Savers' ($SVV) business model, while legally legitimate, is pretty hard to stomach at a customer-facing level. They purchase items in bulk from non-profits up front and pay them a lump sum. Your purchase does not go to charity whatsoever. In fact, following regulatory scrutiny over charitable messaging in the late 2010s, they actually removed any signage suggesting affiliation with the Epilepsy Foundation from stores...Tax avoidance aside, the inventory from an average person like the writer and reader of this review, is completely free. They just pay someone to: sort it, take a very cursory glance at eBay sales history (maybe even just listing price, which are two totally different things), print a price tag that's somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 that sale value, and throw it on a shelf. Fine. This is nothing new really. But, it has gotten pretty egregious over the years and it's hard to not be a little incensed knowing that this inventory is, by and large, gratis. This particular store is jam-packed with people. I had to park in a lot I didn't even know existed, behind the store, at 2PM on a Thursday. The din of hangers screeching against the racks, people walking around talking on their phones as if they were shorting stocks on used Bop-Its at a Bloomberg terminal, and people sitting at the back of the store eating apple slices out of baggies (this was a new one). It's an interesting, if not somewhat sad, vignette of the economic reality for many people right now. Seeing a beat up Nintendo Wii listed for $49.99 in the display case at the front is laughable. For a while now my favorite thing has been to just go to the front to smirk at what they deem high-value enough to put behind the glass. If you're someone who knows beyond the surface level brands, or whatever, you might have had some good luck in the past maybe snagging a Barbour shirt for a couple of bucks. Back then, only the household names would be marked up. Now, I'm pretty sure they look up almost anything. It's become pretty hard to find a good deal. Not to sound greedy, but that's kind of the whole conceit of thrifting, right? If it isn't the profiteering on their end making it difficult to find good deals, it's the torrent of people coming in with flipping in mind. I get it. Flipping is fun. But, half of that stuff you have in your cart is not going to sell. Honestly 80% of it won't and you'll end up hanging onto it out of stubbornness or just eventually returning it from whence it came. Board games are not worth selling, the weight and dimensions alone make the margins maybe a couple of dollars after paying for shipping and handling. Just because that celebrity cookbook sold once for $29.99 in June 2022 doesn't mean it will sell now. Despite that, likely because of TikTok, I see people combing the racks and loading up carts full of Jerry Maguire VHS tapes and old Bing Crosby Christmas records... Not an indictment of flippers, it's more of an indicator of the economy we're in. Where so many people are now willing to squat in the crowded aisles, scanning every book on the shelf hoping to find some obscure first printing of an electrical engineering textbook to list on ThriftBooks. Clearly if people are willing to do that all day, they must need the money, and there's no judgement on that. It's just a shame because it does really thin out the amount of interesting things on the shelves for people wanting to find something purely for their own enjoyment. I have been shopping at this savers for 5 years, and during these 5 years I have noticed a drastic change in the increase of pricing for clothing when they should be priced around $5. This one tank top I purchased a little a while ago costed it me not 5, not 8, but 13 DOLLARS FOR A TANK TOP. Although there are times where stuff is priced low, it is almost impossible to find clothing that is affordable for people who work minimum wage jobs. This has turned me and many others away from this store. Customer service is really nice, but the prices are horrible. I am just hoping that one day savers will go back to how they used to so it could be affordable for everyone. I hope you consider my review and rethink before pricing your income. I find it can be a lot of work picking over everything to find one usable item. Clothes prices are not too bad but they have become much more expensive.. Frequently the non cloths items can cost as much as the newer versions. Know their value before buying. Also this is a for profit outfit (not a Salvation Army). read more

