Omg, my first Savannah bee company store in Savannah!! Always wanted to visit where it all started. Though this is not the one with the bee tour nor the first shop to ever open* This place is conveniently located along the river walk, bottom of the steps from the street. This place is the spot to go to meet your honey needs. It has a wide variety of flavors and styles. On our visit they had samples of every flavor available as well as two drinks to try. They also had some little snack samples. I was impressed! The lemon and the hot honey were my favorites so I bought them. The hot honey has a strong kick mixed with the sweetness of the honey. Delicious! They also have mead and tastings of that as well. It is a little bar area over by the register. Friendly and helpful staff. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. We did a mead tasting at the Savannah Bee Company. I love mead! The tasting menu changes depending on what they have (but I'm not sure how often it changes). Our server was friendly and energetic, explaining all the notes in each of the flavors. They were accommodating and let me swap out the banana one for a different flavor which I really appreciated. The tasting was fun and if you do a full tasting, you end up getting to try 6 flavors. Half the ones we tried were more mead seltzer / beer. One of them had hops, and in general the alcohol percentage was closer to that of a beer. I've done other mead tastings that leaned more heavily into the wine and were therefore stronger and sweeter. This was good to try too, but definitely different than what I was expecting. read more

I've been to this store so many times while I was in the area. I tried out everything like for the skin, such as the lotions. I did the honey beer and honey wine tastings, and I really enjoyed learning about each one. The person behind the counter was very knowledgeable about each wine or beer. I was so impressed. All were on the sweet side, which was fine with me. I also tried samples of the different honeys such as lavender flavored. The person giving out the spreads and the liquid version knew everything. Lots of samples of all of the honeys, their honeycomb and meade. We tried a couple of honeys and some honeycomb. Staff was friendly and nicely explained all of the different options that I asked about. We ended up picking up a couple of small bottles. Would have tried the meade, but we flew in and it would have been difficult to take back home. One thing that was disappointing was that I later saw the same size and brand bottles of honey at other stores, where at one point it was much less expensive than it was at the Savannah Bee Company. I love this store and every time I visit I always wish I visited more. They have the coolest honey products and even provide Mead tasting for a small fee. We have one in Atlanta but it was pretty cool to visit the location by the river walk in Savannah. The service was great, store was clean and organized, masks were required, they had honey infused hand sanitizer for customers, and the young lady leading our Mead tasting was super personable and knowledgeable. There are also all kinds of creams and salves that are honey based for health and beauty needs. There is also a tasting bar where various types of mead can be sampled and bought. Mead is like a beer made by fermenting honey with water and adding various fruits, spices, grains, or hops for different tastes. There were also food samples that they provided. Calling all "Honey Lovers". This is the Bee Spot to be. They have a large selection of all sorts of honey products which are nicely priced. There is a glow about this store that just attracts so many people. The store was packed and the product was just flying off the shelf's. We bought a nice gift box of a variety of honey and can't wait to use them at home. Also there are multiple stations for sample all the honey products the store has to offer, and there are a lot. Customer service was on point and very informative during the whole process of finding the right product for us. The store had many displays that were very organized. 10/26/2018- One of the things I wanted to do on my bday trip to Savannah was the Honey and Mead tasting at Savannah Bee Company. If honey is your thing or even if it isn't, you must come in to this specialty honey store. The honey tasting is set up on one side of the store. We started with their Whipped Honey; it came it different flavors like chocolate, cinnamon and lemon. The texture is rich that you could just put it on a spoon and eat it as a snack. You could also spread it on top of a baked good, which is the suggestion we got from the lady behind the counter. We also tried their Specialty Honey such as Tupelo, Lavender, Black Sage and Rosemery. The coolest thing was their Acacia Raw Honeycomb. They cut it in pieces to try with green apples and white cheese. We also tried their Honey Shortbread cookies. These little bites just melt in your mouth. Aside from the honey, they are have an array of honey and beeswax based products for your skin, lips and hair. I loved the Organic Beeswax Salve. As soon as I put it on my cuticles, I knew I had to have it. I also tried their Lemongrass Spearmint Honey Body Lotion. It is so hydrating and has a nice light fragrance. Unfortunately, they were out of the smaller tube. The good news is that you can order online. And I will because this is the best lotion I've tried on my dry hands. Even after you wash your hands, you can feel the wax coating your skin. I also bought the moisturizing lip balm in Mint Julep. Now, to the Mead Tasting. It is $10 for six 1oz. pours. My favorite was the 1st one I tried, Peach and Love from St. Ambrose Meadery. To me it tasted like a Peach Bellini. Light and refreshing. We ended up buying a bottle ($15.99) and enjoying it in the evening. We tried a hoppy mead from Boulder, Colorado, a chocolate mead and even a bananas fosters mead. Savannah Bee is a Savannah staple that you must visit, and then you must bring all your out of town visitors in as well! This was my first time stopping at the River Street location, when I brought an out of town friend in. She's a honey lover, specifically of all things lavender. The tasting station is a must - there are many unique flavors like tupelo and sourwood, and the employees are more than ready and willing to answer any and all questions. This location also had a kids corner! My toddler was able to color and stay busy while my friend took in all the store has to offer. If you have time and interest, definitely do the mead tasting! I can guarantee you'll walk out with something that made you smile. read more

