The lanes are divided into two sections, where in between it is the restrooms. There are various arcade games available to keep you occupied if you are waiting for your games/lanes. There's also a pool table and an air hockey table around. I'm pretty sure the place will be packed during weekends. From the first few throws, it did felt like the lane isn't as oily anymore. However, since we went there in the evening, it's common for lanes to run dry. It makes no difference to me though. I'm no curler nor spinner. I'm just your average straight ball down the middle guy. So long as i hit the sweet spot, the pins will go down.;) I also find the staff in the Centre are all very polite and genuinely interested in providing you a service. What is it about the Royal Adelaide Show? When it is announced I feel like I am 10 years old again…read more For sure it has changed dramatically since I was a child, but there is still a sense of excitement in it. I can see that kids are still as excited about it as what I was when I was younger. I remember planning months ahead of my Royal Show visit. Getting the paper and highlighting animal shows and all show bags I wanted. Well, I may not be that organised anymore, but I still plan out what attractions to see. They are right when they say, "there is so much to see and do at the Royal Adelaide Show". In fact, there is a lot you can do for free. It is not all about showbags, candy and rides. Those things are nice, but it is also important to celebrate and learn about Horticulture and Agriculture as well. This is something that I enjoy seeing at the show. In particular, I enjoy seeing all the lovely animals and speaking to their owners. Learn about what breeds are good for agriculturally. It is fascinating. I also love seeing all the large award winning vegetables and plant displays. I think to get the most out of The Show, you need to look past the markets and showbags. Go speak to the farmers and see the entertainment set up. Check out the pig races, see the wood chopping. Enjoy the talents of individuals. Then you will remember what it is all about. But, the little dare devil in me is also attracted to the rides. I don't really buy showbags anymore. I go on rides. I am a thrill seeker. The biggest and scariest rides are the ones I go for. If I a scream laughing and leave the ride dizzy and bewildered, well I am one happy girl! My partner and I love this, it gets us in hysterics. I admire all the hard work and effort of each exhibitor and contribution to the Adelaide Royal Show. Everyone involved works extremely hard. Thank you for each year that you make South Aussies very happy!

After a 10 year hiatus, I returned to the Royal Show to relive the childhood memories. Although not…read morequite as big and bustling as I remembered it through the eyes of a child, lots of fun was had! This was my first time attending as an adult and there's actually a lot of great things aimed at adults to see and do. The food options seem to have improved a lot since I was last there and there's a gourmet selection outside the IGA pavilion. I tried a chicken pad Thai at a place called SpanThai which was a reasonable serving for $13 but a little mediocre in flavour. I also ended up going to a woodfire Bbq stall specialising in barbecued meats. I shared a crispy pork hock with bbq sauce. At $25 this was pretty good value as it was gigantic even for sharing between 2, and included chips and a drink. However, a little impossible to eat with plastic cutlery so prepare to get messy. The IGA pavilion had so much on offer to sample I could have spent the whole day in there! Amongst the delicious things I tried were Moo yogurts, Pangkarra legume snacks, Barossa fine foods meats and an extensive array of different condiments stalls. You probably don't even need lunch with all the samples. Bush Tucker Icecream is definitely worth a visit for unique bush flavours such as wattleseed, lilly pilly, quandong and strawberry gum. The guy at the stall was happy to let us try them all. Check out the photos to see descriptions of all the flavours. I can recommend the wattleseed (which is reminiscent of coffee, chocolate and hazelnut) and the Illawarra plum, although it's tough choosing as they were all very enticing. There were plenty of alcoholic beverages on offer as well. I was lucky enough to get a spot in one of the structured wine tastings as well as the cider tasting session. You get a selection of 4 or 5 to try and an expert will talk you through them. When I was a kid I remember I would get so excited combing through the showbag guide and make short lists of the showbags I might get. This year I only let myself get one and I couldn't go past a Bertie beetle bag! It was always a staple in my selection growing up so I got one for old times sake. Sadly I ran out of time to do lots of other things but I can recommend seeing the different dog breeds if you're a dog lover, so many adorable dogs to pat The cake competition and bonsais were also worth checking out. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the show this year as much as my childhood visits. It was a different experience but definitely as enjoyable!

I first visited Tandanya when I was studying Indigenous art and design at uni. The reason I'm so…read moreinterested in art isn't all that pretentious really - I just think it's a fun way to learn about other people. For me, visiting Tandanya is a great example of that. As an outsider to Indigenous culture, I don't immediately understand a lot of art made by Indigenous people. And even after I've done my research, there will always be subtexts and underlying complexities that I won't understand. I'm ok with not always 'getting it' though. The exhibitions here are as wide and varied as Indigenous culture and experience - there is no one way to sum it all up. The programming is varied - featuring local artists, artists from urban areas and rural areas all around Australia, young artists and old artists, well-known artists and little-known artists, artists using traditional techniques and artists using more experimental approaches. The galleries themselves are large and well-resourced - big beautiful rooms with wooden floors. As well as the gallery spaces, Tandanya is a general place for meeting and learning. They offer educational tours, for adult groups and student groups, a retail store that sells artworks, a professional performance space and they host community events. Set in a lovely leafy spot outside of the CBD (across from Rymill Park and on the corner of East Terrace/ Grenfell), it's a huge old building enclosing lovely spaces for exhibitions. Big and painted white with original fittings and wooden floors, the space itself is great for the varied exhibitions that come through its doors, all highlighting indigenous art and culture. Like Chloe said the shows are pretty varied - on my most recent visit I saw some exceptional photography by Ricky Maynard as well as cross stitched pieces on colonial Australia and some traditional paintings. Tandanya also runs programs and cross-cultural educational courses which I think most of growing up in SA have been a part of in high school. There's also a smallish gift shop up front (it's kind of easy to get lost and walk in there rather than the galleries first) which sells works of art and indigenous artifacts.

