We love being able to walk around when we travel - without having to get into the car and drive someplace. This was perfect for that. We would actually get out and walk a couple to several times a day - whether just to walk or to go to eat. The beach is also within easy walking distance - so nice! You can just walk all sorts of directions and see many different things. The vacation rental was super clean! We've stayed in a number in both California and Oregon. We had some Wi-Fi problems, and in that we must bring our "office" (computers) with us - being able to have wi-fi is essential. When we called the agency. they responded promptly to our call. The kitchen is well supplied with dishes, utensils, etc. The bathroom was also sparkling clean. The tub is VERY, VERY slippery - I take a tub bath and even my husband, who takes a shower, said he felt very unsafe as it was so slippery; there are no "grip strips" of any kind. If we were to return to this rental, we'd definitely bring our own bath mat for safety. There is a porch quite a distance around the unit - we didn't use it - personal preference, but . . in nice warm weather, it would be nice. It was nice to have a garage in which to park the car. 4 stars instead of 5 for several reasons: in all our stays at vacation rentals, we've never been asked to strip the beds and start the laundry, and if I remember correctly, we were to have dishes done before checkout. (I don't remember the check out time, but . . if we'd done all they asked, our last AM there WOULD NOT have been leisurely!) We didn't have the dishes done - but they were in the dishwasher being washed. Also - out security deposit ($500.) was NOT returned in the time frame in which they said it would be in the contract we had to sign. It was at least 6 weeks before it was credited back to us; that's quite a big chunk of our money for them to have for that extended time. And . . .we had to call them to check on it when it wasn't credited and it was huge process for them to find out what the problem was.

The manager, Allison, was very accommodating and she gave us all the information we needed about our stay when we booked the room. One warning- if you're a light sleeper, avoid unit F. It sits right on Cliff St. which is fairly busy. The weather was warm, but we couldn't sleep with the windows open because of the street noise. I would recommend to the owners that you invest in some tower fans for your units. All in all, we were very pleased with Surfside Apartments.

Usually I just go to the dollar tree and just buy some but I thought why should I ? They charge enough that these items should be supplied. I'm hopeful at some point they would also get a dresser for the bedroom. There was zero place to put my clothes except for the closet. ( which is large) could easily accommodate a dresser.. oh well. I have two rowdy kids that are nine and seven. The house is really cool and not super formal and the kids had a great time. They especially loved the spiral staircase. We went for a family reunion and although there is a long list of house rules the owners were very open to accommodating some of the special requests we had. I called Mary and emailed her numerous times. She was very responsive and once she knew our needs she was happy to help out.

Also a great place to stay if you have a pup. Billy, our big dog, loved it here. We would have stayed longer if it was closer to hubby's work. We had everything we needed and more. Annie keeps the place super clean and cute- strings of white lights, beach zen decor, and there's a hot tub! We soaked in it almost every night. Sometimes with a spritz cocktail. My husband and I spent two weeks there for our honeymoon. You could not ask for a better positioned spot- a quick walk to the beach, and a short stroll to the very cool Opal Cliff shopping area, which is brimming with spots to eat and shop. Annie also provides bicycles, so we literally were on the move the entire time. The cottage itself is ready to move in, with everything and more you could need. Very comfortable bed, lovely outdoor area, and did I mention- a HOT TUB! Annie herself is the coolest, completely non-imposing, but so open, kind and welcoming, that anything you need while you are there she happily and quickly answers and supplies. I am getting very sad writing this, as I do not know the next time we will be able to get to the cottage- you had better not be booked when I next want to go! =) Seriously, the ONLY place we will stay ever again in Santa Cruz. Can not recommend highly enough.