As a big fan of honey (and mead!) I had this spot on my list of places to visit while in Savannah. I was lucky enough to come across this particular location while strolling the riverwalk and was pleasantly surprised to see that they were dog-friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the free honey samples and opted to purchase the rosemary honey (which has a subtle savory flavor that blends nicely with the sweetness), along with the extra indulgent winter white whipped honey (which I look forward to using for baking) and lemon whipped honey (which would be perfect for toast or waffles). When I moved on to the mead flight tasting, I was slightly disappointed to see that the meads were not made by Savannah Bee Company and in fact weren't even from Savannah. Though I didn't fall in love with most of the samples, as I tend to prefer uncarbonated mead, I did take home a bottle of Bananas Foster Forever, which I very much look forward to popping open for a boozy brunch with friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the tasting experiences and my overall visit to this location thanks to the knowledgeable and friendly staff, who even shared a few treats with our fur baby! read more

In case you get lost like me, SBC is on river street just under the bridge. I have a great time here! First -- the staff is amazing. I tasted lots of honey at the honey bar & learned about the girl who's home from school for the summer. Then I took a mead class and learned about the savanah native and great places to visit on a solo self guided haunted tour. The shop itself is pretty big! There's a section for honey tasting and one for mead tasting. I learned SO MUCH about both, you can tell the employees like their job & are super knowledgable! The honey tasting is free, and I think mead tasting was ~$10 with which you get ~5 tastings. I ended up coming back not too long after I left for some honey cookies and a few bottles of mead. read more

For $7 Edwin served us a selection of 5 kinds of mead (Game of Thrones style!!) with a really cool mini history lesson for each one. The tastings are generous and delicious! Edwin was so friendly and personable. What a gem of an experience! 3. All. The. Bee. Things. Literally, all the bee/honey things you can imagine. & I mean, you're in Savannah!, go a lil crazy. I picked up a couple of lip balms, salves, a key chain, some whipped honey, a cool glass cup, and a nice big chunk of honey comb for about $50. 4. All the free samples!!! Two long rows of pumps of honey to choose from with these cool little biodegradable spoons to use for sampling. They had a neat little set up where you could sample the honeycomb with sliced Grannysmith apples! Not to mention, from what I saw, you could sample every beauty product to boot! Honey heaven! Must stop in for some mead!!! Prior to visiting Savannah Bee Company, I had no idea what mead was. I imagined it to be something the Vikings drank in big mugs. Totally wrong. It's actually very good and has delicate flavors. Even some bubbly! The mead tasting is only $7 and you get a sampling of 5 different options. Completely worth it! We tried the Waggle, Nectar of the Hops, Razzmatazz, a ginger based one and one more I can't remember. Our bartender was very nice and knowledgeable. There were some champagne tastes, tonic water tastes, and of course honey tastes but each one was unique. On the other side of the store on River Street is lotions, candles, beeswax salve, shampoo conditioner, lip balm... You name it, they probably have it. Even throat sprays and heel balms. Everything has either honey or beeswax in it. There's also a whole section of local honey. You can try all the different flavors and there's whipped honey too. My favorite was raw lavender honey. I'm giving Savannah Bee Company (SBC) five stars because I think it does a five-star job at what it aims to do. While I'm not a "honey" person, I think that SBC does a great job at what they aim to do, which seems to be to sell high quality local honey and related products. I've never been to a store solely dedicated to hive and honey products like SBC, which leads me to believe they are the premium name in this business, at least in Georgia. Upon walking into one of their stores (there are several stores or collaborative deals around the Savannah area) it is quite apparent they are aiming for a quality perception of their products. And this is certainly the case--their store was clean, organized, had a neat and somewhat "natural" feeling interior design. Their honeys seem to be of top quality -- they have samples of many different honeys with natural flavors. They also have whole honeycomb that you can break apart yourself--it doesn't get more natural than that! Note, though, that when you go here, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for bargain honey to go on your biscuit in the morning, then you should probably look at your local grocer. If you're really into honey, or want to step up your honey game, though, this is the place to be. I think at the very least it is worth the visit because they have all kinds of free samples so you can see what real, natural, quality honey tastes like and if you want to take it to another level. Maybe its just a tourist attraction and I shouldn't have expected anything more at noon on a Sunday after what was probably a big weekend (St. Patrick's day weekend), but it was really disappointing since every time I come to Savannah I want to come here and then promptly forget all about it until I'm back in Atlanta. There wasn't anything in this flagship store that I couldn't buy at any place where they sell Savannah Bee Company products. Not to give this place a bad go about, because before coming to this location, we went to the one in downtown also and there was absolutely no difference in the merchandise offered at this location than was at the downtown location, although the lady at the downtown location assured me the product lines were "sorta" different. There was a sign about the "mead" testing, but the lady stated that she couldn't start it for another hour since Savannah has a law about alcohol sales on Sunday, but her descriptions of the products they were going to taste didn't lead me to want to hang around for an hour. I ended up spending almost $50 on a Honey Citrus candle and a jar of whipped honey with lemon, which is almost good enough to eat straight out the jar but the sales lady mentioned also taste very good in tea and cocktails. The candle is made from soy and the same lady said that it can be used as a lotion once heated up. read more
