I was amazed at how well it looks. The garden is beautiful in ornamental style. The Oldest House Museum is located in St. Augustine, Florida in St. Johns County, Florida. It is operated by the St. Augustine Historical Society and includes the González-Alvarez House, the Manucy Museum of local history and the Edwards Gallery. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person for the guided tour and lasts about 1/2 hour.

Fascinating! When my…read moreson said he wanted to go to this I was a tad apprehensive since I have a weak stomach with anything dealing with the human body. But WOW...this is amazing! It is extremely well done and informative. Please keep in mind these are real bodies and real body parts. People and families have donated their bodies or loved ones, so please be respectful. No pictures or videos are allowed. Ever wonder what you are feeling here? Or there? Or...what's in there? Or where is "that" located? You may be surprised at what lies beneath your skin unless you have taken a course, are a doctor, nurse, etc. or are in any other field/profession that required a course in anatomy. Most of us just don't know or we Google it. With that said, we think we know or may know...but this exhibit really lets you know everything and if it's not addressed, ask the staff a question. The exhibit shows you the inner parts and workings of the human anatomy. It is very "human" for the lack of a better term and everyone can connect with this exhibit in some way. They have healthy things on display and the way it "should look" and have sliced things down...quite literally...so you can see everything going on inside. They have not-so-healthy items on display as well so you can see the difference and the impact. The life cycles of the fetuses was extremely informative...and yes, emotional. Seeing what the impact of being an athlete or smoker can have on the body is quite intriguing. These are only a few things, but there is much more in this small venue. I highly recommend this exhibit. Young or old...child and adults alike "get something" from this display. It helps all of us understand what is going on with us individually or each other. It is quite compelling to say the least. It is located across the street from the Old Jail and next to the Subway. There is plenty of free parking (for guest only) and tickets can be bought on site. Children under 4 are free...and yes, children love this. I made a joke about it since I was concerned about myself, but I saw it firsthand...they are very interested in it. There is a Senior & Veteran discount as well. Please note there is no restroom onsite, not even for guests. He had a little attitude when giving us a tour of the museum. We're not sure if he still works there because that happened a while ago. He definitely did not give us a good impression of his work ethic. Please coach your tour guides how to behave in a professional way. He was incredibly knowledgeable, super informative, and one of the funniest, most entertaining tour guides we've ever had. His storytelling, sense of humor, and interaction with the group brought the history to life. Without a doubt, this was one of the highlights of our trip to St. Augustine. We couldn't stop laughing while still learning so much about the jail's fascinating history. I highly recommend this tour to all of our family and friends. If you get the chance, make sure you see Louis--he's definitely a character! We can't say enough good things about the experience. Employees like Louis are a huge asset and deserve to be recognized and taken care of. Thank you for making our visit so memorable!

If you're in St. Augustine, The Old Jail should absolutely be on your list of things to see. It's a…read morefascinating little trip into Florida's history and conveniently located within walking distance of the Fountain of Youth. Of course, if you actually drank from the Fountain of Youth, then technically everything is within walking distance. The Old Jail itself is well maintained and gives you a real glimpse into what life was like behind bars back in the day. There's plenty of history here, and it's the kind of place that makes you appreciate modern conveniences like air conditioning, comfortable beds, and not being locked in a tiny cell. Our guide, unfortunately, tried a little too hard to get into character and crossed the line from entertaining into just plain creepy. I appreciate the effort, but there were moments when I wasn't sure if we were learning about the inmates or about to become them. Even with that, I'm still giving The Old Jail four stars. With a more relatable guide, this could easily have been a five-star experience.

Wow, what an amazing experience and a wealth of information I received from the Fort Mose historic…read morestate park. My parents and I came here for a Black History Month event as they are commemorating the month with the flight of freedom. This is a journey of how enslaved people came to Fort Mose to obtain freedom. I only knew of this place as the Underground Railroad, based on my ancestry, knowing that my ancestors came from the Carolinas and Georgia down to this area, but I learned so much more in the short period of time I was there. This particular weekend showcase a reenactment, and teaches the story of individuals who trekked the long and perilous paths to be free from enslavement. From different stops with a real Yamasee Indian who was the chief of the tribe. He gave us a deep and in depth history of the Yamasee Indians and their role in the flight to freedom. During the reenactment, we made different stops along the way and the end we got to watch a demonstration of the soldiers shooting and firing off the canon. It was a very emotional experience and much needed - we need to learn from the past and continue to teach this type of history. Before the experience, my parents and I did have the opportunity to stop into the visitor center, which cost about $2. It definitely gives a timeline of events during the start of colonization and Florida, however it also has a lot of artifacts that were discovered in Saint Augustine from the 1700s and onward. Definitely make a stop here while visiting the city!

Fort Mose Historic State Park is the most underrated attraction in St. Augustine. People seem to…read morecome here for only part of a history lesson-the more palatable part that that doesn't remind them of one of the greatest stains of American history - slavery. Yes, I said it. While all the other attractions in St. Aug are prominently advertised and well catered to and attended, I heard nothing of this state park or the history surrounding it beside a blurb on a map and sign on the street. I've heard more advertising for BBQ joints in the area than this state park. Despite the rain on a Sunday, I ventured here for the museum and unfortunately didn't get to go to the rebuilt fort itself or the surrounding marsh/walkways (dang mama nature). Museum and film were very enlightening and I learned so much that I never was taught in school. I loved the interactive displays and hearing people's stories. Museum was set up so well and very informative without being too much of an info dump. The park ranger Billy was amazing. He went above and beyond when my husband had a medical issue and even exposed himself to rain to help us out. Such a beautiful friendly person. Overall, this hidden gem needs to be advertised more. And at only $2 it is a steal.
