A very good tour today from Brian as we spent three hours together touring Prague and pointing out many of the sites. He moved swiftly through the spots but still stopped often and detailed the cultural highlights of this part of the old town. You're not going to see everything in three hours but you will definitely have the opportunity to get your bearings, see the big sites and have a scratch at this wonderful city. Brian was fun and entertaining, the tour was a blast and at the end we still had 25 of the 30 people. That's a pretty good turnout. This was my NINTH Sandeman's tour after Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Madrid, Brussels, Copenhagen, and Porto. Definitely one of the better ones! Took the Kutna Hora church day tour from Prague. From 10 am to 5 pm It's about 2 hours round trip on the bus & the rest dedicated to the attractions, site visits & lunch. The definite highlight was the Kutna Hora (Bone) church although we ended up visiting a few churches. Lunch at Dacicky was very good. You had your choices from pork knuckle to Duck to Beef Cheeks & some vegetarian options. Our guide Brandon was awesome! He was very knowledgeable & had some great stories & took care of us. If you are lucky enough to get Brandon, make sure you get his Prague list of recommendations for restaurants, attractions, etc. There were about 20 in the tour group and a second in Spanish tour group-so total about 40 on a coach bus. Bring your walking shoes as we walked to all the sites after we visited the church. ( & their is about a 15 minutes walk from Old town center to the bus) A great way to see some of the sites outside of Prague. Would highly recommend Brandon & Sandeman's. read more

Seriously the best free tour I've ever been on. They do such a great job of showing you all the major sites in the city and giving you some history. Make sure you check the times on their website and get there a little early and be prepared for a ton of walking. The free tour was so good that I actually went on their paid tour of Kutna Hora which was incredible. It's decently priced and well worth it as it would be hard to navigate on your own. They also take you to a fantastic restaurant at the end of the tour where you can get some authentic Czech food. read more

Prague is a walking city. So what better way to get acquainted -- or learn more about its history -- then by taking a free walking tour? Sandeman's is a company I trust at this point. Their guides are typically very knowledgeable and welcoming. I had been in Prague for nearly three months by the time I took this tour with a group of friends. It was fairly valuable to learn about architecture and monuments that don't have obvious meanings, as well as to take a walk through Old Town Square. Our tour brought us to the river's edge, where some could choose to take a castle tour after if they wanted to. Our tour was held on a beautiful day. I will say it was often hard to hear the guide speak, as the group was too big and his voice didn't reach far. That's the only reason for a docked star. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend this tour company for Prague or any other city where they're available. read more

I did the old town tour with Lyle a few days again and I'm SO impressed! People (myself included) threw all kinds of questions at him and he had answers, which shows that he really knows his stuff. I've done free walking tours in the past where the guide was okay, and the tour was fine, but it's clear that Lyle is passionate about this city! The tour was paced really well and I feel like I learned so much that I otherwise wouldn't have known! We were lucky enough to find this tour from Yelp. When I was reading the reviews, I couldn't believe that there are free tours being offered. Carlos was our tour guide for the Old Town Prague tour.. He was very informative and nice... He gave us tips about exchange places and taxis that as tourists we would have never known... I can just sit here and type for 3 hours of what we went over and what rich information we learned from this guided tour... Make sure that you get to the meeting place, in this case by the Cartier store in Old Town square, 30 mins earlier than the tour's start time.. Because it fills up fast.... Besides that, get ready to enjoy 3 hours of guided tour. There is a break in between where you get a chance to purchase any other tours that they offer. We ended up buying the castle tour (Vivien was the tour guide). Make sure to tip the tour guide. The tour is free itself so might as well spend some money to tip right? :-) Just a note that they offer tours in different countries... So make sure to check their website/fb page for the list of their locations... read more

After having a great experience with this tour company in Berlin, a tour with them was on the top of my list of things to do in Prague. After my multi-European trip in the spring, I now had a better idea of what to do when travelling, so I knew it was best to do the walking tour early on in my trip so that I could familiarize myself with the city. I went on the free walking tour on my first full day in Prague. The meeting spot was at the Old Town Square, in front of the Czech Tourism Center, and the evening before, I made a point of walking to the meeting spot to ensure I knew where it was and how to efficiently get there (I knew from experience that even though I think it will take only 15 or 20 minutes to get somewhere, it'll probably take closer to an hour, as I'll get lost because the streets are twisting and winding, and the street signs are teeny tiny and halfway down the block on the side of a building--if there is one at all, and maps are not helpful if I don't know which direction on the map corresponds with which direction I'm walking!) So because of my wanderings the night before, I was able to easily and quickly get to the meeting spot. As expected, the free walking tour was very interesting and helpful with trying to get my bearings in Prague. We didn't go on the famous Charles Bridge, but the tour guide did point it out, so that when I went to the Charles Bridge several days later, I knew where to go. Some of the sights that we saw were the Old Town Square, including the Astronomical Clock, the Powder Tower, and a walk through the Jewish Quarter (unfortunately I was not able to re-visit the Jewish Quarter on my trip as I did so many other things, so I'm glad I had a quick preview of the area). After the free walking tour, I signed up for the castle tour later that afternoon (it started about half an hour after the walking tour ended), as well as the Terezin concentration camp tour later that week. During the castle tour we didn't go into the castle and see everything there is to see, but we covered the outside of the castle and the grounds, which was plenty, and it was a very interesting and satisfactory tour. One of the things we did see was the famous statue of the naked boy whose penis is shiny because stupid tourists like to rub it, because rubbing a young boy's penis is totally hilarious and not at all inappropriate. read more

