Savannah's Candy Kitchen is heralded as a tourist destination in Savannah, Georgia, a sweet shop so magnificent it's billed as a can't-miss. And this particular offshoot in Atlanta's international airport would seem to be the ultimate stop to satisfy one's sweet tooth while passing through Terminal B. The bad news is that the original Savannah's Candy Kitchen is shockingly underwhelming, with pretty mediocre sweets and chocolates. Even pralines, something in which that area of the United States specializes, aren't very inspiring. It's more of a tourist trap. The good news is that this airport Candy Kitchen is actually better than the original by some bizarre twist of fate. In fact, it's actually one of the better dessert stops in any U.S. airport. And while we gave it three stars, it's a far cry from the original that earned a solid one-star review from our family. Our flights routed through Atlanta, and during the layover on out outbound flight we discovered the Savannah Candy Shop in the B terminal. We visited and enjoyed dark chocolate and raspberry truffles... we limited ourselves to only two apiece, and we can confirm that they are so good the truffles did not even make it to the jetway; we enjoyed them before boarding, improving our already happy vacation mood. Some times you give chocolates as a gift; other times a small pre-flight snack, other times a larger order for yourself... you can have all three here in the Atlanta terminal B. Nice candy shop inside the Atlanta airport. I tried a caramel pecan apple, which was good, but the inside could have been fresher. I still enjoyed it, but it didn't taste crunchy or fresh. The marshmallow was delicious! Overall, the customer service was excellent, but it does get busy. read more

I visited Savannah's Candy Kitchen in Hatfield international airport and had a very disappointing experience. As a 78-year-old Black woman, I felt completely ignored by one of the Black employees working there. I stood waiting without acknowledgment, no greeting, no eye contact--nothing. However, when two white women walked in, the same employee immediately changed her demeanor, greeted them warmly, and offered assistance right away. The contrast in treatment was very noticeable and disheartening. No customer should feel invisible or dismissed, especially in a place that depends on hospitality. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures that all customers are treated with equal respect and courtesy. I just walked out and didn't even buy anything. read more

Some of the worst customer service I experienced during my layover. The cashier Laquisha did not greet my daughter or myself. Once we picked out our items and placed them on the counter she still said nothing! This particular store in concourse A at the Atlanta airport is very nicely organized and presented...the sweets are mostly individually wrapped for easy grab-and-go. The prices are high ! The single Oreo cups will take you back $7 and the candied apples are $12. In 1990, with the original Strickland family recipes, Stan the Candy Man opened the first store named Savannah's Candy Kitchen. On the east end of River Street, in Historic Savannah, Georgia you'll find a copper kettle hanging above a red awning. Inside there is a sense of heritage and love that goes into every hand-made candy. A stop by in the Atlanta airport for a few goodies for the boys to have on our flight. The selection looked to be good but upon closer inspection the bulk bins were fairly empty. Then the person behind the counter was not a kind person at all. It was as if she had been tortured and placed behind there to help people as punishment. When I ordered my chocolate I could feel the disdain coming off her in waves! I hope her day got better eventually. The cakes that I was in love with are no longer there. But I tried the gelato this time and it was good! I got the sea salted caramel flavour. It way exceeded my expectations for airport ice cream - it's actual quality gelato, not cheap stuff. It's silly expensive for the size, though, ~$6.5 for a small cup, which is definitely a result of the airport location. I thought it was a worthwhile expense for a treat in the airport, but definitely not a price I'd want to pay for this gelato in everyday life. read more

Homemade candy & airport terminals always signal overpriced; but I stopped at the Savannah's Candy Kitchen anyway because I wanted a sweet treat before my flight boarded. I also didn't want something that I could buy at my local airport or grocery store. I stopped by the Savanah's located in the middle of the A Terminal. They had a huge selection of gourmet chocolates, regular candy like Twizzlers & Hershey Kisses, and gourmet popcorn. I also noticed that they had a 50% off bin of candy. I figured this candy would probably be just as good as the regular priced items; so I bought a chocolate praline and a milk chocolate gopher at about $1.75 each. At first I tried the chocolate praline and it was good, as expected. Then I tried the milk chocolate gopher, and Wow! It was absolutely delicious! It was loaded full of sticky sweet pecan pieces and a big dollop of milk chocolate right in the center. I really can't imagine the full $3.49 priced one would be any better! Plus the woman at the checkout counter was very pleasant. If you are craving g a sweet snack; I think the 50% off shelves are the way to go! That way you can try a few different items and not spend an exorbitant amount of money. If you get the milk chocolate gopher you won't be disappointed. read more

