The admin staff, especially Ms. Lopez, is amazing and really cares about the students. Ms. Lopez is "on the ground" enough that she knows the kids names and they all say hi to her when they see her. The preschool teachers, Ms. Gwen, Ms. Margaret and Ms. Kim, are phenomenal. They approach any issues with kindness and sensitivity. They are also firm with the kids and set good boundaries and routines. Finding that balance is typically difficult, but they do it with finesse! The curriculum here, even with the preschool class, sets the kids up for success in higher grades. It balances play and fun with learning. From letter recognition to name writing to "STEM" - via tiny science experiments - music and Spanish, outdoor play and story time, they do it all. Since day one, my child has been excited to go each day and has thrived in the Harper environment. The learning progress I've seen, especially at such a young age, is astounding. We love Harper and appreciate all the staff very much! We hope to be a Harper family for a very long time to come!

Highly, highly recommended for elementary school! A lot of…read morethese reviews are for the daycare/pre-k programs, but I'd like to review the Elementary program, which is newer and smaller. Our son joined the Kindergarten program halfway through the year in Jan '25. He had been at a well-regarded RWC public school, but unfortunately he struggled there with behavior, academic, and motivation issues. Basically, he was slipping through the cracks. He was regressing academically, and most worryingly to me, he was starting to hate going to school. He started at Harper at the mid-year break. There was certainly an adjustment period - the Harper kids were *so* far ahead academically. But, the curriculum is individualized and the support was tremendous. It was amazing how quickly he improved on all fronts: behavior, academics, and motivation. He literally sprints from the car to class each morning. He is so excited and talks about what he learns constantly. He has developed a positive attitude, curiosity, and emotional maturity beyond anything we could have hoped for. Ms. Shaynee, his teacher, is an absolute rock star. We feel so lucky to have had her as his teacher. The class size for elementary grades at Harper is absurdly small right now. Like, 5-10 kids. At first, I thought it would be weird. But it's actually a wonderful number for this age, and it makes Harper such an incredible deal. It's obviously a new school and a new program, and I'm hoping it grows with him as he progresses through the grades. Overall, if you are looking for a private elementary, I just can't recommend Harper enough. No private school in this area is cheap, but I feel we get incredible value for our dollar. The fact that the aftercare is so affordable helps. Also, we hear that if you have multiple kids there then the cost goes down a lot.

What, no reviews yet? Well I guess I'll be the first to review. :)…read more I absolutely LOVE this school (though I'm no longer there, due to moving out of the area). I've taught at 4-5 different school districts in my teaching profession due to moving a lot and this school is the one that stands out the most in my mind. Every time I think about my time at this school, I get a little dreamy and misty-eyed. First off, I had the most amazing coworkers. Not to say that my coworkers at my other schools weren't amazing too, but the teachers I met at this particular school are people I really enjoyed spending time with and getting to know. They're people you could see being lifelong friends with, and hanging out outside of the work day. I remember seeing everyone at the staff meetings and just thinking, what a great group of people. They even have a full-fledged vegetable garden out there! Secondly, the students are amazing. Or maybe it just happened to be my groups of students. They were SO CUTE and so intelligent. Their parents would spend so much time packing them cute little lunches and healthy snacks. Thirdly, the parents are fabulous too. When I first moved to this school, the parents were so friendly and welcoming me to the area, and I had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming. What a wonderful community. The PTA/PTC rocks too. The admin/principal and office staff are phenomenal as well. I love being at a school where you have a supportive principal who trusts that you will do your best for your class, instead of micromanaging and making excessive demands (as evidenced in other schools I've taught at). Plus what amazing weather they have in Foster City. I've never been to a school where the weather is so mild that students can eat lunch pretty much every day outdoors. I know we don't really come on Yelp to see school reviews (try greatschools.org) but I figured I'd come here and be the first reviewer to rave about this school. I truly had the best teaching experience when I taught at this school. Like one coworker once said to me, "Teaching at Audubon is like winning the lottery." It truly is unlike any other.