Going on a Sandeman/s tour is one of the first things I like to do when visiting a new city, so also in Prague. Every day at 10.30 and 13.45 they collect under the big astronomical clock on Old Town Square and take you on a ± 3 hour-long guided tour through the old city. We visited basically all the places the average guide book says you should visit in the old part of Prague - but with lots of extra explanation and without getting lost. Another good thing? It costs exactly as much as you want it to cost, as you pay nothing, but (sort of have to) tip the guide in the end. read more

We did this on day 3 of our trip, and our family with 3 kids enjoyed this more than the hop on hop off. Do this on day 1 unless there's forecast for rain, then do the bus. Free Tours are at 11 and 2 pm everyday which meet outside the Cartier store which is passed the food booths behind the astronomical clock. Plan on a 3 hour walking tour, a break for snacks/beer in between and if you are interested in more tours, the food stop offers options. At that point, you have mingled with other like tourists and you get professional guidance from your tour guide. The tour guides are amazing. We were lucky to have Filip, local and highly versed in politics, history, architecture, and has great anecdotes. He sang this song about the Holy Wars and had a great story about the Velvet Revolution when he was only 7 months old which forever altered his family. **** Highlight for me was Filip's version of the clock, the apostles, and the rooster. So freaking hilarious, I'm still laughing about his facial expressions. **** We purchased the Kutna Hora (Bone Church) bus tour which was excellent with Martin and the Pub Crawl which was $20 and really not that amazing, but then again, it was $20. We bought kids tickets to Kutna Hora only to discover the next day at the plaza, kids would have been free. Best walking tour ever !! It's free, but Filip is worth a 500 kr tip. I saw some guy hand over some coins and I thought, don't be like that guy on the astronomical clock holding the bag of coins and fork over some paper money. You get a real pulse on Prage for 3 full ENGAGING hours, so stop and bring cash so you can tip accordingly. read more

I tried the free tour and a paid tour to Kutna Hora the following day and would recommend them both. The Old Town Tour departed from Old Town Square (by the tourist information and Cartier store) and meandered around the city for just over three hours with a conveniently timed break at 2/3 distance. I found it really helpful to gain my bearings and context for the city. The Kutna Hora tour departed at 10am the following morning and took us on a bus an hour outside of Prague for the day. Kutna Hora is home to the macabre bone chapel but also the brilliant St Barbara Church. Well worth checking out. read more

If it wasn't for the beer, the Sandeman's tours of Prague that we went on would be the highlight of the trip. I would highly recommend trying to be in Filip's group for any tours. He is born and raised in Prague and is very, very knowledgeable of the history of all of Praha, with some great comedy that you've come to expect from Sandeman's. The only exception of who you should want for your tours is for the beer tour, where you will want to have Radim be your guide, because I think he would take a bullet for beer and I respect that so hard. 10/10 read more

This was our first Sandeman's New Europe Walking Tour and we LOVED it. The concept is easy: they market the tour as free but you tip your guide as much as you think the tour was worth. And the thing is, at the end you WANT to pay. Our guide was called Colin, a Scottish guy who lives in Prague. He was super friendly and approachable - answering any question you threw at him. He kept the group captivated and entertained throughout the tour. It was brilliant and gave us a thorough tour of the main city sites (of which there are plenty! Our tour lasted about 3 hours with a stop off for a bagel in the middle!) Sandeman's was recommended to us by a friend and in turn we have recommended it to others. We just did a Sandeman's Tour in Edinburgh and had the same positive experience. Looking forward to doing more of them around Europe! (Sandeman's market themselves mostly on Trip Advisor -booooo!- and their reviews are really excellent. I would highly recommend this tour! Our guide was Jirka and he had a really fun personality and did a great job of educating us about Prague regarding the main tourist interests of the city but also added in recommendations for what the locals do and eat. I tried both authentic Czech places he recommended (U Sumavy and Lahudky) and they were amazing! I reviewed some guidebooks before my visit and these places were not in there. Overall I liked his passion and spirit with being proud of his culture and making the tour fun. I really walked away with a great overview of Prague and it helped me focus the rest of my trip on what I wanted to see more of. I strongly feel because of this experience, I will use Sandeman's tours to places I travel in the future where they're an option! Great job, Jirka! read more