Holy crap this place is big…read more This is the first stadium I've been to in Australia and I am unaccustomed to the level of civility demonstrated here. First of all, either my memory is crap or I completely missed the weapons check area. I did see a pair of gentlemen get pat downs but the security pat-downers completely skipped me. Did I have to opt-in for that? Also, I had trouble scanning my ticket and no one yelled at me. They just politely sent me to another nearby ticket checker. There was no frustrated sighing or wild gesticulations. Just actual helpfulness from a people who didn't seem bothered by my existence. We had tickets to really amazing seats down at field level but again, I'm not from here and have lots of trauma from missing entire eons of game play from standing in beer lines, so my most beloved went for beer. He left and came back with still plenty of game left so I can only imagine there an efficient beer vending system the likes of which I've never seen. At one point, someone gestured to me to notice the absolute pyschos seated in the uppermost part of the stadium. I don't know who is more daring: the people who chose to watch the game from there or the people who designed that area. Lovely venue, great field, lovely security, and very well maintained. So orderly and pretty it could very well be mistaken for a figment of my imagination.

Free parking and a short downhill walk gets you to where all the action is. We started with the storybook trail, since we had a child to air out. Hardly any of the stories registered with him but he enjoyed the search for things and the little tiny houses. After, we made our way into the home to check out all the old fancy things, the randomly placed erotic artworks, old hair dryer, and pandemic-inspired Lego model. Interesting stuff. The views from the grounds are lovely, the birds loud at times, and the elephants are totally harmless.

Carrick Hill Estate at Springfield is a virtual window back in time to the lifestyle of the wealthy…read moreand well to do in the middle of last century. The house is open to the public (there is an entry fee) and still survives with many of its original contents, including artworks, on display. While you do have to pay to get into the house, entry to the grounds is free and you can wander around at your leisure. In 1935 two of Adelaide most prestigious families came together with the marriage of Ursula Barr Smith from a wealthy farming family and Bill Hayward whose family owned John Martins department store. Their wedding gift from the Barr Smith family was the land where Carrick Hill now stands. As you do, Ursula and Bill took a year long honeymoon in the UK and bought many of the fittings for the house on their travels. The house itself was built and ready to move into by 1939 and during the two years it took to construct, Ursula designed the extensive gardens. She modeled the gardens on a typical English estate and this labour of love is still there to enjoy today. During their marriage the Heywards amassed an extensive art collection including works from Sir William Dobell, Sir Russell Drysdale, Sir Jacob Epstein, Nora Heysen and John Dowie. Carrick Hill is used today for many weddings and all sorts of different functions and exhibitions and there is a café on site for the general public. If you've never been to Carrick Hill, stop by for a walk through the extensive grounds and breathe in the luxury and opulence from a bygone era.

But the stadium itself is very nice, in Adelaide we are very blessed to have 3 (AAMI, Hindmarsh and Adelaide Oval) stadiums very suited to our city. There are 2 big screens, a score/ad board, grandstand and food facilities serving the usual chips, pasties etc. But if you to watch an AFL game at AAMI (or Footy Park as it is known to most) the experience and atmosphere is very suitable for the game and Adelaide itself.

The stadium is the biggest of its kind for football in Adelaide and currently hosts all of the home games for the Adelaide Crows and the Port Adelaide Power (of whom we do not speak). Parking at the Stadium is a nightmare, there are several grassed areas that are opened for parking but all charge a toll and whilst getting in might be ok, when everyone is trying to leave at the same time at the end of the game, taking the free buses is your best option. There are lots of different routes that cover the metropolitan area and further out to the Hills and Mt Barker. The food and beverage prices are also very pricey, especially alcohol and be warned that no where takes card so take out money before you leave home or you will get stuck waiting in the huge queue of people lining up for the very few number of ATM's. Having said this, the atmosphere at the ground is amazing, and when almost at its capacity of around 50,000 the roar of the crowd is enough to make you forget you bought an expensive seat down the front and are now getting soaked with the winter storms. Prices for football tickets are also quite reasonable if attending by yourself or in a couple, but can get quite expensive if taking a large family. Season tickets are available.

The Bloods are the West Adelaide football club and if you don't know Australian culture, well this is what is is mostly - a game of football with a lot of people yelling for their team. The oval hasn't really changed a lot since back in the day. The facility is pretty good the grass is nice and compact; well looked after. Elements of the place have a nice historic feel to it, but I don't personally like all the red and black painted on the little deli or the walls, which is unfortunate because that's the team colours so it isn't going to change. The Bloods treat it well, they have a lot of training going on and various age groups gather to play the game in the hope that they will one day be big time heroes of the game. You can rest assured it is not directly connected with The Venue - part of the football club's home office, but it is... they are two separate things but they share the same bit of land. The football club is only a tenant on the land in reality. It could change in the future just like the name.

The Super-Drome is a cycling centre for training, competitions, fun etc. I went here during high school for a sports testing during PE, we got to ride around on the bikes on the slanted track, and complete fitness tests. It's a pretty cool place, to watch and get the chance to ride on. The bikes are so light and fragile, and uncomfortable to ride. But it's definitely an experience!
