The meat was super tender, like melt-in-your-mouth good, and the portion was definitely satisfying. I will say, at first I wished the broth had a bit more flavor on its own but once I added the lime and the sauce that came with it? Game over. I'm not sure if we chose the right taco truck... there were a few to choose from but this one had more people waiting... realized the "wait" didn't equal to amazing tasting tacos... it was just slow service on a 95 degree hot summer day. 1st, the kid who took our orders... didn't give us a receipt.. so wasn't sure if we can go and grab other food while waiting... but stayed and waited over 20 mins for a few tacos & a burrito. Drove by the food trucks and saw long lines so it's gotta be good right? Not quite. We decided to get food here because it had the longest line and also had the birria tacos and quesadilla which was what we wanted. It was a huge disappointment. The birria tacos didn't have cheese and the meat itself was really dry. The consume was just very salty and lacked other flavors. The birria quesadilla had too much filler in it so it was just too wet and didn't hold together. The meat was also dry. We last visited a little over two years ago and when we came back it took us a while to find the food truck since they had made so many new updates. I'm glad that they not only updated the truck, but also the food. I didn't think it could get better, but it did! Now you get a grilled onion bulb and roasted jalapeño with your meal. They also have birria tacos on the menu that are scrumptious. They're cheesy and filled with a lot of meat. The food is still piping hot and delicious. It's hard to make a quesadillas stand out, the ingredients are pretty standard and most taste pretty similar. However, my quesadilla from here stands out from the rest. It was the most flavorful and freshest quesadilla I've ever had. The pico was amazing and the ingredient combination was just right. I especially loved the avocado, which was included, but is typically only offered at an additional price. To be fair, I'm not too adventurous when it comes to food and my go-to Mexican dish is typically a quesadilla, so I've had more than my fair share. Basically, I consider myself an above-average, experienced quesadilla critic. In a world filled of dozen of food trucks in Long Wharf, I picked this particular one, and I'm so happy I did. The menu looked good, the truck looked clean and the line wasn't too long (I'm not sure why). They also take credit cards, which was an added bonus. With a drink, my meal came to $9 and I loved every bite and I'm totally full. The BF ordered from another truck, but ended up getting an additional chicken taco here. Being a noob, I typed taco truck into yelp to see who had the most/best reviews and Nextalli won. Next time I'll choose a different truck for the sake of variety. I got 3 tacos - chicken, pork, and steak. Omfg I'm in love. So fresh tasting and delicious. Lots of cilantro. They were $1.25 a piece and 3 were plenty filling. I did steal a few bites of my boyfriend's steak tostada and that was phenomenal too. Apply a couple liberal squeezes of the green sauce, find the guy wandering around with a churro cart and eat yourself into a coma. This is most certainly going to become an obsession now. Food used to be good, but the last 2 times I've ordered delivery, it was pretty gross. Avocado was brown and black and the limes were old as well. Food was just kind of slimy. Nothing was fresh or appealing. They got the order wrong as well. It sucks to eat spicy Mexican food without the drinks we ordered. I can't give the Nextalli Taco Truck any less than 5 stars because I'm still thinking about the al pastor quesadilla I had a few days ago, and I'm trying to figure out when I can go back again. This truck is a little hard to get to, at least for me (I made my way through the streets of New Haven, over some bridges and under some highways, and I awkwardly walked past all the other Mexican trucks before I found it), but it is worth the journey. This isn't your average quesadilla with meat and cheese inside a flattened tortilla. This is a giant burrito-sized tortilla covered in melty Mexican cheeses, topped with juicy, well-seasoned meat, freshly sliced avocado and lettuce and tomato, folded over and grilled to hold all that good stuff inside. The al pastor is what dreams are made of - spicy and flavorful marinated pork with chunks of sweet pineapple to balance it all out. When I was handed this wonderful creation, I squeezed some red and green hot sauces on my plate, and it was heaven in my car as I enjoyed it parked in front of the water on Long Wharf. I was as impressed with the prices as I was with the food. $6 gets you the very satisfying quesadilla (I wrapped up half to bring home), and you can get tacos for just $1.25 each (the kind on corn tortillas with fresh onion and cilantro). read more

