We were there for an hour and a half and most of that was just waiting. A second doctor to the practice would definitely alleviate the long waits patients and their families have. That said, the doctor literally saw us for maybe 3 minutes. She checked my child with her stethoscope and that's pretty much it. In the pre-check in forms, I even wrote my concerns that my son might be autistic but didn't say it was anything to be worried about. This also told me that because I had to bring it up that she either never read my check-in forms or didn't care to discuss it. Almost everyone who has met my kid, including past teachers, and interacted with him expressed their concerns that he might on the autism spectrum. Dr. Dong is nice but that doesn't make up for lacking in other areas.

If we could, we would have stayed with Kaiser, but that's not an option b/c the mister's work doesn't offer it. I logged into the health care providers site and there were over 100 doctors to choose from. OY! How the heck do I choose? Thankfully a friend of ours takes her children to BAP and she had 2 names of doctors that she would recommend. Thankfully those 2 doctors were listed in the names that were available to us. There is a rather large parking lot behind the medical building, but it seems that most of the employees park there. I was warned by my friend that sometimes getting a space can be a b!tch. Thankfully our appointment was at 9AM, so there were still a few parking spaces available. When we came out everything was full, and people were waiting for people to leave. *Note to self: Schedule early appointments. The waiting area space is okay. Lots of things for the kids to do which I'm not used to with Kaiser. The lilmiss went straight for the playhouse. Kids were playing with the various tables and the walls were appropriately decorated with children's artwork. There were a few magazines for the parents and plenty of books for the children. Unlike Kaiser we were seen right away. Which is nice. I didn't even get a chance to finish my paperwork. One thing I didn't like were the exam rooms. They seemed very dated, like they needed some TLC. Another thing was the infant scale was located all the out by the entrance. I was asked to remove my daughter's clothes and leave on her diaper and carry her out and around to the scales. Thankfully it wasn't too chilly, but still! The nurse weighed her with her diaper on too which I know was full and added some weight to her reading, inaccuracy. Either I'm too used to Kaiser or I just don't know. Normally we're given a sheet of paper for milestones to expect as well as height and weight written down. We're also given the option to schedule the next appointment, seeing as how it will be in another 2 months. I have my likes and dislikes for BAP, but I'm sure there will be some things that I need to get used to after being in a system like Kaiser for 9 years.

Having come from an awful experience at Kaiser, I was looking for a competent, compassionate, and responsive pediatrician. Dr. Zaglin has far exceeded my expectations. The first appointment was the 18 month check up for my daughter. My daughter was very anxious and cried. Dr. Zaglin took the time to ease his way into her good graces and now when I ask if she wants to see Dr. Zaglin she says "Yes he gives stickers!" We have seen Dr. Zaglin three times since then and he has always been very caring towards my daughter. He speaks to her directly and gets her to warm up to him before he begins examining her. He also takes an interest in other non-medical issues like her sleep patterns and language development. At Kaiser they told me that her sleep issues were not their concern and not a health issue. THANK YOU Dr. ZAGLIN and your wonderful team for providing this first time mom with peace of mind that you truly have my child's best interest at heart.

She called after hours to check up on how my daughter was doing, asked to see her the next day and gave me a thorough assessment of the progress that was being made the following day. You can tell she genuinely cares and was so happy to see my daughter's personality shine thought again. She went the extra mile for us by asking us to draw blood before prescribing steroids to increase the chances we were treating the right underlying symptoms/ issue. This added admin on her plate but I appreciated that she didn't go straight to treating my child without being more sure about the underlying cause.

The lady that works at the front office don't know anything, and is super slow. You ask or say anything to her and she just looks at you and not respond and then look away. I don't even know why shes there when she don't know anything, don't pick up phone calls or check messages, don't make appointments, don't do any referrals or authorizations. Then there's this JV Health that they use for appointments, referrals, authorization, etc. I contact them every day and they always say they will call back and sometimes do but not for 2-3 days. They have no idea how to put in referrals or request for authorization. They were supposed to put in a referral and they never did it. After many attempts they finally sent a referral. Almost two weeks after I saw the doctor. Seriously? What if it's medically urgent? Then they tell me I don't need pre authorization. When I call the specialty provider, they say of course pre authorization is required. Then I called my insurance and they tell me the place they sent the referral to is not in my network. Now I have to call JV Health again and deal with these incompetent people. And good luck trying to make appointments, especially last minute or urgent appointments. They say they will call you back and maybe they will in a couple of days. Please Dr. Fernandez get rid of these people. They will drag you down. I'm looking for a new doctor because if I can't get the help when I need it, what's the point. I shouldn't have to make ten phone calls for a simple referral.

We ended up leaving after 2 months of our baby being born and went to another truly concierge-style pediatrician. The issues we had here was that 90% of our encounters were with a Nurse Practioner. Maybe I just got unlucky and never had an md available. The final straw was probably when my baby had his 2 month vaccine, ran a fever the same night, and the NP picked up the after hours call. She made us really nervous that something was extremely wrong even though it was just the vaccine. I mean after hours is for emergency. What if it was something worse- couldn't a doctor at least be on call? They also bill you for everything. I mean everything. Just sending an email with a photo of my baby's red bump, and then they ask to jump on a call for a few minutes just to tell me it's baby acne and then they bill $300-$400. Why not just respond via email. The same thing with asking basic questions like he's spitting up, constipated. Need to jump on a call and then get billed $300-$400. Money is not an issue for us but overtime it just seemed so ridiculous and prevented me from even wanting to email or call in. They also seem to love probiotics here. My baby had dry skin and the nurse told us to use probiotics to resolve it? He's spitting up, she told us to use probiotics. He's constipated. The solution was to use probiotics. My baby also developed a flat head. They sent us to physical therapy and to get advised for a helmet right away. At my new practice, the MD wanted to take a look at him first and then sent a referral to UCSF to get consultation with their cranio team. Anyway. I just felt like it's really cookie cutter here. Didn't feel like they cared about my baby at all. It's more like they provide good service. Yes someone will always respond to your email right away and answer your call. But just expect an NP or to be billed for every conversation you have with them.
