I can not recommend Santom enough! From the moment I walked in, the whole staff was amazing and so welcoming! They gave me suggestions on upholstering my dining chairs and even offered a variety of fabrics for me to choose from that were more budget friendly. I'll start with the single positive thing I can say about this business- the guy who works the office/showroom is flawless. He was friendly and helpful when I dropped my tables off and was just as friendly, even remembering our conversation, 3.5 months later when I picked them up. Unfortunately, none of the services provided aside from that were acceptable in any way.  I moved to town in January and had 2 tiny antique wood tables I wanted refinished. I went to Yelp and Google for reviews before choosing a place and picked this business based on the reviews alone. The location is very inconvenient but it was worth it for quality work, so I dropped these tables off in early January with no rush to get them done.  Last week I received an emailed invoice and a message that the tables were ready (3.5 months... 2 tiny wood tables). The first catch was the cost being higher than the "high quote" I was given in January (which I raised back then as being rather high and questioning the hours estimated). The bill issued- $727 to glue all the joints, sand, and stain the 2 tables the same shade- much, much darker than the original. This is key because there was no paint to strip, nor did the sanding or stripping need to be perfect for a lighter stain. And there is no details on these tables; they are both very simple lines and plainly constructed. The job wasn't difficult in the least.  I was immediately irritated and asked for details about the invoice, within minutes of receiving it, because it was so high for such simple work on truly tiny, basic tables. The first reply (also within minutes) was that the quote was correct. When I didn't email again right away another email from the same person said they would inquire further about the cost and hours worked on the job by the guys who did the work. I replied the same day that I'd appreciate that detail and that I'd be in today to get the tables. And... days pass but no update or details about the invoice. I make a special trip out to pick up the tables today, fully expecting that for $700 and 3.5 months, these tables will be expertly refinished. I'm still irritated at the cost but am optimistic about the quality. Running to do this errand before heading to work, I'm in a hurry and in no mood to argue the invoice, handed to me without any of the promised details and not adjusted in the least. It was as though I'd not even raised the issue previously and I wasn't going to argue it then. I wrote a check for the balance (they don't take cards in 2018) and the friendly guy helped me the load the tables into my car. I did not inspect them then; it's almost an hour drive from the shop to my office and nothing was amiss at first glance in my hurry to get to work.  As shown in the photos, my $700 refinishing job has large, obvious drips in the stain/gloss on both tables. There are fingerprints in the stain on one, thin spots showing through the old stain on both, thick and visible glue underneath (but not finished edges- because to stain the edges takes so much longer?), and VERY visible, deep staple holes in multiple places. There were no such holes on these tables before and it's clear that they didn't care enough to seal the holes after placing the staples through the exterior of the joints. The sealant was either too thick or not applied well (honestly not sure which because I didn't inspect the tables until I got home tonight) but in any event has already chipped off corners on both edges of the table placed in the fully carpeted cargo area of my car on the ride home.  The overall effect is that $700 and 3.5 months later, I have to fix or have fixed by someone else, the numerous places where this refinishing work fails. I'm speechless at how blatantly poor the quality and for a seriously premium price, and I'm beyond frustrated there is no remedy for service issues like this. Poor products you can return, but poor service you're just stuck paying to subsidize. I will not be returning to this business and I can't recommend it to anyone, for any purpose. Except for the showroom guy, who is most definitely a wasted asset. read more

Santom did an amazing job on my dining room table. It was in pretty bad shape but the staff completely fixed the legs, added screws so it was stable and restained the entire table. It looks beautiful and I couldn't be happier with the result! They also helped me with alternative solutions to fix the table to save me money. As an interior designer I worked with an extensive list of upholstery companies. Working with Santom Upholstery I had worst experience ever.. I was very disappointed with the poor quality of the Santom Upholstery work and their customer service. The work they performed was totally unacceptable. The final invoice had so many additional charges and looked absolutely confusing. The final charge was almost double of the amount their quoted in the estimate. Also, I agree with other person review, the company's working space is so dirty that newly reupholstered furniture should be professionally cleaned right away. read more

I have used Santom's for numerous upolstery projects and also furniture refinishing. They are very courteous and prompt with both estimates and turn-around with the finished products. They are great with pick up and delivery. They refinished a piece of furniture with replacement veneer and the estimate came was far below a well known Pittsburgh Furniture Refinishing company! This 5 star recommendation is way overdue! I had 4 chairs re upholstered 3 years ago and they turned out beautifully! We use them in our family room daily and they still look like they are brand New! The workmanship is the very highest quality! They delivered right on time to my home in the busiest time of year.... Thanksgiving eve!!! It's nice to know there are businesses who are able to take pride of the finished product! We are absolutely satisfied with the whole experience from start to finish!!!! read more

I have had several pieces of furniture either upholstered or refinished at Santom Upholstery and Refinishing. Each piece has turned out beautifully. So much so that I had an antique chair reupholstered as a gift for my new daughter-in-law and I entrusted them with a family heirloom and I am so glad I did. I've gotten many compliments. I wish I could post a picture. I have recommended them several times each person who has used them has thanked me. Besides the work being completed perfectly the women in the showroom is so helpful when it comes to choosing a fabric. I just tell her what colors and style I am thinking of and she takes the time to show me several options. She is knowledgeable which helps with getting a pattern that compliments the furniture. I have used their service for years including this year and I couldn't be happier with their work. read more

I was very disappointed with the work performed by Santom. I left a table with them for 2 months and it was not finished when promised or repaired as promised. The cost for refinishing the top of the table was outrageous at 454.00.Do not use these people unless you want incomplete work at a very unfair cost. Beth C read more

I had my mother's chairs re-upholstered through Santom. I received a written estimate, so I thought that I was covered as far as the end result. I wanted to have the arms removed off 2 of the chairs and had them take care of it. I asked for that to be included in the quote as I didn't want to damage the chairs myself. They didn't attach a price to that part of the estimate, as I was told that it was such a little thing to do, and they wouldn't charged for it. Well, come time to pay the final bill, there was an additional $105 added to the bill for 2 hours and 20 minutes of labor- supposedly to refinish the chairs after the arms were removed. I know for a fact that the chairs were not re-finished as they only started working on my chairs on Friday morning and I was able to pick them up on Friday afternoon. The chairs were not re-finished. I advised that I was told to my face that they weren't going to charge for the removal when I picked them up and I was told that they would have never have said that. Also, when you sit in the chairs you can hear air going out of the cushions. I am hoping that this will stop with use. I am very disappointed in the end result. These chairs were 30+ years old as something that my mom passed down to me. Find another upholstery company or do it yourself- probably could have done what was done here. read more

Over the past year I have had Santom Upholstery work on seven pieces of old or antique furniture. The customer service and work have been excellent. I had three chairs reupholstered, a settee repaired, two chairs re-webbed, and a cushion made for a chair. The work was beyond my expectations and the furniture looks finely finished. The chair cushion was made to match the contour of the chair-not just a square or round pillow. I have more pieces to be done and have a friend who has antique furniture that she is going to have them do based upon my recommendation and the work she saw they had done for me. The furniture was picked up and delivered in a timely manner. The people were pleasant and easy to work with. I was able to do much with them online which was very helpful. The final invoices were in line with estimates I had been given and I felt the prices were reasonable. I recommend Santom Upholstery. read more
