This was my first visit here - and a little bit different for me; I've been to vegetarian restaurants before but this was my first vegan/veggie Indian restaurant. That last part may be important as I had this described as vegan only by a number of people - there are definitely a lot of vegetarian options as well. ... and very nice it was, too. A few items worthy of note: They do serve alcohol - not an enormous range, but good enough for most I would think. The menu is *vast* and worthy of inspection online beforehand (some of it is on their website - although not everything is listed) and/or just ask the waiter for recommendations - its worth asking that, anyway :) As I have already tipped - the popadom dips are amazing! We didn;t book, but while you can just turn up, the usual applies here in that it's worth either going a bit early or phoning ahead (there were post-its in the tables so I assume that they will take reservations). As for my actual experience there, very chilled and no rush felt at all from the waiters. I didn't feel like I was being rushed through dinner and the evening as a whole. The starters are quite large - particularly the 'mixed grill sharing platter'. Main courses are not so huge, although there is plenty. I had a banana-based dish (no idea what it was called) which while very nice, I did feel a bit over-banana'd around half way through. Its definitely worth taking advantage of the wide variety of indian breads that they have on offer. I'm marking it down one star as it wasn't quite as tasty as I've had before, and I didn't have that 'I just want to go back tomorrow' feeling - but definitely worth a visit.

I got lost looking for the restaurant after my phone died but finally found my friend at the top of the steps leading down to Earth. Service is set up like a cafeteria, and for just £7 you can pick 4 items from the line (up to 2 "mains".) I think everything in the line and dessert counter is vegan - I was struggling to find dairy/egg items in the menu. I feel like it's more palatable for them to sell themselves as a vegetarian rather than vegan restaurant. I picked up a hearty bean chili atop quinoa, braised cabbage, and a beautiful mushroom pie, in addition to a lime/lemongrass bottled drink and coffee/walnut cake. Portion sizes were huge and you feel very healthy eating the food - the bean chili could have used more seasoning, but the savory mushroom pie was divine! Creamy, savory, and textural, I was surprised at how well they veganized this classic. The cabbage was like tame sauerkraut, which cut the richness of the pie well. The cake was mildly sweet but had a wonderful bitter aftertaste, the scent of ground coffee lingering in my palate long after I finished the last bite. I had a taste of my friend's raw blueberry cheesecake and we had quite a bit of fun trying to guess what they made it out of. It was alright - I would've wanted to try the raw tiramisu, if they had it.

This place was intimate, romantic, and had great vibes and atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our…read moretime here, and the food was top notch for vegans in the UK!

If you…read morewish to snooze through the following transmission I fully understand, but should you choose to, then know that you will miss out on OMG SPLAWSOME FTW. For the very first time I was having a main meal at Fuel. A proper dinner. Not a snack, not a smoothie. Why? Everyone I know is a cow-hide biting carnivore and refuses to come to a vegetarian restaurant with me. I know, the sods. Should I come into a windfall, I may well buy new friends, then pay for their plastic surgery so they'll look just like my old friends. I digress. My mother eats meat, but she appreciates a veggie meal just as much as she enjoys some roast chicken. So she was the perfect Fuel guest. On a lazy Saturday noon, we stopped off here before she was due to get her train back to Liverpool, ordered some of their fine coffee (which I have decided is the best coffee in all of Manchester - and they gave us a pot of hot steamed milk with our Americanos which just makes them even brillianter) and perused the menu. After much deliberation and peering over at other diners' breakfasts with a mixture of intrigue and trepidation (those things are HUGE, people), I went for the blackboard special - stuffed peppers with cous cous and a Mexican side salad. My interest was piqued as to what the salad would contain. My mum opted for the 'fish' finger sandwich, and we had their mixed sweet and normal potato wedges between us. So, the 'fish' finger sandwich, huh? You're curious, I can tell. Well, in the immortal words of one Charles Sheen, WINNING! They use breadcrumbed halloumi, served with homemade tartare sauce on a wholemeal granary bun with a delicious side salad. I of course tasted this. Seriously, if you have any doubts, even really big ones, you've got to order it. It works. It works like a dream. My baked stuffed peppers with fruity cous cous and a salad below containing kidney beans, red peppers, spring and red onion was an absolute treat too. Nobody wanted to kiss me afterwards, but that was fine. I didn't need human contact. I had epic salad. Fuel just keeps getting better every time I try something new, and I'm insanely lucky to have it a mere short stroll down the road. I promise I'll never take it for granted.

Those were also delicious (the serving sizes weren't large, although certaily sufficient) and the hummus was probably the best we've ever tasted. The pita bread was warm and very tasty. The two servers were *super*-nice young guys. The interior of the restaurant is very attractive, with lots of art and some photos on the walls. Also, the restroom was spotless. Located in front of The Didsbury pub and a short walk away from my favourite Botanical garden (Fletcher Moss) this intimate Greek foodie haven is already a favourite with the locals. All the Tapas looked delicious so we decided (between the 4 of us) to go for the 8 for £40 deal and add more if necessary. Predictably My favourites included Lamb chops, Mussels and Funghi in blue cheese sauce. Admittedly this particular visit was more about catching up with friends rather than focusing on food. This meant that amidst flowing conversation the Tapas was gone before we knew it and our collective recollection of the food was hazy at best. (The Vino didn't help) Look out for a more detailed review after the next visit. All in all the vibe was fantastic though and I highly recommend this place for a quiet intimate dinner.

Most people around us were here with friends and pints some sharing a board - "like they do in France" - of cheese and bread. We tipped for great service. Just a nice local place where you can expect to bump into your neighbours and come home far too late at night. I forgot to ask them about their bread: gorgeous sourdough bread. We had a great time and snored a lot that night... JB Why not 5 stars: I know it was Friday night. I know it s England. But may be the music was still a bit loud for a 8pm meal.