They called over the intercom threatening to tow my car for parking in the back of the lot. No signs or markings said I shouldn't park there. I was within the lines of the spot and shopping for less than an hour. They said I was blocking a truck, but how am I supposed to know that part of the parking lot is off-limits if there isn't any signage? I used to be able to find some really awesome pieces here for a couple bucks, but in the past couple years it has been completely overrun by resellers and the prices have skyrocketed. there's always so many people and resellers that the parking is near impossible and there's never anything remotely nice left since it has been picked over thousands of times by people who will charge you four times the price on Facebook marketplace. there's so much coming in out of the donation center as well that it all gets even dirtier in the process- but it's almost all trash or furniture. They no longer even bother to remove large, messy stains, hair, grime, or anything else from their clothes, so your hands always feel sticky and need multiple pumps of hand sanitizer afterwards. A pair of unbranded eggings that you would think had been picked up from the side of the road are $11. they now LOCK UP SOME PURSES bc they want to charge u $50 for a vera bradley bag they got for free. this is a FOR PROFIT company, that money isn't benefiting anyone but the top, who are scalping people who can't afford retail. and resellers have made a career out of using working hours to take away any nice things that were left for people who wouldn't be able to afford them new, leaving nothing but trash by the time most people are out of work. the best luck you'll have is the houseware. I Found a Lucite cat that was signed and goes for $200 plus dollars. Love the art work. The baggies on the wall always have great items if you take the time to look. Thrifting has become something that everyone, of every financial level is doing, not just those who cannot afford new, or of a limited income. It's fun to find that treasure for a bargain! Though Savers was always a haven for people to buy relatively good quality clothes, toys, etc., when new is out of reach--the popularity has driven pricing beyond actual "thrift" pricing--for everything non-boutique and designer. One can go on GAP's website and buy a new T-shirt for just a dollar or two more than what I have seen at Savers. Unstained, unworn, brand new. This stands for many brands and items at Savers. Common kitchen wares are way over-priced, with no reasoning behind such huge jumps for used glassware, a coffee mug or a bake pan--again, one could go up the street to Walmart and buy a mug for $3.99, new. It is this drive for profit that has ruined Savers, and what the objective of what it is presented to the public. Perhaps they give a small pittance to epilepsy, though the majority of profit lines the pockets of those at the top. It is completely different than it was just 5 years ago. "The hunt" isn't as fun, that is for sure. Yes, Covid has changed the work force forever here, though the people you hire need to be held responsible for their own behavior--and who is manning the store with that? (In California, everywhere I visited just recently, from the gas station to pick up groceries, or ask directions--people were amazingly friendly, calm and helpful-no honking, no rudeness--anywhere!) I used to be loyal Savers person, just for fun...especially for holiday. I do not go, as I find the experience, the look of some of the areas/selection disheartening. $7.99 $7.99 $7.99 was the most common price for all items. Girls shirts? 7.99. Shorts 7.99. I had four items for my twelve year old and realized I was paying almost $40 for 4 USED things. Nope. Don't even bother going here. Five below, tj maxx and Marshall's are all across the street. You can get BRAND NEW clothes for 4.99-7.99 from these stores. Why pay twice as much for USED? Crazy person with the price maker thinks they're tagging a sale on brand new clothes. These clothes are USED. No used kids shirt should be over 3.99. They're twice as expensive as they should be that's why they're over run with stuff. It doesn't move. Plenty of people in there but no ones checking out...because it's priced bad. As soon as I was done posting this review I had an ad on my phone for kids clothes at the children's place. I just checked out with 9 items in my cart for under $45 because they were having a clearance and everything was between 3.29 and 5.99. Brand new. There's no reason to shop at savers. read more

Really big selection and a lot of variety. Some items are well priced and some over retail value. I've been coming here regularly for a year now and prices have only skyrocketed from averaging $3-5 to $8-13. It's hard to find something in good condition under $8 these days. They especially upcharge on professional clothes, which is quite sad because I remember how if felt to not have anything to wear to an interview that could better my life. One of the cashiers was so incredibly rude, but I have not seen her in a month or two so that problem may be rectified. You can still find a good deal if you search, and I'm still there weekly, but other smaller thrift stores that average $8-10 for anything and everything are a better bet than this. read more

