I share how much I appreciate Coastal with friends and even ppl I just met who bring up wanting to homeschool but unsure where or how to start... well Coastal and Classical offer so many choices and leaders that will meet with you and help you decide. They have different options and last year introduced yet another! Our oldest tried it last year and enjoyed it so we've experienced two choices and love both. So if you are trying to decide what's best for your family, I encourage you to reach out to Coastal or a Classical Academy close to you. Another helpful bit of info, they have a zero bullying policy that they actually implement! They talk with the student and parents immediately not allowing it to go on and on. Thankfully our children haven't experienced bullying at Coastal, but overheard a child saying something like another child isnt smart and immediately a teacher called the children to talk with them and the one apologized. In 4 years that is all our children have witnessed. That's how I wish all schools could be but friends have shared so many truly disturbing experiences at other places and little consequences. Several have moved their children to homeschooling full time because of them being bullied. Coastal teachers and volunteers have all been so kind and strive to give kids a welcoming place to learn and have fun while learning. Feel free to message me as well. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, the campus is clean and beautiful, and the overall atmosphere is calm, joyful, and thoughtfully run. The curriculum is fantastic--our kids enjoy yoga, sports, reading class, and so much more. The school also provides healthy and delicious meals daily, which has been a huge relief for us as busy parents. Even better? The kids love the food! As for their teachers--Mrs. Gina and Ms. Stephanie are absolutely wonderful. You can tell they truly care about their students and pour so much effort into making each day special. Further, only having half-day kindergarten is really frustrating when you only find out the Friday before school starts that your kid is in the PM class. And to add salt to that wound, the PM kids have to come to class on Wednesdays at 8:15. This makes it really difficult to set a schedule for your child and only the kids put into the PM class are affected by this. I feel like this certainly will have *some* impact on academics.

I personally witnessed him physically pushed to the ground and punched by a group of kids, the yard teacher said " what did you do to make them hurt you?". He came home with scratches so bad on his body that he thought he had a sunburn. I told the principal and there was no action, only offered a school councilor "three times a week" for my KINDERGARTNER. This is just the tip of the iceberg for how incredibly awful this school, its leadership & the faculty were. I moved him schools & he has been doing amazing ever since. DO NOT put your child in this school. I don't have enough words to express on here how much of a genuine nightmare it was, and this experience set my son up to hate & resent school, created a deep sense of self hatred & self consciousness that has stuck with him. BEWARE, this is not a no-tolerance or safe space for children to learn in.

The hilltop location is the pride of all the schools in the city. Oceanside High may have the beach down the street, but this is the best. With a open field park behind and 7 foot basketball courts I always felt this place less of a prison feel than most schools. I had so many memories of this place growing up, my entire youth basically. I definitely spent more time here than the average kid because of after school basketball. First fight, first kiss, first time doing illegal substances (relax, this was in the summertime and just me and my friends, nothing to do with school) I absolutely had the best teachers around, many of which i still keep in contact with 20+ years later. If your reading this you are probably looking to place your kids here and the game has changed so much there are probably better resources to decide with. Bounce it, bounce it.
