First of all the programs provided/academic classes are very good but bad execution. What I mean by that is a good amount of teachers are NOT good. When I say not good I mean NOT good at all. Many students complain about the same teachers each year. They definitely have one of the best Visual arts program (Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Broadcasting, Dance, Photography, Filmmaking, Stage Tech. I felt welcomed in this community, all the teachers are amazing in Visual Arts. The math teachers are not good at all so be aware. Only 2 out of the 6, from the year I went, actually taught me instead just posting notes and hoping you understand or just being a terrible teacher. Mind you many students have complained NUMEROUS times for many years about the same 2 math teachers and they are still teaching at that school. The atmosphere is supposed to be welcoming and inclusive but sadly a lot of students make that impossible every year. This is not a normal highschool experience. That can be okay sometimes but in this case, the negatives out weight the positives. When you voice that you are being bullied, or other concerns that conflict with your mental health they brush it off. They do not care about mental health here AT ALL. This school is filled with outcasts who 110% struggle with mental health problems and they don't do jack about it. It is frustrating dealing with faculty and administrators because they never do anything. Not all but most. Bullying is a real thing here but everyone refuses to deny it cause its "a very welcoming community". A friend of mine once reported someone for threatening to kill them selves and they brushed it off like it was nothing, multiple times, on many different occasions. The least they can do is send them to counseling and at least try to speak to the student. Most students wont say anything but just having someone reaching out and showing that they care is a huge step. When a serious allegation is reported, the faculty doesn't even try. During my time at Santa Su, a sexual assault allegation was going around. Many students knew and so did the school but they did NOTHING. No investigating, interviewing bystanders, nothing. Much help is needed in the administration department Students start drama here way more than an average highschool. Anywhere you go there will be drama and rumors but ere it is times 2. Any rumors started, spread like wildfire and can ruin ur whole experience at Santa Su. So be aware. The yearbook seems to always get worse every year. Senior baby photos and senior quotes are something students look forward to. They promise it every year I was there, and never actually add it in the yearbook which is just very disappointing. They make up stuff you never even said. The school itself is always disorganized. Santa Su is for smart students, to be honest. They don't really have good help for people who actually need some or are just an average student looking for help. Its not inclusive as it says it is. Yes, its a magnet school but don't advertise you are all inclusive if you cant even help your students who need it. This is from average students perspective. read more

I've been going here for four years my freshman year was amazing. It was outstanding with everything above and beyond my expectations for high school, and then the old principal for 2021 left and over the past three years it's continued to change almost every year and just keeps going downhill. Freshman year I would've tried to convince everyone I could to come to SSHS, now I tell them to run. The math department besides for Mrs Saucerman and Mrs Hazelwood and Mr Duda are horrible. Those three teachers are the only way you'll learn anything. I haven't learned anything and have been set back by Mrs Avavilli and the geometry teacher Mrs G. They don't teach us they give notes and then teach us incorrectly and extremely slowly. We don't learn. We're being held back by our educators and it's hurting our future. I've started to give up on classes and just teach myself topics via my own textbooks that I buy, watching videos on topics with real teachers and even have been tutoring others since the teachers can't seem to. It's bad the administration keeps getting worse and worse by the year. read more

Very left wing, entitled, something-for-nothing-expecting political atmosphere. "The world owes me a living" said the Grasshopper to the ant is the school motto. OK, that's a stretch but close. Plus: The kids like it. Colleges admissions like Santa Susana too. Minus: Bureaucratic, disorganized, frustrating dealing with faculty and administrators. No faculty member or administrator seems to know what's going on with anything school related outside the classroom. Can't be us, other parents had no clue how to negotiate the red tape either. Like going to the DMV. Consensus is staff hides behind the red tape. Just start filling out forms and hope it gets to the right people. Forget talking to the faculty or Admin. It'll never happen. Santa Su is for self motivated, smart kids. Not for kids who's parents blame their child's learning problems and issues on others. Also if your child is stupid, lazy or a trouble maker they won't make it here. Santa Susana School is not for everyone. read more

So my daughter came to SSH for her freshman year and although she mostly liked it, she decided to go to Simi High for her sophomore year. She really wanted the "high school" experience with games and dances and this school was a little too liberal for her taste. The teachers were mostly great, especially the French teacher, whom she was able to go to France and will forever be a highlight in her life. The basic art teacher was not her favorite, and actually made her not want to do art,(which was one of the reasons she choose this school) However, the education here is fantastic and very rigorous. As a parent I had mixed feelings, while I loved the education, I really feel it wasn't a good fit for the typical student, however, this is a great school for those who have a solid direction such as dramatic arts, technology and law aspirations. It is a very welcoming school for those who are unique, as it seems to be a place where kids feel safe to be themselves. I have two friends with autistic children (high functioning) who found friends and a good direction here. Also, of the three high schools, colleges look fondly on this school and it is easier to get into a more prestigious school with an education here, rather than Royal or Simi High. read more

Somebody made sexual assault allegations against a guy, all of the students knew about it, all of the girls (including me), were scared for our safety. Nothing happened. What I mean by that is there was no investigation and the school did absolutely nothing to inform students or make us feel more safe. Completely unresolved until he graduated. Then the only resolution was the fact that he was gone. I went to the office about this myself, the assistant principal at the time (I forget her name but she also mishandled some very serious instances sexual assault I faced.), told me in a very uneasy tone of voice "she took her allegations back.".... like, okay. First of all, don't just tell that to me like you're expecting me to tell the rest of the school. Childish as all hell. Second of all, that literally doesn't matter. Launch an investigation. This is violent physical sexual assault we're talking about. I've been a lot more outspoken about this and other Santa Su students (former and present) have come to me with their stories. And then there's me and my story. You absolutely damaged me, Santa Su. I was a freshman and you turned a situation where I was being victimized into one where you humiliated me in front of my own father and left it at that. Shame on you. More people are hearing my story. More people are hearing OUR STORIES. Get used to seeing the hashtag #FUSantaSu, Santa Susana High School, you're going to see it a lot. Sequoia jr high school was a great school! Only 7-8th grade when I attended here back in 1996. It is now Santa Susana High school still located in the same place. In 96 they made 9th grade part of high school in the SMUSD, so they needed another high school sacrificing a jr high school. I went to Simi High the following year because this was a magnet school, no sports. read more

The programs offered at this school are terrific. The staff and faculty really care about the kids and do their job with esprit de corps with each other and the students. The culture of the students is something different. As a parent, exercise caution. My son is pleasant and well liked by all. But because of expressing moderately conservative political / social views he was labeled "racist" and a "Nazi" and ostracized by many of the students. Perhaps in the student's minds Reagan was a Nazi too. I do not blame the school, but it's a different environment for some young people. While there may not be "bullying" as an issue at SSHS, the "non-judgement" and free-thinking atmosphere seems to include a "check your mind at the door" policy and if and do have a strong conviction about anything that upsets the direction of the students. While the school is educating the kid's values may run off on your child. Parents should pay attention to your son or daughter anyway, but particularly at SSHS. read more