Now I remember why I stopped coming here as often as I use to, the prices are too high. However, the place is very clean and organized. Everything is organized by size, color and item so it is much easier for me to flip though the petite dress pants in comparison to other places that do not size at all. Has really good selections overall. Never had an unpleasant experience. If there's anything to criticize it's regards thrifting, not the store. Like my bf got allergies from a sweater there and I've had some clothing I got be very tacky and bad fabric BUT it was the cheapest ever so those are common errors we as customers made so the store itself had no fault. I love thrifting, and for the most part find some good deals at this Savers! I went in yesterday, looking for some short sleeve women's tees (for an upcoming trip) and was told that they don't have them out this time of year as they are "seasonal." I can understand that, but they did have a ton of short sleeve tees out in the men's section - are they only seasonal for women? I was just confused, as it seemed odd to have them for men but not women! (Also agree with posters who note that the prices have gone up a lot recently - it's harder to find a bargain than it used to be.) read more

I went to this savers on a Thursday night and it definitely was not packed which was nice. The staff was lovely, Ruth was my cashier and we had a nice conversation and shared kitten pictures. I came back the next evening because I forgot to buy something, and Todd, the manager, (I believe), was very helpful. My cashier that night was Francheliz and, per the pattern, she was also very friendly and we made nice conversation. I did find some nice things, though the clothing pickings were slim. They had put away any summer/spring clothes like shorts and tshirts/tank tops. read more

Extremely Rude Staff! I have donated 3 times here with a total of 50 pounds of clothes and shoes, including like new high-quality down coats and brand new UGG boots. Everytime I came here, none of the staff who took my donated clothes expressed any gratitude, not even a smile... They literally make you feel horrible by donating to them because they're probably thinking "Oh I got more work to do now", instead of "Oh more free clothes=more revenue for us".. I went to Savers in Framingham around 3:00 this afternoon. As I walked by the donation area I noticed two full cases of Science Diet canned cat food on the ground. I checked the expiration date of one of the cases and it was June 2019. I went inside the store and asked the manager named Josh if I could have the cat food as I'm affiliated with Guardian Angels Cat Rescue. I do fostering and trapping. I know that Savers does not sell pet food in any of their stores. Josh was kind enough to ask the general manager if I could have the cat food but the answer was no. The reason was because they throw out any food that is donated to them whether it's for humans or animals. This cat food could have fed several cats for several days. Please DO NOT donate any pet food to Savers. Management, if you read this, please tell the employees who accept donations to let donators know that Savers does not accept any pet food. Better yet, put a sign on the outside wall of every donation area that says "No food donations of any kind accepted". Yelpers, if you or anyone you know has in-date pet food to donate, there are several dog and cat shelters in the MetroWest area who would accept it in a heartbeat. read more

I've been going to this savers since March. I live in between this one and the West Roxbury location, but usually go to this one since Framingham has more shopping. The last few visits prices have risen astronomically. Most things are listed at full price and in some cases even higher. Shein clothes listed at double the website price. Small jars slightly bigger than a quarter listed at $2.99. Books mostly $3.99-4.99. Thrifting here used to be fun and affordable but you might as well go to TJ MAXX and buy something new for the money you'll spend. read more

I shop at savers stores multiple times a week. This is the second time in as many weeks that DVDs, CDs, and video games have been put on the shelf that are soaking wet. Wet as though they have been sitting in a pool of water. Not one or two items, but literally hundreds of them. So much so that there was water pooling on the actual shelves. How is this acceptable? Who is in charge of checking your items before they go out? How can anyone in good conscience put out soaked and damaged products? read more

Wow. Really surprised at this savers as I expected so much more especially at this specific location due to it being next to the natick collection and so many upper class towns. Not only was it like a terrible garage/basement sale with items I wouldn't even buy but these thoroughly used items were more than what you pay new in store! For instance for garden planters and pots, glassware etc. The place itself is like a dirty basement and you are taken back by the smell of mothballs when you walk in, I almost walked right back out. The bathroom is falling apart--literally the sinks are falling off the walls and there are old dirty towels on the floor. Saw a coat I liked... $49.99!! What the actual?! Keep in mind there's a Marshall's and TJ Maxx right across the street from here and they don't even price their clothing competitively with them. Savers is pre owmed stuff y'all- if you have issue with it-stop reading now. That being said, its a great place to spend an hour searching for good stuff. Ive found name brand items here (Lucky brand, Aeropostale, Abercrombie etc) for UNDER $10 and in mint condition -some with tags still on them. This location is cleaner than Danvers (which reminds me of a Salvation Army) and about the same as the Nashua location. But you have to go often and be willing to comb thru racks of clothing-some that was donated before washing I think -ew)Just hit their annual Memorial Day sale- 50% off most of the clothing- and spend $35 for $70 worth of items that would have easily been $300 in a retail mall.Yay me. read more

