Buying a home on my own for the first time (but not a first-time homebuyer), and buying for the…read morefirst time in AZ, I expected this process to be different than previous home purchases. Because of that, I expected to ask many questions along the way. I searched for an agent who would be a good communicator, honest, and informative. Unfortunately, the realtor I got with WestUSA Pinetop was not that. About halfway through the process, I learned I could have fired the realtor, but was concerned I'd lose the house. Hindsight, I should have moved on to another agency.
The interesting thing is that in researching the agent, I found out that they have a lot of success selling homes, however, they are limited in buying homes. I also find it interesting that for as long as this agent has been in the business, there are no reviews on this particular agent. That could be good, or bad.
The agent I worked with was communicative only in the way that they shared when documents were ready, or where we were in the process. But the realtor wasn't available for deep questions or clarity. The realtor was also very disorganized and distracted. They seemed to have a lot going on in their life and I was just one more thing. There were a few steps in the process that were exceptionally stressful due to lack of communication. Writing the offer was also more complicated than it should have been. I believe it was because the realtor was not in my corner. The assistant was also less than friendly. In an email communication, there was a false accusation against me that painted me in a bad light. This is unprofessional.
When calling the office with a couple of questions, the person who answered the phone sounded irritated that I was calling, sighing heavily and not offering any other information or expanding on answers. She was short and curt. Not friendly or helpful at all.
While I had a lot of questions along the way, perhaps my expectations of a professional, attentive, and communicative agent were too high. I thought that since I was making a huge purchase, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, and being alone and new at this, I would be able to have a professional who would spend some time explaining legal documents, providing me with rich information, and attending to my concerns in a reasonable time frame without judgement. I got very little of that. Because of this experience, I'm thinking of selling the home because there is a lot of negative feelings around the home now, but I surely will never buy another home again. The experience with this realtor left a bad taste in my mouth, and I would not recommend them, or this office, at all.
