Best Indian food you can get in Paris. I have tried almost all Indian restaurants and this is perhaps the best Indian food. I am a non-vegetarian and prefer to eat chicken when I go to a restaurant. But this vegetarian restaurant is an exception. We ordered plenty of food and everything was excellent. This is the cheapest food you can get anywhere in Paris. I am not sure how some people call this expensive. They are probably comparing with food prices in India. Otherwise the food is cheapest in Paris. Portions are very good. Chilli Paneer and Gobi 65 were mouth watering. Spring rolls were good. Idly, dosa, Paneer Biryani, vada were excellent. I would give 5 out of 5 for food. Surprisingly they serve drinks too. Drinks were the cheapest we found in Paris restaurants. Ambience is decent. 3 out of 5. Service is decent 3 out of 5. Keep in mind - It can get crazy at dinner. read more

Service is beyond rude. I had dinner with a friend yesterday evening. We had finished our dinner and were chatting (normal). The waiter spoke to us rudely and told us that we needed to leave twice - despite the fact that there were plenty of tables available, it was only 10:30pm - the restaurant closes at 11pm and there were still people eating. Unbelievably rude and unprofessional!! Next time, I will definitely avoid this crap restaurant and choose another restaurant in the area with more professional service! read more

Having tried saravanaa bhavan in NY, California, Texas and Muscat , I was expecting the Paris saravanaa bhavan not to match the madras quality but I was in for a surprise. The sambar vada was high class. We had paper masala dosa and onion uthappam and ended the meal with madras filter coffee. The aroma of the sambar and the accompanying chutneys complemented the dosas very well. Overall - don't miss this. read more

Excellent food. Felt like we were in chennai. Saravana Bhavan's taste is so consistent around the globe . Reccomend pretty much every thing- Idli, Pongal, Dosa is all (y). Mango lassi was spl though bit too sweet. read more

It merits high marks against other Indian restos in Paris but don't expect London or New York grade spiciness/tastiness. Play it safe and ask for your meal bien epicé. Very rich, tasty dishes. The naan is curiously expensive but I suppose it is everywhere in this city. You can get a decent Indian beer and French wine: not always the case in veggie Indian spots. While the service here is quite bad, this is one of the only Indian places I went to in Paris and contrary to my preconceptions, it was very good. Recommend going here if you're craving South Indian food. This place is always packed ! read more

We tried sambar Vadai, Uthapam, Rava Dosa, Parotta and South Indian Thali. Uthapam was a 9/10. Rava Dosa was 8.5/10. Parotta was 7/10 - rubbery. Thali 9/10. Sambar, chutney, kuruma, veg curries, curd were all excellent. Way better than any California Bay Area SB or other South Indian restaurants. Must be the ingredients and vegetables in Europe that gives it a taste close to food in Chennai. In the U.S. Veggies taste different in fact they lack any taste possible due to heavy use of pesticides and GMO. Price is consistent with Paris although it is only slightly more than in the U.S. Place is quite cramped - who cares about ambience as long as you get good food. Parisians and Indians throng the place which is located off Gare Du Nord station. read more

The place is not the fanciest but it'd be ok if the food was good. Unfortunately the flavors are ok but something weird is that the dishes come to you in literally under a minute and definitely feel and taste like they've been reheated. As you can read in my other reviews, I absolutely love the food at the Saravanaa Bhavan in London/Tooting - simply one of the best I ever tried. After visiting the S.B.-branch in Frankfurt and being highly disappointed (food was overly salty), I was yet full of expectations for their branch in Paris. The experience was pretty much the same like in Frankfurt: the service was unfriendly and unproffessionell, not to say arrogant, the food was pricey and again crazy salty. After leaving the restaurant my tongue and gum was actually hurting from all the salt, it was as if I drank a glass of seawater. And for the rest of the day, I was just really really thirsty. But also like in Frankfurt, beside being way too salty, the food had exactly the right consistency (which matters when it comes to crispy Dosas, Idlis and especially Vadas:-)) and perfect amount of spices. So if you don`t mind a mountain of salt this is your place! But why o why are they so immune to complains? Exactly like in Frankfurt this restaurant would serve the perfect south indian food if they would reduce their use of salt - in fact it would be so good, it might be possible to overlook the incapability of the waiters and the high prices. Again, as in Frankfurt, I made the mistake to complain about the amount of salt - he just started a discussion, that they would have sold a thousand of dosas and neverever somebody complained about the amount of salt and so on...I actually had to ask him to end this discussion about their food because it would just add up to ruin my lunch. I just never go back there and that`s it. Like so many others maybe. Would explain why always when I came by (to pay some other really good south indian restaurants near by a visit) only a few tables were occupied. read more