So when I was passing an hour at this insanely large airport and came across Savanah's Candy Kitchen, I knew I needed to get a little bit of Atlanta candy to get me through my next flight. This little shop was pretty busy but once I got to the window I knew exactly what I needed to get. I ordered some rocky road covered marshmallows along with a chocolate covered pretzel and a white chocolate covered pretzel (I just had to try them both), and of course, the rice crispy treat with Oreos in it. Let me say, this place has some pretty solid candy if I do say so myself. Everything I ordered tasted good, and left me wishing I ordered some more. The original pralines are to die for. So good!!! They are made with brown sugar, white sugar, some sort of cream, and pecans. Maybe a few more ingredients, but omg, they are delicious. They sell all sorts of southern style sweets made with pecans and nuts. They also sell lots of penny candies that now cost more than a penny, but you know what I mean. Just be prepared to pay though, they cost about $6 per praline as they are weighed by the pound. I bought three and paid over $18. So I made that my dinner. LOL :) You can sometimes see them actually making the candy as you are running to your gate, as I was early one morning. I wanted to stop, but I could hear the gates closing... Where else in this entire airport can you get candy made on premises? Why is this young woman working there? She clearly hates working there. I love truffles so it was no surprise that I stopped here. It is located in the C terminal at the airport. There were a large selection and my favorite was the caramel truffles. I wished that I had gotten more of them. I also got the praline after trying a small sample. I really liked the sample so I bought a lot of it which I regretted. The reason that I regretted is because is you take a bite without the nut, it is just pure sugar. There is not enough nut to sugar ratio. So unless you want pure sugar, skip the praline. read more

I just purchased 3 caramel apples on the C Concourse of ATL. I purchase the apples most flights through ATL so i know the attendants will box the apples on request. All attendants at their shops have always boxed them as a service. Todays attendant was obviously too lazy saying they don't box the apples. She did know which boxes to include in the bag and the proper number of boxes needed to securely travel with the apples. The only other words out of her mouth was "we do 't take cash". Rude. As is true with most bakeries and confections places, there was a whopping total of 2 sugar free options - both stuck into the bottom of the case like little step children. I couldn't make up my mind about what I wanted - the pecan or the almond version, so I opted for a couple of pieces of each. I was a little bummed they wouldn't let me taste a bit like most other places do, but whatever. The moment I bit into my pecan chocolate I knew it was a big mistake - the candy was totally old and tasted a little funky. I tried other one too - same results. My wife ordered a 24 piece praline easter box on the website. At the time of ordering, we had requested a message card for the person that we were going to give it to. We were going to have it shipped to us and stick the message card from the shipping label on the box. However, when it arrived, our message was completely disregarded and nowhere on the shipping label. It was a very personal and spiritual message that we wanted her to have and paying upwards of $50.00, we should have received that gift recipient message. We did not. My wife called the next morning after receiving it. She spoke to someone by the name of Angelica at the 1-800 number who was EXTREMELY RUDE AND CONDESCENDING who advised that they do not send a message to the same person who is ordering. Why does this make NO SENSE ? Savannah's Candy Kitchen has NO RIGHT to make ASSUMPTIONS about ANY CUSTOMER'S living arrangements. They don't know if my 17 year old daughter lives with me, if they have the same first name as me, if we were giving this to her because she overcame a challenge that was difficult for her and we wanted to reward her for stepping out and doing it. They had NO RIGHT to ASSUME ANTHING, We requested a gift message for our recipient WITH OUR ORDER and SHOULD have gotten it, because it was INCLUDED in our order. For them to make the decision NOT to send it not knowing anything about how this gift was going to be given or who it was going to be given to is quite presumptive. They had NO issue taking our money for the order and then ROBBING US of what we SHOUD HAVE received. If they were NOT going to send the gift recipient message on the shipping label, they had ALL THE CONTACT INFORMATION THEY NEEDED to let us know PRIOR to shipping so that we could cancel the order. We ordered this 3 WEEKS IN ADVANCE, so there are NO excuses as to why they could not call to confirm any information they needed. 3 words ---LAZY for not just reaching out via email or phone call to confirm or let us know that they could not do it AND GREED - for taking our money ANYWAY KNOWING full well that they were NOT going to send the gift message and SELFISH for not letting us know our options so that we could cancel. She asked what she could do to make it right. We requested what we thought was fair compensation for that message missing from our order. She outrightly refused. So---what exactly was the point of her asking ?? When we in turn asked what she thought was fair compensation, she only offered 10% off of our next order. If she thinks we're coming back here to order--- in turn--helping to fund her paycheck, she's sorely mistaken, especially since we have a River Street Sweets right here in Atlanta, Georgia that makes the same items with MUCH BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE and don't have to worry about an extra $ 20 shipping fee. We can just go and pick them up. That way, we can have our items AND with the money we save, pick up a card for our recipient as well having the ASSURANCE that our MESSAGE to our recipient will be sent with our gift without allowing Savannah's Candy Kitchen to make ASSUMPTIONS about our household and USING those assumptions to NOT send our gift message. Savannah's Candy Kitchen failed and horribly. What they did is not acceptable, they were non-apologetic about it and we won't be back. You can smell Savanah's from the gateway and I had to pop in, they let you sample any fudge or praline of your choosing. So many to choose from and they all are amazing flavors I just chose the traditional praline. The service at the airport is steady and quick and it's weighed by the pound, so 1 praline rang up at $8.50. The shop is just a little corner shop, but holds so many options! It is a little expensive but this is an airport so what do you expect? There are a ton a bulk options such as gummies, skittles, chocolates, etc. there is also a case with fresh chocolates. The staff was very kind and patient.
