Michelle Porter - Remember that name. Seriously. If you're new to the world of fillers/injectables (like I was) or if you're looking for someone who you can trust to "get it right", this is who you need to see. I say this after consulting with about 6 different providers ranging from med spas, dermatologists, and other well regarded local plastic surgery providers over the course of about a year before moving forward. ...I chose Michelle. My under-eye dark circles have always been pretty pronounced. As in, I've actually had people ask me if "everything is ok at home", pronounced. (Yes, really) On top of all that, after a couple of kids and almost 4 decades, my cheeks had basically deflated and my forehead (though without visible lines) was in a semi-permanent state of RBF/"angry mommy". Filler under the eyes and in the cheek area is the go-to treatment for my primary concern. I've seen enough before and afters to recognize the benefit of both filler and Botox, but...well, you know...needles to the face and all. Let me just say, I'm a difficult person. I'm a "read the fine print" type. I research everything to an insane degree. I not only know what the "less than 1%" risks are, but specifically what typically causes them, who is usually affected...blahblahblah. Soooo...a lil thing like "blindness" tends to grab the attention regardless of percentages. I mean, we're talking about putting needles in my face to begin with and now we're on purpose aiming for my eyeballs? Even if all goes "right", the whole point is to fundamentally change my face in a way that is somehow simultaneously better, but also not noticeable. That's a pretty fine line to trust a stranger with, right? Cue Michelle- I asked her the same questions I asked the others. To be fair, they all answered honestly as well, but almost as an aside. Michelle and I TALKED about it. We both knew the risks were minimal, but she never minimized them. She was confident in her talent and her skill, yet still walked through the "what if" scenarios with me should something not turn out as intended...to include me simply not liking the end result. In a nutshell, she takes her profession and her patient seriously without letting either outweigh the importance of the other. (Remember that fine line I mentioned?) Over the course of the last year, in baby steps, she has softened my "angry mommy"/RBF and lifted my eyebrows a bit with Botox, given me back my cheeks and a smidge more smile, and yes, even aimed needles at my eyeballs...all with amazing results. For me, that means incredibly subtle results that make me look like me, just better. And bonus: She is kind, patient, and funny. The effects of four pregnancies all by C-section every two years through out my twenties left me with a very undesirable shape. I had tried kick boxing, cycling, hiking, and general laps on the treadmill to try to maintain my weight and regain some semblance of my pre-baby shape. Along with healthy eating and the sheer craziness of my life with four young children I was able to get my weight within 10 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight each time and maintain that. For those of you good with math that means 10 extra pounds with each precious child. My weight wasn't the only issue it was also the extreme extra skin that was left over from the surgeries. It is almost four months since my upper eye lid surgery, cheek fat injections and hand fat injections. I have wanted these procedures but took my time and planned it all. My worries were in needing help while I recovered. Dr. Derby made me feel at ease from the beginning with my consultation. He approached my expectations with precise explanations. He let me know that my down time with swelling could be as much as a month. I appreciated knowing this and adjusted my schedule. I am busy with looking after my mom who doesn't drive and I am active in church functions. There were no surprises before or after surgery. The swelling to my face was a bit hard to settle with at first after surgery but upon each post op visit I was assured it would go down and improve. It did. I honestly attended a wake just two weeks after surgery and family members there said how great I looked. I now have eyelids that I can makeup and not have mascara all over. Why did I wait so long? We all know they are a highly rated surgical center as well as having the top surgeons, but what really sold me was their attention to everything I asked. I am one of those people that ask a million and one questions and they sat patiently with me and answered every single one. Sarasota Plastic Surgery has the best reputation in town, and my experience there only proved that very fact. Dr. Engel performed my surgery, and he is absolutely amazing! He is very informative and gave me numerous options from which to choose regarding what was best for me. He is extremely knowledgeable and educated me so I could make the best decision for my surgery. I recently had a breast lift with Dr. Brian Derby. Starting at the front door, the office is lovely and the staff is great. All very professional and no blue jeans. Nothing against jeans but not in this office. Dr. Derby sensed that I was anxious, stressed about other issues and delayed my surgery until I was in a better state of mind. The lovely young lady that takes care of scheduling and patient information was really great about it. Surgery went well and I recovered fine under their care. Nurses Lisa and Jamie were great support. Everything healed as it should. When I saw the befor and after photos I cried. I couldn't believe what this nice young man had done for me. I'm a widow in my mid sixties so this was just for me and oh what result. Dr, Derby couldn't be more kind, understanding, funny, comforting and talented. And totally adorable. This office is nothing short of top notch. Having never had any procedures done, I was expecting a salesman approach and I was very wrong. Dr Engel and his staff made me feel like family.
