    Magic Carpet Ride

Recently we spent a week in Lake St. Louis to visit family for the holidays. I was overwhelmed with all of the chain restaurants available there, but Sauce on the Side was such a good find! Will have to keep this in rotation for our next visit. What they are known for are calzones served with, as the name tells you, sauce on the side. If you know me, you know that I Love SAUCE, so this is the restaurant for me! In an effort to eat more vegetables, since my diet mostly consisted of fast food for the past few days, I got the Magic Carpet Ride ($11). It came in a huge portion, that was enough to feed me for 2 meals and a side of the most delicious garlic butter I've ever tasted. Mmm...still drooling just thinking about the flavorful, gooey, sauce. My husband got the Meat Me in St. Louis ($10), which was loaded with CHEESE and meat. His only critique was that it was a tad cheese heavy, but I didn't see that stop him from devouring his entire calzone. To continue on my quest for vegetables, I also ordered the small Beets Me salad ($8). The salad was very flavorful; however very light on the beets. There were probably 5 small strips of beets in the beet salad, which was a tad disappointing because I love beets. The wine pours were also on the skimpy side. I feel like I took two sips and needed a refill on the wine, but maybe as a toddler mom, I expect larger wine portions than the average consumer. All in all, I would definitely recommend. Very clean atmosphere, friendly service, and huge calzones! See you next time St. Louis!

Always love the "cock a doodle noodle" but this time I wanted something different. Tried the Gonzo and it was amazing! The staff was super nice and helped me pick something new. You can never top the service I've gotten at ever sauce on the side location. It's also a comfortable place to chill in and enjoy your lunch. Honestly I'm surprised how empty it is. Lol. Big shout out to Brad for being so polite.

This place is always good! Love the special calzones. Highly recommend getting the s'mores calzone - it's a must get each time for me!

A pizza folded in half with dipping sauce..... that's called a calazone! This is a very tasty Calazone focused restaurant. Don't forget a salad! They are also excellent here!

If I could give more stars I would. Ryan the manager went above and beyond. He was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered four calzones to be delivered and he arrived before the stated time. This is our new favorite place to eat!

Small Italian salad with roasted chicken (added)

First time diners at Sauce on the Side today for lunch. My small Italian salad with roasted chicken (an add-on) was close to ten bucks. The Meat Me in St. Louie calzone my husband ordered was about the same. A canned Schlafly Pale Ale and a glass of wine rounded out our meals. Bottom line: about thirty bucks plus tax. Warehouse-style flooring so nothing fancy there. Menu on the wall. Order at the counter. We received our drinks at the counter and our food order was brought to our table. I was impressed with the cloth napkins, wine served in a stemmed wine glass (tastes SO much better than when served in a plastic cup!) and real service ware - no plastic. Tasty food, quick service and friendly/courteous staff....what's not to like? We'll be back.

I enjoy a good salad, and there are many to choose from here. Calzones are generally too bread heavy, but Sauce on the side does it well.

We ordered the Meat me in St Louis calzone was delicious. It was large enough that we split it & it was plenty. Nice staff, clean place.

We ordered the chicken bites, bruschetta flatbread, and a chicken pomodoro lunch special with the gnocchi in white sauce that comes with a salad. You also get fresh bread with the meal. We received our drinks and the salad promptly. Unfortunately the salad was drenched in dressing and seemed as if it was premade so the lettuce was soggy with no crunch. I made this complaint to our waitress and she just took the salad and left. No apology, no offer to remake just took it and left. Considering the salad is a part of the meal which is why I chose the lunch meal this was disappointing both quality and service wise. The fresh bread tasted great with their balsamic and olive oil! We received our meals a little while later. The chicken bites and chicken pomodoro were good! Unfortunately the bruschetta was a bit burnt. Towards the end of our meal it seemed our waitress disappeared. No offered refills on drink, no boxes offered, no check. We waited for over 15 minutes until we finally got hold of another staff member to help us. Overall with the disappointing quality and service I don't think I'd return.

The dough was made fresh as I watched the gentleman toss it. The thickness of the crust is not too thin or too thick it's right in the middle with a crispy bottom and stuff on the top. You could tell the sausage was homemade and not store bought. It had a slight char to the crust similar to brick oven pizza and the sauce had great flavor. My only complaint was that my oven at home did not properly reheat the 3 slices I took home the same way as their oven it gave it a "burnt like" taste so I had to toss it out.
