scared. Incredibly fun experience. Went with a group of three and played the zombie mode. Unlike some similar experiences, the set-up was short and they don't coddle you too much. You get there, put the sensors and gear on, and get right into it. The gameplay was impressive and immersive, and was a great challenge. We were laughing and screaming the entire game. I went in with high expectations and it definitely did not disappoint, even exceeded them! Staff was welcoming and friendly the moment my friends and I entered and all instructions and assistance always came with a smile. The VR experience itself was incredible, especially when our group of friends got to work together and enjoy the exact same thing virtually. It was nothing short of screams and excitement. We got to sit down in a seperate area afterwards to watch the playbacks and laugh at how funny we all looked during the game. They even sent us a copy for keepsake. Loved this experience and it's so worth going and checking it out! The staff are super nice and friendly. We went as a group of four, which was the perfect size. I would recommend that you spend the time listening to the instructions and adjust your headgear so that everything is in focus because for me it was not and wasn't as cool-but still super awesome.
