He's also thorough, but doesn't put you through a litany of expensive tests you may not need. I've been suffering with back trouble for years and he was the first one to tell me I have bone spurs on the spine - some doctors wouldn't even *talk* to me without my having an MRI first. We…read moreBEGGED him to order an MRI (you cannot get an MRI in Abilene unless a Dr. orders one) he LITERALLY WOULD NOT ORDER an MRI for my mother! He was her primary care physician for gosh sakes. She went to rehab for two weeks all the while he was prescribing medication for her, but NO MRI. When she left rehab, she went to her lung doctor and told her the story. Her lung doctor could not believe he hadn't ordered an MRI yet. She ordered it and received the results...her FEMUR WAS BROKEN!! It has now healed incorrectly and she needs surgery to fix it, however, she cannot have surgery because of her health. She was bed ridden for a year thanks to this idiot. Going forward, she was scheduled to see a new doctor for two weeks, the morning of her appointment she was told she cannot see this new doctor because Dr. GAO has black listed her. If you value your health and your LIFE, I would NEVER see Dr. GAO. WOULD'T GIVE HIM ANY STARS, BUT ZERO STARS IT IS NOT AN OPTION.

From the moment he walked in, something was off -- he appeared either extremely tired or possibly under the influence. He barely opened his eyes while speaking to us. He asked my husband, who has a brain injury, if he had been using his inhaler twice daily. My husband replied that he thought it was only once daily. Dr. Pate's response was jaw-dropping: "You can't come in here bitching about breathing problems if you're not taking your medicine correctly." I was stunned that a physician would speak to a patient -- especially one with a brain injury -- in such a disrespectful, unprofessional, and downright cruel manner. This was not only inappropriate but also completely devoid of compassion or basic bedside manner. This level of disrespect and lack of professionalism is shocking. My husband left furious, and we will never see this doctor again.