We had JP for the Old Town Square tour in the AM. JP was easy to spot in a crowd (towering at 6'7") and we called him Czech Skelington. - our tour was pretty punny. JP is extremely knowledgeable, bringing in not only the history of the city, but how Czechs see their own city. He has information that you can't get in a book, the reason things happened they way they did in history. (I'd love to divulge a little more, but I think it would really take away from the tour.) I would EASILY pay for this kind of tour knowing the depth of information. There was a stop after about 2 hours for food or coffee (or a beer, guys) along the way. Much needed and accommodating. JP took into consideration local history of the people living in the Czech Republic, the involvement of the Soviet influence after the 2nd world war, and the global intricacies that come with a city as powerful as Prague. 2nd highest equestrian statue in the world - world facts like that. If you have 3 hours, take ANY tour in the Prague area with Sandemans and JP. (someone on our tour actually did the exact same tour with him a the year previously) - That's beyond impressive. - bring your walking shoes! read more

Love these free tours and was excited that it was 3 1/2hrs long that it would been full information. And it was but it felt more of a history lesson then facts about the city and architecture. Terry, our guide, was very enthusiastic and her passion for her city was infectious. Terry was very helpful in giving tips to avoiding scams and how much to expect to get for your money so you don't get ripped off. She even shared top places to visits, best times to visit them and places to eat and drink that she takes her out of town friends too. Sadly feel like it didn't get much information about the building and that we just walked around to different locations where she educated us in Prague's history, which was informative but not what I was after. read more

The walking tour of old town was one of the better walking tours we have had. Our guide, Ian, was both informative and amusing, and got us around town quickly. He also recommended a very good restaurant. The intermission at the mid point of the tour was nice, but I would advise not going to the place they bring you by default (they say you can go anywhere as long as your back in time); the place is not very wonderful and will involve presenting you with a ham-handed attempt to sell other tours. The boat tour was also quite good. I didn't catch the name of our guide, but she also did a great job. The food was mediocre. I would bypass eating on it. Pavel was our guide. He did a fantastic job and was very good with the group. He had a great sense of humor and was able to really keep us engaged at each pointed the tour, throwing in history, comedy and seriousness all at once. The personal stories were a great addition. The tour showed us quite a bit of old town, the Jewish quarters and a bit of new town. We had a 30 minute break at a cafe for drinks. Wasn't big fan of that place, but oh well. They had brochures on other tours that they could sell but we're in no way pushy about them. I really appreciated that. The tour was a but over 3 hours so plan your day accordingly. If you don't know much about Prague but you are dying to know more DO THIS TOUR!! If you're like me and not big on touristy things like tours and guides, you have to give this a go! It is an awesome, interactive and compelling way to learn about Prague. Our guide was Sarah and she was fantastic, very entertaining to watch and listen to and she was extremely respectful of the beautiful city and its history. The tour was 3 hours but included lots of ice cream and water breaks (it was a very hot day) and a half an hour lunch break. I was a bit skeptical of how long it was but 10 minutes in I was too intrigued to want to leave. I felt like I learnt more on this tour than I did in any museum we had been to. If you love the juicy parts of history and all the little stories and anecdotes that go with it, do this tour. The information will stick with you and you'll be thinking about if for days after. I'm going to look for Sandeman's Tours in each European city I visit now because it's a great way to introduce yourself to a new city and become more aware of how it has become what it is today. I just wish we had done the tour a day earlier on our first day! read more

First off, we would like to say...WOW! What a great tour! Our first impression was when we went on the 1400 free tour around Prague Old Town Square. We were blown away with the amount of friendliness and knowledge. We went on the English speaking tour with Ian and he was very nice and knowledgeable about many things. He spoke to us as if we had been friends for a long time and that was a very welcoming feeling. We liked the tour so much, we even decided to go on the Prague Castle tour the very next morning (Easter day)! We learned so many things we would not have learned if we went by ourselves, and we got to try amazing beers along the way. At the very end of the tour Ian mentioned it was his birthday so everyone in the group sang him Happy Birthday! We had a great experience and we would definitely do it all over again given the chance. read more

