My 11-year-old son and I played pickleball for months at the Club then suddenly we were told that "liability" issues would prevent him from playing there again. My son is a very talented, mature player who got along very well with the adults, or so it seemed. Apparently one or more adults did not want a child playing regardless of skill level or temperament. That's selfish and intolerant but ultimately their decision. My problem is the hypocrisy of the management which allows tennis players my son's age or younger to play there on a regular basis but excludes my son. Is tennis a safer game than pickleball? In any case, no apology was made or workaround offered. I urge pickleball players to choose the Pearson Automotive Tennis Center; it's a much more welcoming place.

That said, the facilities themselves are well below par. The locker rooms and bathrooms are beyond outdated. Furthermore the locker rooms and bathrooms are extremely dirty. I am not sure these are even cleaned daily. And when the pool is open, which is not a guaranty, the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Our child went here for tennis lessons. Beware of missing a lesson - you will not be given a refund or allowed to reschedule. A no refund policy is understandable, if undesirable, however the fact that you can't reschedule is ridiculous. My child hurt their foot, was in a walking boot and the response from the club when attempting to reschedule - 'Too bad, no refunds or makeup classes under any circumstances.' Our 3 children have participated in many activities over 10 years and this is the only time we were not allowed a makeup class. I certainly wouldn't consider this good customer service. Do yourself a favor and avoid the Carmel Racquet Club. Between the poor facilities and lacking customer service, it is worth the drive to find a better club.

Only negative is that as the only black family out there the kids tennis program manager Melissa told me that toddlers younger than 3 can't play but allowed her friends kids to do it while watching my daughter sit on the sideline and couldn't play the entire summer. As long as you are willing to put in the effort to set up your own matches and be a little flexible on when and where you play, you can play as much or little as you like. Being new to Indianapolis, this league really helped me figure out the tennis scene and what other options I had. It really is a good social and tennis opportunity. The only negative is in how the league got divided this Fall. I got put in the higher division, which has less players, making setting up matches a little tougher. I wish they had stuck with a single Division. Otherwise, A plus!

I did have a difficult time finding it. I initially put in Garfield park into my GPS so I drove around quite a bit before I finally found the courts. I wish there were more signage right off the main street to eliminate any of these problems for those who don't visit the park often or if its their first time. There were numerous tennis courts which made getting a court easy. We played on the court closest to the street. The fence closest to the street was normal height, so some our balls went over the fence. It would be nice to have the high height all the way around to avoid any issues like this.

With a farmers market and an outdoor summer concert series, Garfield Park is making a comeback…read more I've just found another perk: 8 decent outdoor tennis courts. Though these courts have weathered a few small cracks, they're level and stayed dry despite a rainfall earlier on the day I visited. 5 of the 8 nets had center straps in tact. Fortunately we were only the 3rd group of players to visit that weekday evening, so we were able to choose a court in good shape. We found ample parking next to the courts, which are located right by the beautiful gardens and conservatory. One star withheld due to the cracks and missing net straps. Or, maybe just because I'm bitter about losing to my boyfriend.

Every time a member in our party pays with cash, a call comes about a month later telling them they never paid and owe $. EVERY SINGLE TIME. They ask if they have a receipt- who has a receipt a month after playing tennis/pickle ball? After the third person in our party got accused of not paying, (3 separate occasions) we all use, and tell others to ONLY use their credit card to pay.
