I had a very disappointing experience with SavATree. Their arborist, Michael Sombrio, came out to look at my property who came at wrong time. During the visit, I asked for a written quote and contract so I could review the proposed work before making a decision. The project was estimated somewhere between $4,500 and $13,500, so I don't think that's an unreasonable request. What bothered me most was that I asked three separate times for something in writing, and three times I was told no. I was told that I would not receive a written quote or contract unless I was ready to sign. Michael repeatedly talked about how busy he was, how much work he closes, and how he manages over $2 million a year in contracts. The whole conversation came across as arrogant and dismissive, as if providing a quote for review was beneath him. I've hired many contractors over the years, and I've never had someone refuse to provide a written proposal before asking for a signature. For a project worth thousands of dollars, I expect to be able to review the scope of work, pricing, and terms before committing. After the meeting, I spoke with two neighbors who had used SavATree. Both had dealt with the same person and confirmed a similar experience. They also told me they were unhappy with the work and would never use SavATree again because of damage done to their properties. In the end, I walked away. Any company that refuses to provide a written quote and contract for review before asking for a signature is not a company I can trust. Fortunately, I saw the warning signs early enough to avoid making an expensive mistake. read more

I have a large Norwegian Maple in my yard that developed a crack. It's the only tree in my yard and other than the crack, there were no other signs of issues. I had a nice gentleman out to look at it and told me it needs to come down and there was no saving it. He told me that the tree's root system was choking itself, that a large branch was insecurely attached to the tree and wouldn't take much to come down. It was very knowledgeable stuff. He quoted me between $3,000 - $4,000 and told me if I didn't cut it down in the year that the price would go up - that I could look at spending $5,000 in a year or two with rising costs. This was heartbreaking news. I had been laid off from work so I didn't have the money to spend then so I'd have to wait. I've spent two years stressed out that my tree was going to fall on my house or garage. This year, I did some shopping around for the tree removal and not one company was over $2,500. Out of the 6 companies including SavATree, only one told me my tree did not need to be removed, that it could use some fertilization to help the healing process of the crack and that my Norwegian Maple was not choking itself, that the tree was a completely normal Norwegian Maple and the things that SavATree pointed out to me was just blowing smoke. This woman showed me the healing that the tree was doing, and then showed me other parts of the tree where it had sealed itself previously. So, instead of spending a couple thousand dollars I spent a couple hundred for fertilization and will do some other maintenance to ensure the tree is healthy and will stand for a long time! But seriously, out of everyone the highest quote was $2,500 versus $3,000+. read more

This company is insanely expensive. My displeasure with Savatree is 100% my fault. I did not read the proposal thoroughly and ended up spending $925 for a 3 man crew who pruned 3 trees in approximately 15 minutes! What a rip off. I am so disgusted with myself. read more

We used SavATree several times while we lived in western Wisconsin and were very satisfied with their work and the help Mike Anderson provided. We moved to a very wooded home in the Stillwater area that needed a lot of tree work done so I called SavATree again and met Mike Sombrio, the arborist for this area. The guys spent two days removing trees that put the house at risk and trimming other trees. They did everything that we needed and their clean up was exceptional! I was told that they were 5-6 weeks out to remove three large trees from our yard. This was not a problem for me as it was not an emergency situation. However, they were able to fit me in the schedule in less than two weeks from getting the quote when a neighbor was having work done by them. We unfortunately had two dead ash trees we needed to have removed. SavATree responded quickly with an estimate. They gave us a date and time they would be here and showed up as promised. They worked quickly, efficiently and safely. They were careful not to cause damage to the lawn. When they were done, the clean up was done so well you wouldn't even have known they were here (except the dead, hazardous trees were gone). While this service was expensive, the number of vehicles and staff onsite really justified the cost. (They were not the most expensive estimate we received.) I chose SavATree because their initial proposal was the most affordable. After paying the deposit, I was informed the work would begin within a week. However, it wasn't started until three weeks later, and the company informed me it was due to permit issues. Although I was able to resolve the permit issue with the city quickly, the work still took over three months to complete. While the trees were cut down, the logs remained on my property for over two months and stump grinding, originally included in the estimate, was not completed until I requested it again. Throughout the project, I had to follow up frequently to receive updates and ensure all parts of the original agreement were fulfilled. While the work was eventually finished, potential customers should be aware of the need for proactive communication and clarification of expectations throughout the process. read more

