    Pernil sandwich
    Stephanie T.

Every time I drive on the I95, I always see a line of food trucks and cars parked along the water. I knew I wanted to stop by and check it out one day. I ordered the Pernil sandwich. I guess thinking back it was silly to order a Pernil sandwich when it's a Cubano sandwich food truck. Anyways at the time, I wanted to try it. There was a good portion of Pernil and lettuce in the sandwich. The only thing missing was maybe some sauce, it was a little dry. The bread was toasty. I was very full after eating the sandwich. I would definitely come back and try the other food trucks.

Really delicious Cuban sandwich - finally hit up the New Haven Food Truck! We have driven pass this spot a few times whenever on the I95... and was always curious to know if the food trucks are worth the detour. We finally made it here and boy were we glad to grabbed these yummy crispy cubanos! We got one regular and one w/o pickles for my kids. The pork was moist & tender and that melted cheese was so freaking good. It's a bit steep... $10 a sandwich, but worth it. The wait is a bit crazy... took a good 15 mins for 2 sandwiches. When in New Haven, swing by! No bathroom, no tables... no problem! We had one in the car... couldn't wait. Then split the 2nd one at our Airbnb! Yay!

Hands down the best Cubano sandwich I have ever had. I always want to to stop by the food truck festival. I saw the flag and smelled the aroma and had to try it.

The Cuban sandwich was so good I went back the next day. Tacos were good and so were the empanadas. The star is the Cuban excellent sandwich.

I've been planning for a while to stop along 1-95 in New Haven where a couple dozen food trucks serve passersby. Most of the trucks offer Mexican or other Latino fare. Among them, Sandwiches El Cubano is a standout. I love the energy of the order taker / server and the colorful truck from which this delicious food comes. I had the Cuban Sandwich and it was good. But to be objective and fair however, I thought the proportions were wrong: too much pork and not enough ham and Swiss and almost a lack of pickles on mine. Also the bread was not authentic Cuban bread and without that, it's simply just not a real Cuban. Tasty sandwich, though.

The best Cubano Sandwich I've ever had in the Northeast. The bread although not exactly authentic was perfect. The pork was moist and juicy and had the proper amount stuffed between the perfectly crispy bread. The cheese was melted perfectly. Combined with the ham, pickles and mustard made it the perfect sandwich. I've been thinking about this sandwich for days. I have to go back!

Cuban sandwich was fresh, hot, and tasty -- definitely a great road trip option! Solid 4 stars.

Even though the food trucks posted that they opened until 9 pm, we stopped by at 9:30 pm. ("Food Truck Paradise" actually lists their hours 8-10pm.) There was a handful of trunks left - with patrons waiting for food. Yeah, the area looks a bit shady at night but there was also an unmarked popo sitting on the road. Anyways, we wanted Cubanos to-go but ended up also getting tacos here. The Cubanos are $10; and, tacos are $1.50 each. (I noticed there are no lengua tacos here.) Noticed a previous reviewer pointed out the two pickles. Ok, so we didn't get much pickles either (maybe 4 total?) but the sandwich is chockablock of carnitas which makes it totally worth the $. Since I did take out, I was able to add more pickles and mustard at home. The tacos are delicious as well. None of the protein was dry. It came topped with onions and cilantro; and, some side garnish of radishes and one lime. Simple tacos. Don't expect cheese and the sour cream. The lady taking our order spoke English and was organized - she repeated our orders as she wrote them and then, once again.

I wasn't impressed. Tried the Cuban sandwich for lunch today. Felt the pork was dry and lacking flavor. And the value wasn't there, at $8 for the sandwich. I won't be back.

    A Very Delicious Cuban Sandwich!!

Just wow is all I can say. I'd been wanting to try the Long Wharf Food Trucks for sometime. After watching the movie Chef, where the Cuban Sandwich truck was center stage I knew that this had to be my first stop. We went there yesterday at about 11AM. It was cold and rainy and a bit before lunch so there were only a few customers at this truck. My wife went to place the order and the man at the window told her to wait in the car and he would wave to her when it was ready. He was as good as his word and in a couple of minutes he waved her over. The sandwich was just terrific, with lots of filing, the shredded pork was plentiful and hot. Others have remarked about the bread but we thought it was just wonderful. The pickles were perfect too. BTW, we both have big appetites and splitting one between us was plenty!

I wasn't that impressed with the quality of bread used. They also went a little light on the pickle. The meat was pretty juicy and flavorful. But to me, what makes a Cuban, is the bread and that's were they fell short.