After reading the reviews I thought I would offer a suggestion to some of the reviewers who were less than satisfied. Keep in mind where you are shopping. It's Savers, not Nordstrom's. Some thoughts- -If you want filet mignon and a linen napkin, don't go to McDonald's. -One man's trash, is another man's treasure. -you gotta kiss a lot of frogs before you find the prince. -although a similar business model, it's NOT TJ Maxx. 95% of items are used. I wrote a bigger review on a different location that explains how they receive everything for free, but charge just under Walmart prices. There are colored tags based off of when it was racked from the back, and numbers on them that rate the Quality, when combined with the Type of item it is, generates a Price. At this place, I saw a lot of stains and crumbs on "high" quality items. I was looking for a jacket, since another Savers had them out despite being summer, but this store had no coats of any kind. I know they're out of season, but we're North and I know they're donated, so put them out. Stop throwing them in the garbage, because I know you do, I'm a former employee. Tiny store, too. Not my preferred Savers store. This location sits along Route 30 by Lev Kia in Framingham, and isn't comparable to either of the two other Savers I've been to and live close to. This location is rather small, and the parking lot is really like bumper cars (always busy, never enough spaces, and never enough space for two way access). The store didn't really have much selection and seemed to have not nearly as many treasures (good quality or prices) as of other Savers or Salvation Army locations. The books and DVD sections were the most disappointing, less than half of the other stores and really nothing great. Home section was average, yet very picked over, and the clothes section was also picked over. I guess I really shouldn't be annoyed because it is Savers (not Bloomingdale's), but I'll definitely be shopping at the other, better locations (W Roxbury and Norwood) in the future. 3 stars. read more

This place has really gone down hill they price the clothes by the mark for example polo=20 dollars Nautica=20 dollars American eagle=10-15 dollars etc. and if the clothes has been worn a lot and it's discolored if they see the mark and if it's an expensive one then they put it as 10-15 dollars. Unbelievable. The place smells better though so that's better than when the place smelt like fish. It's both good and bad here. Tons of stock, however I noticed the prices creeping steadily. For example, all little kids winter boots tagged $16.99, even with Walmart brand or heavily used. That's too much for thrift prices. The home goods section here is great, I've found plenty of decor and kitchenware. The back left corner is a messy jumbled pit. It was better as furniture. It's really the only option in Metrowest for large thrift stores, as Goodwill, Salvation Army and St. Vincent's are long gone. Don't bother... if the price is missing ... you can't buy it. Takes all the fun and thrill of the hunt away. The place always has a bad smell anyway... and by the way... they are a FOR PROFIT company that masks itself as a nonprofit "charity" because they donate some tiny minimum amount to random ever changing charities. Biggest get rich scheme for the owners EVER. Sell merchandise someone gives you. The owner or shareholders are making millions off this chain... off the backs of people who need to bargain hunt. Just use EBAY. Goods won't smell and you will have a larger selection. I went on a scavenger hunt. Found an amazing women's Calvin Klein jacket in the mens coats while shopping with my boyfriend. I was SO excited to have such a find in such a random place. When I got to the register, the clerk said the new policy is that it must go into the pool of clothing in the back that has not yet been priced... and the "pricers" would not return until the next day (when I would not be available). I spoke with the manager. He repeated, verbatim, the speech. I asked him if he could put my name on it so I could come back the next day. He refused and said he cannot. ZERO point in going there for a fun bargain if when you find your treasure... they won't let you buy it. I am done shopping there, on principal. I will stick with EBAY and Amazon for great, non-smelly deals. I suggest you save yourself the feeling of grossness, there, and do the same. PS: I forgot to mention...
