We have rented with guidance from Sand Dollar. Their arrangement was great in every respect. We later searched for a house to buy with their help. Their guidance was the best we found among the 5 agents we have dealt with in purchasing our series of 5 houses over the years. Sand Dollar has since managed our house when we're not using it. They have succeeded in helping us to keep it neat and clean. They have arranged renters who take good care of the house. They fix all the things that could be problems. If looking for a house to rent for summer vaca, do not use Sand Dollar Real Estate on Dyke Road, Kennebunkport, Maine. They are only interested in protecting the owners and themselves and they do not operate honorably for the renter. The homes are not represented properly online or by phone inquiry nor well cared for. When we asked for some compensation back we were told we could leave (vs. I'm sorry and let me discuss with the owner....even just say it and fake it! But not even that consideration). Their reputation precedes themselves. Sand Dollar is known for taking ANY rental, regardless of condition. We have been renting houses in the area for more than 30 years. Go direct to owners on VRBO or contact Maritime Realty, Beachwood Realty. We are posting this because we were taken advantage of this year. So, if a family that has been coming here for more than 30 years and knows what is out there can be treated badly. Imagine what the first timers will get. read more

Couldn't disagree more with the first reviewer!!!! The house we rented was not only disgusting but the customer service from Candice was worse. We rented 4 different places through this agent for a week last August for a family reunion. The home I rented was the Carrick house on the beach at goose rocks. The location is perfect, however that is it! We arrived late Saturday. Trash from previous tenants overloaded the bins outside. Garage is locked so you can't put inside. Animals ripped it to shreds and had to start our vacation picking up the front lawn. When my daughter went to shower the handle pulled out of the wall. Called and the agency came and fixed it. The house itself was filthy. Dishwasher was filled with dirty dishes, as was all the cabinets. Called Candice again and she did offer to send a cleaning crew for the day,however we had a family picture planned and decided we could not waste an entire day while they cleaned a house that should have been cleaned before we got there. Ended up buying plastic utensils and plates to use for the week. Brought my own sheets but so much sand in the beds it came right through. Carpet throughout is extremely old and smelled of mildew. This intensified DRASTICALLY when a major storm went through. We had to close the windows, and the mildew smell was so bad my children were having coughing attacks. Trash was never picked up so my husband put it in the basement so animals wouldn't get to it. Smell from the mold/mildew in the basement is DANGEROUS and should be addressed!!!! Candice informed me it wasn't a problem!! I disagree!!That night fought with a skunk who was in the basement trying to get into the kitchen. Woke to an entire house that was sprayed by the skunk,because it was stuck down there. We had called Candice AGAIN (third time in the week with issues) She said she would get an exterminated over the following day. In the mean time she sent her assistant over to help with the smell. When she arrived,she asked for the biggest pots we had so she could boil vinegar. When I went under the filthy cabinets I found a pasta pot, unfortunately it was filled with crusted old pasta stuck to it. Her assistant couldn't have been lovelier. She spent hours boiling vinegar to try to get the skunk smell out and repeatedly apologized for the state of the home. Candice was planning on sending the exterminator over on Friday. We hadn't heard the skunk,so I told her not to bother,we were leaving early Saturday, she could do it then. When we checked out from this horrible vacation, Candice couldn't have been more combative. (How those girls work for her is beyond me! They are far to nice!) Her reasoning was that it was an old house.(Old is fine,filthy is not!!) She informed me there IS wildlife in Maine( thanks for the info, but I prefer my wildlife OUTSIDE the home!) When asking for a refund she told me it was like going to a restaurant,eating the food and THEN saying it wasn't good. Funny I thought the 3 calls during the week would tip her off. Our family spent A LOT of money on this house as well as the other 3 we rented. One would think she would be a little more professional. read more