My daughter is reading two level above her grade level and is excelling at an exceptional rate. The activities that we hold at Nesbit are great for the school and fun for the whole community. I have heard other parents from different schools in our district frown upon Nesbit because we except kids from East Palo Alto. Now, I live in the lovely Belmont, no more than five minutes away. But for the parents who are raising their children to be snobs to other children because of their location of residence, keep your snobby attitudes and children away! Nesbit is a loving and caring school who are raising outstanding citizens. As long as I am living in this community, my child will be attending until I need to start the dreaded search of middle schools in a couple of years!

I also went to Central School. There was no 'middle' in the name then. We had just moved to San Carlos from Connecticut, and I had never seen such an old school building, with antique wooden desks from the 1920s. I went there from 5th through 8th grade. I was a dysfunctional kid from a dysfunctional family, who came with a terribly rotten academic history (this was before ADHD was discovered). I was so bad, they made me take 5th grade twice. But the second time around was almost enjoyable. This wonderful teacher, Madeline Rentz, occupied Room 8, and was my teacher for both tours of 5th grade. Mrs. Rentz had a light blue 1953 Plymouth Business Coupe, which she traded in for a brand new 1959 Ford Galaxie. As it would turn out later in my life, Mrs. Rentz was one of the foremost moving powers that shaped my life as an adult, and I will never be able to thank her enough for all she did for me. But the bullying was another matter. I was the tiniest, shyest, quietest kid in the school, and the older bullies knew it and used it to their advantage. Every day they would wait for me just off the school grounds to harass me as I walked home. Complaining did no good. The school said there wasn't anything they can do, once we were off the school grounds. My indifferent parents just said I must be doing something to annoy them. Both excuses were a crock of crap. I finally learned that if I just goofed off all day, Mrs. Rentz would make me stay after school to do my work that I didn't get done. I never left much before 4:30 and eventually the bullies gave up waiting for me. One time the school did something they could have gotten in deep trouble for. In 7th grade my brother had a science class with a horrid teacher named Mrs. Combs. She was tall, loud, very unattractive and when she held her arms up, everyone could see she never shaved under her arms. She was mean and feisty and every kid in the school was scared to death of her. She would tease and make wise cracks about individual kids, which didn't help her credibility any, either. Worse, she drove a solid bright red 1959 Chevrolet Impala 4-door hardtop, one of the ugliest cars ever made by Chevrolet, but it fit Mrs. Combs better than OJ's glove. One day my brother didn't answer some question to her satisfaction. After teasing him for a moment, he said something which caused her to explode. She grabbed him by his shirt, ripping off a few buttons, and sent him to the principal's office. I wasn't there and don't know what he said, but my brother got As and Bs and was never a discipline problem, so it had to be something Mrs. Combs imagined. I never thought she was carrying a full suitcase, anyway, and often wondered how a public school could ever hire someone like her. My 7th grade teacher was a young short-tempered man named Mr. Prata. He drove a rusty turquoise 1957 MG roadster. Being the lousy student I was, it didn't take him very long to despise me. He would shout from five classrooms down the hall, "Brassfield, shut up!" in reference to a girl who never stopped talking. He was also an eraser thrower. He called everybody by their last name, males and females, like some drill sergeant in the army. He and I never got along, and 7th grade was the worst grade I ever suffered through. In 8th grade I got a reprieve, in the form of a wonderful, fun little round guy named Mr. Darley, who drove a Woodland Green 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air. He had a sense of humor that wouldn't quit, and he always had everyone laughing. When something would go wrong, he'd pretend he was angry and gyrate around, causing a lock of hair to fall across one eye, then he'd brush it out of the way in indignation, while the class roared. 8th grade was the first time I'd ever received anything above a 'D' in school. Today, all these folks are long gone, but they will remain forever interred in my memories. Overall, Central School wasn't really such a bad place, despite a few hiccups no one ever caught.