Absolutely amazing tours. My friend and I did the free walking tour of Prague, as well as the tour of Prague castle. If you want to learn some history and see the sights properly, I highly recommend doing it using this touring group. Prague is a beautiful city with such a rich history. I learned a lot and got some fantastic pictures. My tour guide for both was Filip. He was funny, engaging, knowledgable, honest, and full of information and stories. He even gave us a rundown of tips for navigating through the city. He was awesome! You do not get to hit all of the main sights, but you get a good deal. Filip took us to the old town hall with the astronomical clock, by the Estates Theatre, through the Jewish Quarter, Wenceslas Square, the Powder Gate, and a few other places. Even if it were not an "official" stop, if you asked him about certain buildings in passing he would answer your questions to the best of his ability. His ability was impressive too. He knew A LOT about the city. There is a break towards the middle as well, and the company makes reservations at a restaurant or bar for the group, and lets you grab a bite to eat or a drink before you head on to the last leg of your tour. It was all very well organized. The castle tour is a must. There is a fee and you can book your tickets during the break for the free walking tour. The fee is nominal though and worth the trip to see the gardens, the palaces, and most of all the St. Vitus Cathedral, which is the most beautiful structure I have ever seen. Be sure to carry a little bit of cash on you to tip your guide. Although the walking tour is free, you can kindly tip your guide if you see fit. Filip was amazing and unfortunately I did not have enough cash on me to tip him appropriately. My only other tip would be to get there early or book online. The tours filled up pretty fast and they seemed very popular. You can get their tours in various languages including English and Spanish. The staff was very organized and quite agreeable. Had a great day trip from Prague to Kutna Hora with American David as our guide. He did a wonderful job of making the tour interesting. Allotted enough time for us to see everything. The Bone Church was great. David gave a lot of additional information of the cathedral in the town. The pre-ordered lunch of traditional Czech food was terrific. He was very funny by sharing his experiences in Prague and the U.S. and provided good history of the city. We saw the following areas: Old Town Square & Astronomical Clock, View of Charles Bridge, Church of Our Lady before Týn, View of Prague Castle, Rudolfinum - Czech Philharmonic, Old New Synagogue & the Golem, Art Nouveau Municipal House, Spanish Synagogue, St. Nicolas' Church (with the hand), Old Jewish Quarter, Kinský Palace, Wenceslas Square, WWII - Prague Uprising, Statue of Jan Hus, and Powder Tower. At the end of the tour, we gave him a tip. Tips are how the tour guides get paid as the do not receive compensation from the tour agency. read more

I've toured a lot all over the world so some tours are better than others. This one was decent. I went on the free walking tour in the morning and the castle tour in the afternoon. My guide was Tijo, he was funny and had lots of interesting facts to share. He spoke English well which was appreciated. I would do another tour from this group. They need to provide an address for the start of the walking tour though. There are more than one St Nicholas churches in Prague but only one Cartier for those Ubering. read more

Andrea was our guide. Thus, the 5-star rating really belongs to her. Great walking tour. The time passed so fast. She was articulate, informative, witty, passionate, and surprisingly funny. She uses her own experience as a Slovakian and Czech who grew up partly during the communism in this country. We laughed, we got teary. It was really a very well structured tour and experience. I went on the "beer experience" tour. It was totally not worth it and overpriced. Please avoid the prague museum, the staff is extremely rude and inefficient. If you want a real beer prague tour, go to different bars on your own. Sadly, our tour guide seemed uninterested in interacting with the group and was very unorganized. This review may well depend on the guide you get, but ours was fun and enjoyable her name was Tatiana. We were attracted to the "free" aspect of the tour having toured the castle ourselves and the day before having done a Segway tour of the city. Our tour today focused on old Prague. We learned a lot. It would have been interesting to get more of the Velvet Revolution into the mix, but overall our guide gets high marks. The break was taken at a pub obviously connected to the tour operation. We weren't hungry, so ordered no food. The beer was tasty. & refreshing. I did feel a bit trapped into breaking w/ the group, but I bet you could bypass the break and meet back for the remainder of the tour w/ no problem we tipped our guide b/c she was worth it. So much for free. But over the course of the tour, we passed by numerous other guided groups w/ guides looking both bored and participants bored to tears. I like that Tatiana had to work for the tip. Amazing free walking tour with guide Lyle. He was extremely knowledgeable about the city and shared personal stories that made the walk worthwhile even in the rain. He even gave out a list of his favorite restaurants, bars, dessert spots, etc. Highly recommend Sandeman's tours in every city (did this in Berlin as well), but especially for getting to know Prague. Also, definitely do the Prague Castle guided tour with Sandeman's! Guide Tijo was passionate, intelligent, and extremely accommodating!
