These artisans, hand selected, earn their full year's income at this one event. That sets up a few ethical issues you'll want to consider before you attend: Artisans are selected by mostly white Americans, and the process for selection isn't always made transparent. Artisans who earn money at Folk Art then return to their home countries far richer than any of their peers, which sets up an odd wealth dynamic there. Suddenly, the one who attended Folk Art is the richest in the community, but that wealth may not necessarily be merit based. The Folk Art sets artisans, many of them from the developing world, up to rely completely on a Western market, and an unsustainable one at that - just imagine all the jet fuel required to get everyone to this market. Instead of reinforcing the market in their home countries, the Folk Art is training these folks to depend on rich Westerners. And if you're selected one year but not the next, imagine the financial stress - all dependent on the word of a largely white organization in the USA. In general, the market reeks a bit of cultural tokenism. You'll find yourself shoulder to shoulder with wealthy, tacky people from around the world who clamor greedily from shop to shop. There's a sense of urgency at the market, and everyone's really pushy and frenetic. I usually leave exhausted and depressed, and it's sad to see how gross rich people can be.

There were just too many people because of the 100th year and attendance should of been limited for safety. We essentially were packed in like sardines and could not move. The food lines were outrageous, and the limited number of portable toilets with limited lighted was unacceptable. The 2nd security screening made entry slow and backed up. There was one improvement and positive. The drone shows added this year were a great addition to the fireworks. Overall, we were disappointed at 2024s burning.

I bought the best seats and we ordered dinner when we got there, definitely go right at opening, we were late and they almost did not serve us dessert. For dinner we had the Chicken in Lemon Sauce, and the Pork Roast. It came with veggies and a side potato salad. I also ordered the Spanish Omelette which we liked. And I ordered the Assorted cheese board which we loved. For dessert we had the flan, and vanilla ice cream, which was simple but a nice way to end the meal. The show was fantastic, loved the dancers in their costumes, and the live flamenco guitarist was marvelous. Excellent show, well worth it and very much, a treat.

That was very interesting to see. The market itself had a nice array of fresh produce, food, and artists' work. It was cool getting to see them roasting fresh chile and the band that played was soo much fun! The best booth for us was Dancing Turtle Studio. Absolutely stunning pieces of art and my guy bought me one of the hot air balloon pieces to commemorate our 1st anniversary. It honestly couldn't have been more perfect! The artist herself was incredibly sweet and wonderful to talk with. It was amazing getting to hear about her process as well!

HOWEVER, sometimes organizations can get lazy when the environment provides the backdrop. For the price they charge for tickets, which pretty much relegates the audience to upper class elderly people, the Opera company could do better. 1) Summers can be hot and the seats in the rear receive no air flow. Even when it's somewhat cool outdoors, it is hot and stuffy and very uncomfortable in the venue. Get some engineers in and think about how to rectify this. Remove some wall panels? Add some fans? This can be improved. 2) I paid $7 for a small plastic cup of sparkling water and was rudely stopped at the door ("Hey!"-- train your employees not to say "hey." I get more professional service at Chik-fil-A.) at told I couldn't take my water inside this sauna of an auditorium. You're that worried that a bunch of adults-- there are no kids because it's too expensive-- will spill a drink on the concrete floor? 3) Did I mention it's hot? The program they hand out is essentially a book. I've never seen such thick programs. Too thick to adequately fan yourself. So why not distribute some cardboard fans with sponsor advertisements? Or make a perforated fan on the back cover of this program book that could be punched out. 4) No photography? I don't think a venue full of octogenarians will be taking a bunch of selfies or trying to sell bootleg recordings. Ease up on the controlling behavior, how about? 5) The parking situation is chaotic. They hire a bunch of kids who barely look 15 to stand around waving their arms. Cars are going all over the place. One girl was waving in the opposite direction that traffic was driving. They don't have headsets to talk to one another and aren't directing cars to go space by space. These kids need more training. A lot more training. 6) The opera itself was ok. But, why not have a host come out on stage before it starts to welcome the audience, maybe give a brief overview of the story, introduce the conductor, etc? Overall, the production, staff, and experience was sub-par. The venue is lovely, and I would advise people to drive up and just have a look around, but I did that once to show an out-of-town guest and a security guard immediately shooed us off. (We weren't even getting out of the car; I just wanted him to see the space and view.) So, no, you can't even enjoy that.

El Rancho de las Golondrinas Is to New Mexico what Colonial Williamsburg is to Virginia, though a…read morebit smaller in size and historical importance. During the 17th and 18th centuries, this was the last stop on the Santa Fe Trail right before arriving in that city. Visiting this "living museum", you get something of a feel for what it might have been like to live in a time when it took many months for caravans traveling the Santa Fe Trail to reach their destination. The living areas, workshops, farm, and animal pens give visitors a look at the hard lives of those who blazed the trail for the settlement of this part of the American Southwest. If you're traveling with children, you'll find that there are walks (both short and long) through the property with space for children to explore and run. Situated only about 20 minutes South of Santa Fe and accessible from I-25, the site is good to visit year-round, but in the Summer months it's probably best to come in the mornings while the temperature remains below 90+ degrees.

You will do a lot of walking, because it is a distance between exhibits. I saw someone say this place is dusty, well YES it's an historical village. Kids can really get exercise & will love the water mill. We plan to go again during the harvest festival. The historical volunteer experts were outstanding & a wealth of knowledge. There are lots of shade trees If you bring a picnic lunch. This place is very much worth the drive. Tips: good walking shoes, water, hats, suntan lotion, walking sticks (because of rough terrain if needed) Go early to beat the heat....

There's this scrappier, slightly rough-around-the-edges feel compared to the newer installations, and I think that's part of its charm. We actually went out of our way to visit New Mexico just for this, which says a lot - and I'll say it was worth it. However it did leave wishing for a bit more, especially knowing how expansive and polished the newer Meow Wolf locations have become. But in a weird way, it made me appreciate the evolution of the experience even more. You can really see how much the artists and teams have grown across locations, and how much love and intention is going into what they're building now. This location certainly helps you understand the whole Meow Wolf story a little better!

My only complaint was that tickets online seemed priced different than tickets in person and seemed to change price depending on the day/time. We came about 3 hours prior to closing and this was more than enough time for us to fully enjoy the place and see everything. They do have a bar out front to the side before you enter as well and a gift shop. I have attended their other location in Las Vegas, so it was fun to compare it to this location and see how different they are all around. This location definitely is smaller in size and very different in theme, but still cool to see.