SavATree was the best tree removal company to work with. They give fair pricing, but even better they have great customer service. We were ghosted by several tree removal companies and left for months trying to get our huge trees removed. SavAtree came in and removed 2 huge trees in under 3 hours. They did all clean up, left firewood in a stack and rolled back out. They even came on a cold, winter day! We have been very impressed and are glad we have a go to tree removal company. We had seven trees pruned and one removed. Colton came to our house and the two of us talked in detail about each tree and how to prune it, sometimes branch by branch. He gave me a good estimate of the total cost before he left my house, and that evening he emailed me a detailed invoice for the work I wanted done that described exactly which branches I wanted removed and how high the canopy should be for each tree. Conrad arrived at our house while the tree trimmers were setting up their equipment to discuss the job with them before they began. They did an amazing job of following his written and verbal instructions, and they did a great job of cleaning up afterward. As an added bonus, their work was very reasonably priced. We had a HUGE silver maple that had seen better days. The squirrels had made a condo and had devastated the integrity of the tree. We called SavATree and they came out and removed the tree. Today's final step was the stump grinding. What a crew!! It was mesmerizing watching the dance between the two cutters and the crane operator. Another ground worker was there to keep the logs, that we kept for firewood, separate, while cleaning up the debris during the entire process. Nearly 7 months after having our diseased elm removed, 2 new bur oaks came to live in our yard, & there was much rejoicing! We (my neighbor & I) worked with Mark Schartau to select the trees. He spent a lot of time with us, discussing the various options that we had-somewhat limited because of the diseases that had affected our trees-dutch elm for me, verticillium for her. We traveled out to the nursery in Wisconsin to look at the different varieties when we saw them-2 bur oaks for me, 1 swamp oak for her. These folks specialize in big trees. Because oaks are slow growing, we wanted to start big. The trees we got are the biggest they'll warranty. They are 20-24' tall, & 6-7 inches tall, & about 7" a foot up from the base. They are delivered & planted with a 90" tree spade (BIG). But it is done with surgical precision. All of the access problems that existed for tree removal came into play for planting of the new trees but there were no surprises. They spent a lot of time with us discussing how to care for our new trees. It amazed me how efficiently my back yard was transformed. I thought the cost was very reasonable-too low, really. I'd been planning on getting a single tree, but after pricing was discussed I decided to get 2. Highly recommended. read more

These guys are careful, thorough, personable, and reasonably priced. On two occasions, they've been working at my neighbor's place, and I've asked if they could slot me in for pesky little jobs that I hadn't gotten around to making an appointment for. Last year it was removing a tree that was in danger of falling across my driveway. They did the job quickly and at low cost. Then this morning I saw that they were out and asked if they could trim a couple of branches that were hitting my roof. It took about 10 minutes and they did it at no charge. Great service. The big strong guys trimmed 3 trees in no time. They moved the moveable gate and replaced it perfectly when they were done. The wood shredders came within an hour after the trimmers and the whole job was done in about 2 hours. I recommend St. Croix Tree Service. read more

Brock came out to give us a quote on some tree work. Very nice guy, but he never followed up with a quote. We called the office and spoke with his assistant who stated she would speak with Brock and have one sent out. We still didn't receive anything, and this was over a month ago. This summer our Association hired St. Croix Tree Service to clean up down trees around our neighborhood. During this clean-up effort St. Croix picked up a down tree off our property. They did not have permission to take the tree or to come on our property. The tree served many purposes and was a beloved portion of our property. We contacted them to explain the situation and they promised they would help us and make this right. However we have tried contacting them via email and phone calls over the past 6 weeks and have never received a call or a message. We are extremely disappointed in the company's lack of follow through, broken promises, etc. The purposes the tree they took served is now costing us $700+ to fix. read more

He is extremely responsive, pays close attention to details, and understands the importance on maintaining our natural environment. On at least 2 occasions we have had "urgent" needs relating to fallen trees on our driveway and back yard deck. He came out to inspect the situations and immediately found a crew to take care of it. I contracted them to install 23 trees on my property. They claim they sent their "best" installer. While he was able to install, the larger trees in my back row died out because the spade they used was too small for the trees moved. I ended up having a more competent company remove the dead trees and install new ones. There are better choices in W. WI than this company. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from St. Croix Tree Service/Save A Tree. They Appear to be a very inept and disorganized business. I contacted St. Croix Tree Service in June of this year to have them remove diseased trees from my yard. I received an estimate, which I mistakenly agreed to. I was told that my trees would be removed within three weeks. Nothing! Despite several telephone calls and promises from Kent, my trees had not been removed as of October. Finally, I wised up and contacted another tree service. For half the price --the job was professionally completed in a timely manner. Please remember there bare other games in town and don't let yourself be mistreated by this unreliable organization! read more

This company is terrible. They have no communication skills and they apparently don't even want business. It took 2 months for them to schedule a tree removal (they initially said 3 weeks). And when I say schedule I mean "Yeah we'll be there this weekend..." no day no time nothing. They never called us back for anything and we had to call them multiple times a day to get any response whatsoever. The city ended up cutting down the trees because they couldn't wait any longer. read more

Had stump removal scheduled for 8:30am. At 8:40 I called and they said they would find out where the crew was and call me back. At 9:00 I called and they said they couldn't get ahold of the salesman who is the point of contact. At 9:20 they called and said the salesman said the crew was stuck in traffic. At 9:45 they gave me the salesman's phone number and I called and he said they were supposed to be there and he would find out. At 10:10 I called but he didn't pick up.
