Located on the Hungerinsel (Hunger Island) of the Limmatquai between Münsterbrücke and Quaibrücke, this fountain was unveiled in 2020 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Wasserversorgung Zürich (Water Supply). It is titled Sardona to indicate the origin of the river in the Alps which is also the origin of the stones used for the fountain.
The fountain design was chosen from a design competition that was won by stone carver Christian Aubry and the architect Timon Reichle.
Featuring a large pool with two spigots shooting water, it is quite pretty and the location along the Limmat certainly helps. The water is drinkable though I would suggest using the flowing water rather than the basin. Catch it early in the morning for a pretty sunrise picture.