I must have picked the wrong dish...rice biriyani, as I was disappointed. I returned to the neighborhood to try again. I ended up next door at Chennai Cafe and had a Fantastic meal plus the staff were warm and spoke English. It's smaller and cozy. The dal butter fry was the best I ever had. The waiter brought me a little bowl of veggies when he saw that my dal had run out. How sweet is that? It's cheaper also than Bhavan...I paid 11€ for rice, dal and sparkling water. At Bhavan it was €15 for tea and biriyani and I didn't like either :-/ read more

I am a South Indian by birth and have had several meals here. The food here is authentic and tastes good if you like South Indian food. I think those people who complain about the food (e.g. Melissa K) simply don't like South Indian vegetarian food or at least don't like the thali. The various sauces only taste the "same" if you are looking at it from the point of view of a Westerner. For instance, to me, all wine tastes the same, because I'm not trained to distinguish them and I very rarely drink wine. The service varied from friendly to indifferent and rude. Totally my favorite Indian restaurant in Paris. Totally vegetarian, too, hurray! This is a bustling place packed with people who enjoy authentic South Indian food. (Most of the dishes are actually not as spicy-hot as they would be in India, however.) If you are accustomed to North Indian or Pakistani cuisine, be prepared for some new flavors, including coconut and tamarind. The dosai are excellent: big, thin, crispy and addictive. My favorite is onion rava dosa. I come here whenever I take a train to or from Gare du Nord. Yes, it's crowded, but clean and cheerful. The waiters are busy, but nice and patient, most speak several languages, and they will get to you as fast as they can. It's a great place for a cold and rainy Paris Sunday... many Indian families dine here on weekends. Ah, now I'm hungry just thinking of a dosa! read more

We had the south Indian sampler and the mattar panner. The sampler was copious, it would have been nice to get an explanation of each dish, but the restaurant was really busy, so that was out of the question. The matar paneer was probably the best I had ever tested. The only bad thing is that we ordered some paratha that we had to remind then to bring, but they readily complied. read more

Very shady location, makes you want to make the walk from the station to the restaurant during day light. It is around 5 mins walk from the gare de nord station. The food was quite good, we tried the veg thali and some dosas. The service was very patchy, and prices were reasonable. read more

The food here was delicious! Much better than Krishna Bhavan which was where I went to the day before. The place is average size unlike Krishna Bhavan which was tiny. The crowd wasn't very hectic but Krishna Bhavan was. Now, I do not want to be a criticizer on Krishna Bhavan because their food was pretty good it is just that I enjoyed this place better because they didn't give me the wrong food and my drink wasn't a plastic cup. But this restaurant was good and I would highly recommend it. read more

We went there on a Sunday night (Sept. 3 2017). The place was packed with clients. I ordered the South Indian Thali. The food was very tasty. I was happy with quantity of food served. The price was reasonable. NOTE- this thali came with only 1 poori and a lot of rice. I could not eat more than half of the rice served because I am not used to eating lot of rice. Besides the quantity of sambhar, rasam was not enough to wet all the rice that was served. My children ordered the North Indian Thali. They were happy with it. It came with a reasonable amount of rice and 2 chapatis. The manager should note a problem I had with the menus. The French and the English versions of the menu mention different amount of pooris/chapatis that come with the South Indian Thali. The waiter told me that it comes with only 1 poori. I was too hungry to argue with him. So I let it go. I would definitely eat here if I visit Paris again. This is the best Saravan Bhuvan I have dined in followed by the branches in Manhattan, NY and Sunnyvale, CA. The branch in Edison, NJ was the worst. read more