The Cuban sandwiches most delicious. The bread was nice and crispy, the pork Was Juicy.

They were supposed to be here from 4-8 and I didn't time how long it was taking but I went up there twice and they claimed that they were waiting for the rice to finish. I probably was one of the first customers so I figured they might not have been ready and they had given me a free soda and a free dessert and extra pork so I wasn't too irritated about the situation. Plus the people who work the truck are very nice. Today, I was incredibly annoyed because I should have just cooked like I planned to. My food would have gotten done faster than they boxed up the food I bought. I paid almost 60 dollars including a tip to wait almost an hour for two pork bowls and rice. I wasn't given a wait time when I ordered the food so I just went to sit in my car outside my building since I figured it wouldn't take that long. After half an hour I decided to go see why the thing they gave me hadn't buzzed yet. When I went over, they were chatting up other customers having a great time. I asked about my order and they claimed it had been called already, so I figured it was just a mistake, but then someone else said they were still waiting on one more pork bowl. So I went inside, put away my groceries, washed my dishes, took out the trash and finally when I returned the food was done. If they ever come back here, I won't be spending my money with them, as nice as they are, they have held up my time twice and the food isn't worth my time. Oh and all I got for all that wait was a "God bless you" so I hope the Lord blesses them with better time management and that we never meet again.

I first visited La Cocina Cubano Food Truck about a year ago, with the intention of trying a Cubano…read moresandwich, but I got distracted by a Chicken Fricassee special they had that day. I finally tried the Cubano today, and it's the best Cubano sandwich I've had in CT. I know everybody is anxious to hear a guy originally from the Ohio suburbs break down a Cubano sandwich. So hear you go. Many CT places make good Cubanos, but they're more Cubano-adjacent than authentic. I don't think anybody but La Cocina gets the bread right in CT. The owners' Dad is Cuban and has owned a bakery. He makes the bread for these Cubanos. The bread is what you would find at the good Miami bakeries and sandwich shops. Fresh. Thin. Wide. Tasty. It has terrific color and texture when it's pressed on a Plancha. A lot of CT places have some good ingredients for their Cubanos, but the balance of ingredients and flavors is wrong in some way. A Cubano has two flavorfully impactful ingredients -- Mustard and Pickles. Although ham can be too salty in large quantities, the remaining Cubano ingredients are more or less mild. Swiss has less salt than many cheeses. And the pork umami flavor is subtle as well. I find some places ruin their sandwiches with an overly aggressive mustard or distracting pickles. La Cocina's Cubano flavors are perfectly balanced, and really allow the juiciness and umami flavors of the slow roasted citrus Mojo marinated pork and the texture of the bread to stand out. The sliced pickles are tasty and almost have a slight Gherkin vibe to the brine, and the mustard is mild and applied in a quantity that complements and doesn't overpower anything. The Swiss was perfectly melted and stretchy, and its mild flavor was just right. I highly recommend La Cocina's Cubano. Check their Socials to find the truck at locations such as near Bushnell Park and Trinity College. 5 Stars

Our second dish, the ropa vieja, was again just okay and had a noticeable sweetness to it--possibly from the peppers. The amount of times I have walked by here and never came in is actually pretty funny. It is a small mexican food restaurant but they had a table for us two in the back near the bathrooms. They had two tables crammed next to each other in the back. Our first table we were seated at was like literally on top of the people sitting in the booth next to us. We then asked to move to the other table they said it was fine but we kinda got a look from the waitress like are you guys serious like it was a hassle to move us or something. Not to mention that these tables are not made for two people to comfortable sit and enjoy a meal at together. They are very small! When our waitress came to take our order I went first and told her all my allergies and than she just walked away after and didn't come back and didn't take my friends order or let me finish my order. It was the most oddest thing. So another waitress came to take our order and I told her that I gave some of my order to the other person and told her all my allergies and this waitress currently said how the other one did not tell her about all my allergies but did warn me that because the kitchen is soo small there may be cross contamination. My friend and I ordered drinks both margarita's on the rocks. They came out not that cold and pretty tasteless. For food I got their world famous corn with cheese. My friend got the corn to but with the spicy powder on top of it. We decided the corn was the best thing. We also both ordered the salad but I got it with chicken and my friend got it with shrimp. We both did not really enjoy our salads but she ate hers I just had a few bites and then packed up the rest to go even though I ended up just throwing it away later in day. I will not be coming back even if I am with a friend who wants to. Many other mexican restaurants in this city where the staff is friendly and food and drinks are much better than what we had experienced here.