Delicious. Try the marinated pork (different from the shredded pork) and the chorizo tacos. They are the two best on the menu (yep, I've tried them all. Hey, they're small!). The hot sauce and avocado sauce combo is great, they are anything but stingy with the limes, and even though they only give you one corn tortilla per taco (many places do 2), they're good quality and hold together in my experience. Taco...Burrito...What's coming out of that speedo?!? So I finally made my way to the infamous Nextalli Taco Truck, which I've driven by dozens of time as race my way down the off-ramp for exit 47 on I-95 south. Why the hell haven't I come here sooner?!?! Not only was this easily identifiable black taco truck given a 5 star review from world class Yelp Eliters Emily C. and Anna E., but there are always crowds of people on this little random patch of asphalt between 95 and Long Wharf Drive. Why these Mexican eateries decided to set up shop here I will never know, but this random location doesn't deter the masses from enjoying the fantastic authentic Mexican cuisine that is whipped up in these little trucks. I had dinner plans later that night, so I didn't go with the quesadilla or burrito which I would have normally ordered. I decided to go "light" and ordered four tacos. One al pastor (pork loin), two carne asadas (steak), and one carnitas (pork). These puppies come on small soft shell tortillas and are garnished with a generous topping of cilantro and diced white onion with a thick lime wedge cut in quarters for an ergonomic juicing experience. Holy guacamole these were some good tacos. I set up shop on the little metal ledge so that I could dress my already flavorful taco's with some green and red hot sauce, which are served in giant squeeze bottles. Check out my before and after pics to see how my sauce loving ass goes a bit nuts with these self-serve squeeze bottles. I housed each mini taco in about two bites each and I could have eaten seriously 20 more. They were so light and tasty, with a brightness that came from the diced cilantro and onion that cleansed your palate and left you wanting more and more with each bite. Personally I found the carne asadas to be the best, as they were less dry and packed more flavor than their pork counterparts. All in all, I need to get my fat ass back here ASAP to try every single item on this menu, because I have sin duda que todas las comidas aqui es fantastico!! Oh and one extra perk about standing at that metal ledge on the side of the truck is that you get a peeping tom view of the cooking action inside the truck. These two dudes must really love each other, because they share a 4x2 foot space and crank out some really delectable eats while constantly conversing and having the best time ever. Oh and all four tacos were five bucks. FIVE BUCKS!! I know it's unfair to compare road side New Haven prices to NYC, but I often pay about $9 bucks for a crap salad at lunch. I've ordered quesadillas in every sort of possible restaurant and eaten a shameful amount so I'm a bit of a subject matter expert when it comes to these savory things. Trust me when I say that Nexcalli makes the best quesadillas. I mean it! They are served in the perfect half moon shaped (the only way to serve real quesadillas) and stuffed with REAL Oaxaca cheese. The U.S. has adapted many variations of quesadillas but Nexcalli stays true to its roots. The pork carnita quesadilla is a must try. For $7 you'll get the best quesadilla there is in CT stuffed with roasted and refried pork that took hours to prepare. Worth it. read more

I honestly don't know if this is the specific truck I went to- there are usually at least four, all parked right next to each other here. My friend and I were driving back to New York and stopped here. We split up- she got three tacos at the yellow truck, I got a burrito at the most silver truck. Her tacos and my burrito were great... I mean AMAZING. I think better than most mexican places I've been to in New York. Deciding we couldn't make a fair decision without trying ALL the trucks, we each ordered a taco from the other two trucks. They were not as good as my burrito from the silver truck, or the tacos from the yellow truck, but they were still really good. All in all I don't think you can go wrong stopping at this place -- the food is cheap, good, and the people who stop by here seem friendly- I got into a few conversations while waiting on line. I'm still a fan of the apparently renamed Mexicali truck, but I've decided to downgrade to 4 stars. I've come to conclude that the value proposition here isn't tremendous, especially after prices were raised at some point in 2014 (the menus posted in the photos are out of date). Tacos are $1.50 now, so that a plate of four is $6 rather than $5. Everything else is $1 more than it was earlier. Burritos at $7 and $8 are priced okay, but don't present a tremendous bargain in my mind. The winning items here are the quesadillas ($7), which are excellent and I think a bit more filling than 4 tacos. But this gets back to my original point -- if you're genuinely hungry, 4 tacos may not suffice, and even the quesadilla makes for a moderately sized meal. read more

I was in the mood for Tacos that day, and that is what I decided to have. After a brief conversation with the owner, I decided to try 4 different types of tacos: Carne Asada, Carnita, Enchilada and Pollo. And rather excitedly, I blurted out my request to try both the sauces. The tacos did not take long to get made and I got to enjoy the L.I. Sound waterviews while I waited. When my order was up, I was handed a plate with these 4 small tacos (this ain't Taco Bell people!). Handmade, fresh and really soft tacos....they tasted someone's seasoned and experienced Mexican grandma had just made them. So authentic! Filled with four different meats that I had chosen and topped with fresh onions, cilantro and get this ..... grilled jalapeno peppers! Lemon wedges on the plate smelt so inviting that I could not resist picking them up immediately and squeezing them generously over my tacos. What a dynamite blast of flavor in something so tiny! Tangy, spicy, salty and sweet flavors hit me all at once! Proportions of the onions is just right - to add the perfect sweet crunch but not overwhelm the rest of the flavor profile. The meats were well seasoned - although some were a bit on the dry side. Not sure if it was a one-time error (as I have only eaten there once). I liked the Enchilada (pork) the best. With so many choices, it was overwhelming, but we Yelped it, and decided to choose a few tacos from Nextalli. The husband I loved both the al pastor and carnitas tacos - a bit of a wait because there were a few people also waiting for their orders - but worth it! Both were flavorful - and actually had different flavors and spices - which seems nearly impossible at taco places or restaurants. They'll sit easy on a West Coast palate, and they are by far the best tacos available in a 2 hour+ radius. I would urge you to stop by, especially if you're traveling 95 midday, looking for food, and not all that interested in New Haven apizza. (Crazy, but it could happen.) Or you're visiting the Ikea.
